I can’t wait for the Christmas Special. However, I did see the costume of the female doctor, and it looks bad.

(a 2 minute trailer for the 2017 Christmas Special - so obviously contains footage - and may contain some mild spoilers)

If only it could be William Hartnell himself playing the role.

Is it just me does the 12th Doctor’s hair look a bit too long. It seems to have grown considerably since the end of the last Episode. Considering the event in this one take place right after the end of the last one, his hair length shouldn’t have changed much.

Don’t know what to say. I guess we had know it wasn’t exactly going look like a traditional Doctor costume because the new one is female. But I don’t know.

Since there’s a female The Doctor, why not a male The Rani?

So if the current Doctor is a woman, can The Rani be a man now? What about Romana?
Change it up a bit. TBH not even bothered by the news, just indifferent.

Traditional? The Doctor’s outfits through the 54 years have been one of the least consistent aspects (which is, I think, a great thing). Cartoonish, leather jacket, understated, fur coat, Victorian, hip - they’ve been all over the spectrum.

To me, Jodie’s outfit looks fantastic. She’s a very beautiful woman and they’ve struck a great balance between mysterious time traveler and feminine style. Those high-waisted pants with a peek of shin, the partially tied boots, the long coat, all of it looks perfect to me.

I don’t know, this costume seems more over the spectrum than usual.

I don’t like the peek of shin. Its un-TimeLordish/un-Doctorish.

I think I’ll give a whole episode a watch, maybe even a few additional episodes, before commenting that someone’s shin being seen is somehow un-TimeLordish - taken from a promo picture 😃

Like Anchorhead, I kind of like the varied, unpredictable and wide-ranging looks that the various Doctors have adorned over the years - aye, even that stick of celery 😉

Why do I have to wait? I know what the costume looks like from the promo pic. I’ve been watching Doctor Who since the early 80s. I think know what is and is not TimeLordish.

I’d be more concerned about those suspenders than a little shin. Unless she’s now a female Mork, in which case it’s cool.

Matt Smith wore suspenders when he was the Doctor. If anything, this costume is a smorgasburg of past Doctor costumes rather than anything uniquely its own. However, given how rarely Capaldi’s outfit ever looked like the Pertwee-esque costume shown in his initial promotional material, it’s safe to say that although this is the “official” outfit, it’s not the final one.

Coming from someone who has never seen or knows anything about doctor who, taken out of context this comment was hilarious and I don’t mean that in a malicious way.

Suspenders always look silly regardless.

Eh, costumes for the Doctor generally trend toward “silly.” I mean, look at Tom Baker’s mile-long scarf, Peter Davison’s decorative celery and cricket outfit, Colin Baker’s…everything, Sylvester McCoy’s umbrella and question mark sweater-vest, et cetera.

Granted, new series Doctors have been a bit less “silly” (unless you consider Matt Smith’s tweed, suspenders, and bow tie silly) outside of Capaldi’s frequent hoodie and frock coat combination, and even that was a bit understated compared to, say, Jon Pertwee’s frills and velvet.

Having said all that, I think Whittaker’s costume is a little bland for me, but there’s a big difference between promo pictures and seeing it in action - just look at how Capaldi’s costume(s) turned out during his run compared to the reveal promos.

No worries mate - I’m struggling to believe that someone’s shin being on show in a promo pic is being considered un-TimeLordish at all - or for that matter being talked about at all 😃

Did I say you have to wait? No.

You want to comment on her shin being ‘un-TimeLordish/un-Doctorish’^? Go right ahead.

Me? I’ll wait and watch a few episodes before passing comment or judging anything at all re the new Doctor - if that is okay with you, Warbler? (that’s a rhetorical question - so you don’t have to answer it).

^ - I can’t believe I’m responding about a shin being on show.

It looked the same as the promos(when he was actually wearing the costume seen in the promos).

Did the Doctor ever show shin in any of his clothes in any of his incarnations?

I hate shorts, they look immensely silly, and if the argument for a female Doctor is his character was never overtly masculine, it seems weird to suddenly be overtly feminine as these pants seem to be. Nonetheless it’s silly to argue about a fictional character’s pants, much less judge the entire show off of them.

That’s what I mean - he very rarely wore the “full” costume as seen in the promos. It’s entirely possible that Whittaker’s Doctor won’t wear the “full” costume all the time, either, and that her alternates might look better than her primary.

Yeah you’re right warb any inclination I ever had to watch this show is now gone. No shin no problem, that’s my motto.
