They are back at again https://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Original-Trilogy-Despecialized-Edition-3-Blu-Ray-Set-SEALED-BRAND-NEW/162760838011?hash=item25e54d4b7b:g:FvoAAOSwIFtZ~TN1

No longer available - seems someone must have reported them.

Should be interesting to see how long it is before it re-appears back on ebay for sale again…

When I go to that link it’s still there but listed as “Sold”? 😕

.Val

Ah, gotcha. I thought it may may have been taken down as it the original link was a ‘relisting’ and there was no option to buy one at the time - and when I clicked on the ‘other sellers’ items’ there was no Despecialized Editions on sale (though sadly there is of as now)…

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

A Project Index for Star Wars Preservations (Harmy’s Despecialized & 4K77/80/83 etc) : A Project Index for Star Wars Fan Edits (adywan & Hal 9000 etc)

… and take your time to look around this site before posting - to get a feel for this place. Don’t just lazily make yet another thread asking for projects.

I just reported Mr Rosecroft’s listing to ebay.

It’s quite simple to do, just click on the “Report Item” link above the description.

Selling copied discs is one thing; selling download links for $20, that’s something else.

At this point, I’m surprised nvjc and Harmy haven’t just removed these entirely.

And what would this accomplish, exactly? Despecialized is widely available from many places, and this would just make it so that profiteering jerks would be the only game in town.

Well for one, it would make the community go full vigilante justice on these motherfuckers. Sure they might get twice the sales for a while, but for every sale there would be 2 people every day saying something to the effect of “It really kills me that these were free online for everybody until assholes like you started selling these.” You think the constant spam wouldn’t at least get under these people’s skin even a little? I think a large part of the reason there isn’t big community outrage is that people are in the mindset that those sets on ebay and elsewhere are small scale, and aren’t getting the sales they are.

This makes no sense.

NJVC did remove his mega links when it first started happening but later allowed myself to do a limited sharing run for consistently legit OT members and then Solkap later on to make them fully available again to anyone.

I’m not sure what changed his mind but I expect he eventually came to the conclusion that the wrong people already had copies of his work and therefore the only way to try and combat it was to make them as easily available as possible.

This is just my opinon, if you are create something in the fan edit/preservation community, somebody is always likely to take your work, put it on a disc - or now a download link - and then profit from it.

It’s been happening for many years - at conventions, market stalls, and for the past few years on ebay too.

It is not right, none of us like it - it’s bloody frustrating, and also a kick in the teeth for those that put so much hard work, time and love into their projects - yet there is no real way to effectively stop it (other than to carry on reporting it every time one pops up on there).

So we carry on reporting them, and spreading the word amongst our friends, colleagues, families and other Star Wars fans that these exist online for free.

For me, the ot.com is a little like Bespin in the Empire Strikes Back, we’re a small outfit that goes under the nose of the Empire re the releases that feature on here - we need to keep it that way (though no deals 😉)…

On that note, it doesn’t help when, well meaning but misguided individuals, promote the fan projects on another SW site, where, the response to these efforts has always been at best, tepid and members of that site, even go as far as expressing their unhappiness about this work being carried out without consent from Lucasfilm/Disney.

I’ve promoted Harmy’s work on other (non-SW) sites and told people how to get it. I’ve gotten many thank yous. I’m not sure what you’re talking about, frankly.

I think Jay may have been referring to those SW sites that, in the main, don’t particularly like us (this site) - or the work that takes place here.

Yeah, there’s a few places (cough Reddit cough) where if you even mention Harmy, Despecialized, fan edits, or OT.com, you basically get crucified for suggesting that anything other than the official Blu-Rays of Episodes I-VI should even exist.

Quote I saw the other day from someone replying to a comment meant to explain why fans like us dislike the SEs:

so their problem is that they’re not available in HD? why wouldn’t they want to watch them how they originally watched them? If that’s what the big deal is?

That’s honestly the mentality of the majority of SW fans. It’s incredibly frustrating.

Ah, well, anyone who wastes their time on either reddit or tfn really oughta know better.

I still don’t understand why those sorts of fans even care so long as they have their Blu Rays to watch. Nobody is suppressing their preferred version. If the shoe was on the other foot, would they go to the lengths we have? I kind of doubt it.

Hell, we’re preserving the 1997 SE and original theatrical TPM now.

The creepy cultish behavior of some fans troubles me. It’s like the originals are some heretical text to them.

Reddit generally attracts the worst people.

These people you’re talking about are probably folks that have never seen the original editions of the films, and have only seen the special editions their whole lives. Therefore, they’ve no reason to care about the preservation of the originals, and they might think that originals are worse than the special editions.

Or they’re George Lucas.

Here comes back the ridiculous notion that the originals weren’t in high definition in the theaters lmao

I didn’t know how dumb a person could be until the first time I got that comment
"He released the originals back in 2006 on DVD. They weren’t in HD back in the 70s, so by making them HD, Harmy is changing them!"

I don’t think I ever legitimately face palmed prior to that.

I’ve heard it a bunch. Mostly comment sections. Where do they think the extra detail came from?

Oh wait, I know that one…
Harmy made some rotoscoping on it.

Okay, that genuinely made me laugh out loud. 😂
