I can’t imagine parting with anything Star Wars related. I don’t like the prequels but there is no way I’d ever get rid of my Phantom Menace VHS even.
Just curious, what would a VHS look like on a 65" screen?
The funny thing about that is one is that the original painting actually used a different picture of Leia to paint than the mock-up does… but it’s still from ESB. Makes me wonder if it was some sort of weird creative decision to have all 3 posters have images from the other films.
Aye, personally I think it’s an awful set of cover art when comparing to many of the quality previous releases - and also when comparing with some superb custom covers on here and other places.

The decision was to make them a connected piece which is why they try to to use one character only once and it probably didn’t matter to Struzan what images he used.

Depends on your VCR. I have one of those fancy “pro-sumer” decks and it looks pretty decent, but I’d much rather play the LaserDisc on it instead… or the GOUT DVDs for that matter.

Not great. At a job I had over the summer they did just that in the break room all the time (DVD player didn’t work). It was interesting.
You do have to find the irony of having Ian’s Emperor on the ESB SE poster when just less than a decade later they would actually insert him into that film!

One only need look to the book covers Struzan painted during the '90s to know this is the case.

I don’t know, but I was playing VHS on a 140" screen last night.
A lot depends on what you feed the composite video signal through before it hits the television.
Running through a Teranex, it looks passable, but still soft.

I’ve been using the vcr with coaxil on a 48 inch hdtv and I think it looks fine.
I bought this VHS set two years ago on ebay for 1€, because i wanted something in my glass cabinet that will always remind me what Star Wars used to be before 1997. Unfortunately i can’t watch it anymore since my vhs recorder died a few years ago.
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Nice. Interesting that Star Wars was translated up to ROTJ
I like the box with that snow creature on it. Never seen that artwork before.
I think it was last used inside the GOUT set.

I got the American version of that set when I was about 11. Loved it.
My sister has had it for the last 17 years and it’s the only versions of the films her three kids have seen. They all love em.

If you can get past the fact that Luke is right next to himself in that. 😉
Here is another German VHS set. The artworks are okay i guess. There is always a round shape behind the centered character. The red planet (or sun?) on the Empire artwork supports Vaders samurai-ish look. The worst element is the font color. Red?! Why? And some of the actors faces look awkward. The best element are the adquate lightsabers on each of the specific movie boxes.

The 1995 covers are not great but they’re the ones I remember most. The old video copies had a metallic red finish on all the titles that I kinda liked.
