Blu-Ray and other HD box size STAR WARS covers — Page 42

Been working on this off and on for a few weeks, and I think it’s ready to share finally!

Here’s a complete set of simple Blu-Ray cases that should fit any version of the films. Minimalist backs - no features listings, taglines, or synopses. Running times for the OT are based on Despecialized (and the logo blocks include Harmy’s logo, so they’re obviously meant for Despecialized, but nothing else specifically states as such).

These are heavily inspired by phildesfr’s awesome covers, and even use some assets he graciously provided in his MEGA links, including his textless variation of the theatrical TFA poster and some of his logos. I did heavily customize his AOTC logo, and the ESB logo I used is literally the one on the poster itself since it ended up landing in the right spot.

As for other stuff, the TFA logo I used is based on Owain Wilson’s, the TLJ logo I used is lifted from one of Jim Titus’ designs, and the alternate TFA poster is by Grzegorz “Gabz” Domaradzki.

So here they are - I may have to edit this later because I’m just uploading the full-size versions to imgur and they might clutter things up (and imgur might fuck with some resizing, I dunno), and I’ve gotta get off to work right now. In case that happens, here’s album links:

“Theatrical logo” spines
"Saga logo" spines

Covers themselves, “theatrical logos” first:

The “saga logo” ones are the same except for the spines, so I’m going to just leave the album link up for that, but here’s the alternate version of ANH with the “saga” logo and ANH on the front logo:

Hope you like them, and if I’m stepping on anyone’s toes with these (especially phildesfr, since they’re basically modified versions of his covers), please let me know and I’ll take them down.

I really like the simplicity of these. Only thing I would change is adding a scroll or description of the movie on the back besides that. These are Great!

Thanks!

The whole point of these, though, is that simplicity/universality so you can really put whatever disc of that movie you want in the case, so the lack of any description on the back is intentional.

But if you (or anyone else) would like to add some description or special features or anything themselves, by all means! These are already tweaks to existing covers, I feel no ownership over them. If someone wants to use them as a starting point, go for it!

Oh, and by request I’ve made an alternate set for ANH where the front/back art is swapped. All three alternate versions can be found here.

I’m considering doing one more variation on ANH with the “theatrical logo” spine that says “A NEW HOPE” instead of “STAR WARS,” but I want to find a better ANH “official logo” than what I’ve come up with before I do that. If anyone has any suggestions for ANH logos that will work well on the front and spine, let me know. Same goes for any alternate logos, especially TFA, TLJ, ANH, Rogue One, and the prequels.

I can speak from the experience of learning to tweak aspects of sets posted on this site that adding text is one of the simpler alterations you can make to an existing design.

I think it’s kind of cool that he posted the designs without summaries so people can customize.

Nice work ChainsawAsh!

Thanks!

I toyed with adding some copy or the crawls or something myself, but I liked the simple look of them with nothing but the billing block and “legal” stuff at the bottom. I also almost added a UPC box, but eventually decided against that too.

I had an idea for a “faces” set for the OT (ANH would have Leia, Han for TESB, and Luke for ROTJ), but I don’t know how “relevant” it is anymore. A “face” cover could be either really good, or really bad. I’ve seen a lot of bad ones–specifically for animated movies–that didn’t make any sense.

Okay, whipped these up real quick - mods of my prequel covers for HAL9000’s edits (running times based on v4.2). If anyone wants modified covers with new titles for different edits, let me know and I’ll see what I can do (if you already have a title logo for me to use that’d be ideal). I figure either of the regular TFA covers I made would work for Restructured unless someone wants one that actually says “Restructured” on the case somewhere, or wants the FE logos and stuff on the back.

Album here. (“theatrical logo” spines only; the “saga” spines are ready to go if anyone wants them, I just haven’t saved them as JPEGs yet)

Okay, last one for a while probably - alternate TLJ with the Dolby Cinema poster on front. I don’t know who did the logo removal on the source I used, but it wasn’t me. It had a prequel-style “Episode VIII” logo on it that I cropped out.

Quality all those ChainsawAsh - personally I love the ‘boxier’ style logos - especially for the Prequels.

Nice one 😃

Relevant or not, I would love to see what you come up with!

Well if Disney give Legacy a stamp of approval then that could change everything so maybe someone could maybe make one

Maybe when we know if it’s a waste of time or not someone will. Or have any idea of what else might be included as extras on such a release.

Making of Star Wars…

A Documentry on the making of Legacy Edition…

Mike Verta commentary…

Maybe a new restoration of the original teaser from 77…

Maybe some of the casts commentary aswell

Another issue involves the photo for Han I want to use for TESB. The one I have is only available in a certain resolution. I can’t find it in better quality. Because my covers are very hi-res, the picture would look a bit fuzzy.

Well, if you want to make a cover for something you probably won’t ever get your hands on with a bunch of hypothetical special features, be my guest, but I don’t think you’re going to get anyone else to make it for you.

It’s still a good idea though

Jedi Master Skywalker, as ChainsawAsh says, if you wish to go off and make fantasy covers for your dream release, be our guest, we would love to see what you come up with.

Throughout this forum there are various examples of custom covers that people have made for their own projects with their own discs or ‘custom boxsets’ for gifts etc.

A number of people have also posted about their ideal ultimate boxset. Go wild!

From your posts, you seem to do lots of asking of other people and lots of fixation on Star Wars Legacy. May I suggest you open your eyes to other projects and perhaps try to contribute more and request less?

Here’s a textless version of that poster I made using the highest quality sources I could find:

So I am sharing a sneak peek at s current project. I will be doing the PT ST and Rogue One! This is still early on so there may definitely be some changes

I like it, nice and minimalist, though I’d suggest dropping “A New Hope,” since Despecialized uses the 1977 pre-ANH opening crawl.
