Snoke actually being tiny might have come off as unintentionally funny though.

And to those that say that part of the backlash against TLJ has nothing to do with racist/ misogynistic/hompophobic feelings in the SW community, you only have to see this one post on facebook and read the comments:

And that is just ONE post. I’m seeing shit like this all the time. It’s starting to flood the net now. My Youtube channel got spammed with this type of crap and its all over facebook. Comments galore about how Kennedy is pushing a female agenda and making all the males into pussys, pushing forced diversity just for the Asian market, that they didn’t need all this shit in the OT and the prequels did a proper job at showing what the races really are like, how Rey should have been a guy and it would have made her being so powerful believable because women are weaker than men, and it goes on, but there is so much that i would never repeat.

Yes, its fine that people don’t like this movie, but you cannot deny that a large section think they are on a crusade against anything that isn’t white powerful and male. It’s gotten a lot worse since a certain person was elected as now they think their beliefs are accepted. It just makes me sick what the fandom has become.

Spot on!

These idiots seem to have forgotten Luke was going to be a girl at one point. 😉

I don’t understand how these people can be into Star Wars, and spout such nonsense. It’s antithetical to what the OT was all about.

My original crazy theory after Episode 7 was that Snoke was actually a woman projecting some vision of a man, and that she was Rey’s mother (and Luke’s estranged wife). Now THAT would have been fun 😃

(later on it turned out one of the original ideas in early TFA planning was actually for Snoke to be a female so I felt sort of vindicated 😃)

Yes, to those kids he’s Santa Clause. I’ll agree with you on that. I wish I could still believe in Santa Clause…

Yeah it’s a real shame that when kids grow up they no longer believe in kindness, charity, and good will to all. They burn their false idols and never teach their own children about mythology to instil a sense of right on them.

Oh wait they don’t, and that was point of the movie.

Yeah it’s kinda sad. If Rey was Ray there would be no discussion. The same people ignore the OT Alliance leadership to cry about it in TLJ. It’s the same with those lunatics who said TFA was eroding the values of same race marriage or something. Ew.

Yeah, like that was the point I was making. Your response makes no sense. Believing in a myth is not the same as having sense of right. When I say, I wish I could believe in God and the afterlife, that doesn’t mean I have no sense of right and wrong, or no moral code. This should be pretty obvious. As such, it should be equally obvious, what I mean, when I say, I wish I could still believe in the legendary hero Luke Skywalker from ROTJ, rather than the terribly flawed, but human character RJ has turned him into.

Not to take away from your point or focus too much on pedantics. It’s simply a pet peeve of mine I see thrown out way too often. But I really, really, really wish we could knock out this misconception that Santa Claus has an “e” in it. I don’t know if it was the Tim Allen movie that did it (the title of that movie is a pun), or if it was widespread before that, but this has to stop! It has to stop, I say!!!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I stand corrected. Where I live we have Sinterklaas, and Santa Claus is called Kerstman, or Christmasman. 😃

Dre, did you ever get back to see a second showing of TLJ? (I skipped like 15 - 20 pages of this topic so i missed if that ever happened). I am just curious what your experience was like compared to the first viewing.

In ROTJ, I liked the Ewoks. Even remember playing with that Ewok village toy. But after the prequels came out, I learned that there were a sizable group of OT fans who hated the Ewoks. i.e. just there to sell toys, or were too cuddly or something. I can understand people not liking the Ewoks. I do hate the CGI with blinking eyes in the Blu-Rays though. Also wish the Ewoks battle scenes didn’t have that green screen look to them.

But at least the Ewoks weren’t nothing near like Jar Jar.

But I was wondering. Are there any here who hated the Ewoks, but love the Porgs?

I don’t really like the Porgs, and wished they weren’t in the movie. Or at least not the way they used the Porgs for comic relief.

Love is a strong word, but I’m fine with the Porgs. Unless I missed something, they weren’t in half of the movie’s running time, and they didn’t defeat an entire legion of the Emperor’s finest troops with sticks and rocks.

Yeah, I liked it better the second time. I could enjoy it more on it’s own terms. I’m a bit in two minds about it. I think I will allways prefer the story of the classic characters to end with ROTJ, having ushered in a long period of peace, and justice in the galaxy, but I can enjoy the less fairy tale like approach of the ST, even if I feel it doesn’t really tell a new story with the reprise of the Empire versus rebels scenario. I think it is time for an entirely new story set in a different era.

Just because a group has been dicking around for 1,000 generations doesn’t mean their view is the be all end all.

Yes, but that entire presumption is arrogance IMO. We’re speaking about a group who have maintained peace and justice for a 1,000 generations. If that’s dicking around, I think I have to come out of the closet.

"The Force is what gives the Jedi its power."
not “The Force is the Jedi’s power.”

As stated by one of those dicks.

Always missing the nuance. Just because the Jedi are good doesn’t mean the Jedi are always right. Just because the Jedi aren’t always right doesn’t mean the Jedi are always wrong.

When Luke says that saying the light belongs to the Jedi is vanity, he’s basically right, but he’s definitely up his own ass about it, butting in with his ideology when Rey is just trying to feel the force. It is a little arrogant of him, and it’s supposed to feel that way.

We shouldn’t blindly accept that the Jedi can do no wrong just because they’ve been around for 1,000 generations (especially when the PT shows they almost caused their own extinction). But just because we should have a critical eye with the Jedi doesn’t mean we should dismiss them outright, and the movie doesn’t do that.

“I will not be the last Jedi.” Don’t forget.

The force does not belong to the Jedi. It never has. The light does not belong to the Jedi, is never has and it never should. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t believe that the Jedi won’t fight for the light as long as they can.

I missed the nuance, because there was none in your OP, my friend. “1,000 generations of dicking around” is not a nuanced statement. Nuanced posts invite nuanced answers. Posts filled with hyperboles don’t.

Dicking around does not mean being dicks. At least I don’t use it that way. (to me it’s basically a synonym for “hanging,” surely I’m not the only one who uses it that way?) It wasn’t meant to be a hyperbolic statement.

I think that is a fairly decent take on it. It is probably safe to assume that most people will watch the OT trilogy together, and then the ST trilogy together, so i think we can keep your two minds happy 😃

I’m really just spitballing here, but I think maybe the problem people have with Luke’s actions in TLJ is that there has been this Superman-like mistique set up around him by our culture. People assumed (or inferred), because Return of the Jedi ended on a high note for him, that he essentially could or would become the ST’s Qui-Gon Jinn or Ben Kenobi.

It is because TLJ turned around and said “Nope. Actually, he’s had a severe crisis of faith. Whatever you wanted him to do, he’s having none of it.” And so it’s as if Superman is suddenly not for truth and justice (and the “American way”). He’s not what we expected. He’s Bizzaro-Luke.

Humanizing him in this way cuts people deep, I think, because of how we as a culture built him up as a sort of superhero in the 80’s. Whether or not someone read the EU novels.
