So between “N” and “P” then…makes sense.
Although really it should be under “D.”
Bond films are under “J” for James Bond
I twitched, I’ll admit it.
I’m not happy with it either, but I can’t find an alternative I like. Putting them at the beginning for “007” feels aesthetically off and “B” for Bond isn’t really any different than J.
That doesn’t make sense to me. If someone comes up to me and says they love James movies, I have no idea what they’re talking about.
So if you have Forrest Gump, you put it at ‘G’ for Gump, Forrest?
If the name of the film was James Bond, I’d file it under “J” too (if I filed alphabetically). Similarly, if they were all “James Bond and the…” a la Harry Potter. But it’s the name of a central character in a series of films that don’t have that character’s name in the film titles, so it’s lastname, firstname. Forrest Gump goes under “F”.
This goes back to my record store days. Jethro Tull and Bob Dylan are both fictional names. But Jethro Tull goes under “J” and Bob Dylan goes under “D” because Bob Dylan is a pseudonym for a particular person, whereas Jethro Tull is a name for the entire band.
You’re overthinking it. Like, a lot.
Sorry, I was paid for doing this some time ago. Not, you know, a lot… but paid nonetheless. The OCD sticks.
We were open til midnight. Some guy came in and spent a lot of time by our cassettes. We didn’t take much notice because cassettes were this weird pre-CD holdover without the hipster cred of the vinyl, off in a corner. By the time we went to check on him, we discovered that he had reorganized our cassette section by the color of the spine.
Oh yeah, and Courtney Love came in one time. That was awkward.
If I had enough movies and time, I’d rearrange my collection to make a gradient, take a picture, and then put it all back.
It was very pretty, and well-executed.
We had strong reason to believe drugs were involved, needless to say.
So how long did it take to put it all back?
It was a pretty small section. Maybe an hour or two, including the time spent just standing back and laughing about it.

Though Blu-ray.com sorts them under “007”, which I guess is more accurate to the sets I have.

Well it is pronounced ‘double O seven’ and not ‘double zero seven’, so there’s that. 😄
Used to try alphabetical but it slowly morphed into a random mess. I try to stick to just regular blu-ray’s with all my purchases nowadays.
I’m not sure how the movies are sorted - one of the butlers just gets them for me.
😉
Just kidding - we have maids for that sort of thing now.

Yeah, and you should see what he makes us wear!
My collection is arranged alphabetically with DVDs and BDs all mixed in together. The exceptions being we’ve got prequels before the film they precede and “universes” like Star Trek and Star Wars in chronological order. Also, the MCU is under A for Avengers which made sense when there were only five films but is downright barmy now that the squillion other movies, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Daredevil and everything else is there alongside it. Hmm.
Can’t decide whether to arrange my SW discs as TFA-RO-TLJ or TFA-TLJ-RO
Typically I arrange alphabetically and then once a series starts, put sequels immediately after chronologically. But it feels a little wrong to put RO between them since TLJ is a direct sequel to TFA.
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.
I keep my SW movies in timeline order, RO-OT-TFA-TLJ.

I like that approach. Though my despecialized are on a USB and my Blu-Ray boxset is in storage, so RO-TFA-TLJ seems less satisfying than your arrangement.
I would love to have BDs with cases and cover art of despecialized, but it just isn’t worth the trouble or expense.

I think I do it more or less by how much I like the movie. I only have like ten DVDs and three VHS tapes or so and they’re mostly just for show. Some of the DVDs I don’t even know why I own because I don’t particularly care for the movie on them.
Keep Circulating the Tapes.

Slipcovers: extraneous paper that wastes space, or important for the aesthetic?

VHS slipcovers are the best way to store movies.

Oh I keep those on
I just hate trying to take the stickers off them without damaging the cover.

I always get so pissed off when stores plaster stickers onto the covers.

Ditto. They look nice, square. Wish more catalogue titles had them.

I do too, but I do sometimes consider removing them just for space-saving reasons. It may not seem like much of a difference, but they do add up.

You would need a wide shelf for it to even let you fit one more movie… Especially considering most movies don’t have them.
On a related note, do you store your slip-covered TLJ Blu with the Rey- or Luke-emblazoned spine facing out? Or didn’t you notice or care?
I went with Luke.
