I don’t understand how the 2008 movie is higher than all the rest

Huh? That’s five sober Barney heads – much lower than what I have TESB, SW, & R1.

and how the Ewok movies are equal to ROTJ or TFA

ROTJ & TFA are technically well made, but they piss me off.

Lol.

More LOL than you can shake a stick at.

Alright so I’m going to be that guy. I’ve been watching the Star Wars films the past few days (as one does at a time like this) and you can I guess chalk it up to childhood nostalgia, but, in all honesty I enjoyed ROTS better than RO (neither fan edited, mind you). There is no doubt in my mind that ROTS is the worse film, and I still rank it that way, but I just find it in many ways more interesting and engaging than RO (even if its mistakes make me even more angry). That old thing about a strong reaction vs. an indifferent reaction I suppose.

Just makes me excited to get back to my ROTS edit when I get the chance.

It’s like I don’t even know you anymore.

Does not compute.

In fanedited form I definitely enjoy it more. It’s not better, even in fan edit form, but it engages me emotionally more.

I won’t go quite so far as to say I enjoy ROTS more, but Rogue One has definitely fallen a few rungs for me as well. Now that the newness has worn off, it feels like kind of a trifle, albeit one with some great visuals and fun set pieces. Different leads would probably be enough to save it for me, but as it is it has two of the dullest protagonists in the entire franchise. I certainly don’t dislike the movie, but I do think I consider it “minor Star Wars”.

so glad i have my own opinion of Rogue One to rely on and not you guy’s.

Okay, I will admit I was pretty bored through the first third of so of Rogue One, but I think the rest of the movie was pretty good. I guess I’m weird.

I thoroughly enjoyed R1 and wasn’t bored in the least. Sure, neither Jyn, Cassian, nor Saw were that great, the characters all around weren’t as “morally gray” as they were hyped up to be, and the ending contradicts the SW radio drama, but those are mere nits to be picked.

I really enjoyed R1 apart from a couple of minor issues after my first viewing at the cinemas and just watched it again for a second time the other night at home on the TV while trying to manually modulate the volume to a low but audible level so as not to wake my daughter up in the next room. Despite the less than ideal viewing and listening conditions I found myself enjoying R1 even more than I did the first time and look forward to viewing it again once I get a HD projector and proper Hi-Fi audio system.

I think the main characters could have been fleshed out a bit more but I still think it’s a great movie anyway, one that actually adds a lot more detail and depth to the OT SW universe (without being in your face) with a little more grounding and stylised realism. It’s great for a change that there are no Jedi around to conveniently save the day. I also didn’t mind that it broke away a bit from the usual SW format / formula with no crawl, using location cards, etc. It is afterall a “SW Story” rather than a SW movie so to speak, instead showing a story from a different perspective rather than the usual episodic saga movie.

I don’t get the criticism that we don’t know the characters very well. It’s a movie about a “ragtag band or rebels” that was put together over the course of a couple days. That’s partly the point.

ROTS is a better movie than R1 at every single level. R1 being more recent has better special effects and Edwards being a competent shooter the movie has a few well made shots. But that’s pretty much it. No story, no characters, no emotion, nothing (emptiness at its best). You’re not the first one I know to rank ROTS higher than R1 (in a few years from now people won’t really watch R1 anymore: it’s half nothing with small bits of EU and half a ROTJ remake with boring characters tha get stupid and repetitive death scenes… so really there is nothing interesting in R1 outside some “star wars porn” shots…).

I think the last 10 minutes of Rogue One (minus the last minute) are some of the most rewatchable Star Wars yet.

Yeah 'cause it’s fun but I guess it’s a strong issue that the audience is cheering at Vader slaughtering people… (I like the scene but it’s dumb in the context of this movie; aren’t we supposed to feel empathy for the rebels ?!?).

If you fail to see the story told in ROTS, you’re right to stay away from it 😃

So you’re not denying that ROTS has no characters or emotion? I call that progress.

ROTS is full of rot. That’s all it is and all it has to offer. It’s cinematic necrosis with zombies, revenants, and lichs for characters.

I seem to disagree with both sides here. in my view r1 is a better made film out the gate. But I don’t think Rots is “nothing but rot” either. It’s bloated and has problems, but in my opinion it can be “saved” in editing. And that doesn’t mean it can get anywhere close to the level of ANH or ESB, but good enough to enjoy watching.

Even in edit form R1 is probably a better film but I just find rots more enjoyable. Unedited though I would rather watch R1.

Strangely, I have no desire to watch either R1 or ROTS. I’ve only seen R1 once in theaters, and felt what many of you seem to think of it now. ROTS is just awful, I hate what it did to the original characters. So, I guess of the two I’d rather watch R1, since I’d rather suffer bored indifference than utter hate.

The audience is cheering at Vader slaughtering the Rebels? Really? I thought the scene was more of helplessness for the Rebels - despite knowing what was likely going to happen to them they carried on and did the best they could - to the last - to fight for what they believed in… and in the hope they could get those plans away…

Away with your logic and reasoning - there is no place for that in here 😉

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…
