I wonder what the people who grew up with the PT as their Trilogy, will think of the ST, once it’s complete.

To be honest, I’m really not sure where I fall in terms of what I grew up with. I wasn’t even four years old when Revenge of the Sith came out, but was 14 when The Force Awakens was released. I suppose I “grew up” with The Clone Wars TV show.

Not enough people read the EU.

Unless you’re discussing a version of the film in which Vader didn’t have a castle and saying reasons why, within the film “Rogue One”, they made that change, you are off topic.

Well, the link I posted a few days ago mentions a version of Rogue One where the name card for Mustafar was in the film. Does that count?

So, something more concrete as to what was added to the final product rather than removed/changed, that scene was definitely part of the reshoots: http://collider.com/rogue-one-darth-vader-scene/

Speculation:

Given that the Vader scene at the end was part of the reshoots, maybe there was an earlier version of the ending which didn’t cause continuity problems with ANH i.e “Where are those transmissions you intercepted?”, “We intercepted no transmissions. This is a consular ship. We’re on a diplomatic mission.”,“Several transmissions were beamed to this ship by Rebel spies”. Although this is all kind of true of Rogue One, the way the Captain and Leia try to pretend they are on a diplomatic mission when Vader just personally chased them out of a docking bay doesn’t really work, and why would they go directly from the battle to Tatooine. “My mission to bring you to Alderaan has failed”, well why did you try and do it with a Star destroyer in hot pursuit?

Maybe there was once a version where Leia really was on her mission to pick up Obi-wan, and either the Rebel Fleet relayed the plans to her, or the spies on the ground sent the plans directly to them rather than to the fleet, this may account for the re-positioning of the communication dish, the reason for which wasn’t really explained in the film.

Imperial Drama and Eadu

  • Darth Vader was going to talk with Krennic aboard the Death Star. It’s possible these scenes were replaced with Tarkin.

I believe that in the original cut of Rogue One both Tarkin and Vader was going to gang up on Krennic after Vader using the force took Krennic’s gun away from him after he drew his gun on Tarkin after both men got into it with one another. And of course Vader’s big scene at the end of the original cut was going to be him force choking Krennic to death after Krennic survived the Death Star blast on the planet of Scarif and was then brought aboard The Devastator. I’ve also seen in a behind-the-scenes video of the actor who plays K-2SO that both he and Captain Andor was originally going to get shot and killed by Krennic right outside of the building that housed the satellite dish. There also was no Jyn in prison scene, Ring of Kafrene scene, marching Bodhi Rook to Saw Gerrera’s men in the early morning hours on Jedha scene and no busting Jyn out of prison on Wobani scene in the original cut of Rogue One.

The only thing that exists on my world is the OT, vader lived on the death star and other ships haha. Not some count ducula castle…cannon, prequels and Wikis are just shite that was created after the event.

What part of previously unused Ralph McQuarrie OT concept do you not get?

None of it, the films are the films.

I have to agree Just because Ralph designed it doesn’t mean we should all accept it as canon.
I dig it though.

I love Vader’s Castle! 😄 And I DO want to see where he lives/chills out when he’s not at work. The Vader’s Castle scene in Rogue One is pretty much an important one too because Vader says to Krennic, “There is no Death Star. The senate has been informed that Jedha was destroyed in a mining disaster.” That line is ingenious and is pretty much for anyone who says, “But the Death Star isn’t operational until the events of the original Star Wars.” And I’m also sure that the Empire swept the Death Star attack on Scarif under the rug as well because that would’ve been a huge embarrassment for them. Just the fact that they had to fire on their own base to squelch the Rebels transmitting the plans to the Rebel Fleet.

By chance I met the Lady that cut’s the trailers for Star Wars in September (on a job) she thinks Disney “might” release Gareth Edwards version one day “possibly” and confirmed that he lost control which is pretty obvious and not really a secret.

But there is a glimmer of hope for either deleted scenes or an alternate cut to see the light of day or it’s being considered no confirmation but her personal opinion. She must have seen loads of it but I did not ask her any specifics, but I did say it was very much a curiosity and can’t help but wonder what it might have been before the changes happened and she understood this and nodded.

Can I draw attention to the fact they all have weird breathing apparatus on again… That’s not by chance that is definitely by design. I can’t help but believe the french translation film dude who claimed about the insectocide attack on Geonosis that Saw and Moroff and two tubes were all involved in.

But any way like I said here’s hoping we get to see it or even some of it and the original end battle. Original Eadu sequence original opening narrative. Original Jedha sequences. Original Yavin scenes.

Best new Star Wars film that I doubt will be toppled by any other Disney release but I would like to see them try.

I agree with you about Rogue One, it’s wonderful. 😄 And don’t forget about the original Vader sequences with Spencer Wilding as the Sith Lord. 😄

Maybe no big news but at least confirmed in an early script to include Vader heading down to the planet, according to Gary Whitta (who spent 9 months writing the screenplay, before being replaced by Chris Weitz). Whitta also apparently wrote the Vader on Mustafar-scene which made it into the final cut.

Haha. The first reply is hilarious. The original question was, “was there anything truly batshit you thought of for Rogue One that didn’t make the cut?”

To which Gary Whitta replies, “Rebel ground troops bunkered in around the Imperial comms tower on Scarif, stormtroopers can’t break through to get to Jyn who’s on her way to transmit plans. Vader says “put me on that beach.” Carnage ensues. You ended up seeing something like that in the corridor scene though.”

And the first reply below is, “Vader would never play in the sand. That is batshit crazy”

Lol.

So, the recent Andor trailer and this thread has sparked my interest in the original cut of Rogue One, and while I’m still in the process of amassing as much info as I can get my hands on, I thought I should point out something I spotted in this screengrab of the Jedha city (apologies, I have read the FAQ on how to post images, but I honestly cannot get it to work)
The grab is from the shot of Jedha city that starts with the Jedha camels on the far right and pans left across the city, the thing that really caught my attention was the downed Tie Fighter to the left hand side. I’m still trying to figure out how the Jedha sequence was meant to work and how the captured rebel pilots would have tied in, and I’m wondering if this is yet another remnant of this lost sub plot?
Another thing I’ve been wondering, was there originally planned to be more tie in viral content perhaps? Along the lines of the X-Wing VR video showing the pilots discovering the Death Star and desperately attempting to warn the Alliance. Could there have possibly been a plan for a YouTube vid or in game explanation for the rebel pilots on Jedha?
Anyway… just a thought.

I found the final script for Rogue One , here: https://www.screenwritersnetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/doc.pdf

Did the original script for Rogue One leak online (the version where Jyn is a Sgt in the Rebellion, and the Rebels have to cross the beach against the ATATs to get to the transmitter tower, like we saw in the early trailers)?

Or is there a good fan recreation of the original script anywhere?

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
