I believe this is the most recent post from Harmy on the matter - http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1098196

The man has obviously been busy, he may wish to have a break, do others things, or get straight back into it.

Whatever he does choose to do - those ‘next versions’ will likely take some time.

Try and stay patient Editroid - we already have some superb versions of DeSpecialised, 2 AdyWan Edits & ROTJ being worked on, a whole host of Star Wars fan edits - including those for the new films. As well as a few more Star Wars films (& books and games etc) coming out soon too.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

a very kind member of the community on here has made available the njvc Custom BluRay Set of Harmy’s Despecialised Edition up on Mega.

For more info - http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/NJVC-Custom-Bluray-Set-of-Harmys-Despecialized-Editions-now-available-on-Mega/id/57042/page/1

Well in to him for doing so, and not only for getting permission from both njvc and Harmy beforehand, but for also putting together a quality and useful guide on how to acquire them - and also on how to burn them to disc too.

The Despecialized Editions are still available in their original format - with details on how to acquire them - in Harmy’s 1st post in this thread - as well as in the 1st posts of his ESB and ROTJ threads too…

There is not a version 2.7 for either V or VI. It is unlikely that there will be.

Speaking of versions, that reminds me of a few questions I’ve been meaning to ask about the DEED Project as a whole.

I remember that ROTJ 2.5 dropped on 2/7/16. But I was still pretty new to this site at the time, and hadn’t been around for the initial release of 1.0, or any of the versions of the other films for that matter.

Were the all iterations of the DEEDs prior to that point as follows?:

SW 1.0
SW 2.0
SW 2.5

ESB 1.0
ESB 2.0

ROTJ 1.0

And if so, out of curiosity about the past DEED project timeline, what were the dates Harmy initially posted each of those?

This time I must disagree with ChainsawAsh.

He is correct if you are looking for SW 2.5 or 2.7, ESB 2.0, or ROTJ 2.5.

But anything earlier than that probably won’t be very easy to find. I wouldn’t worry about it though.

About the only reason you’d want to find earlier versions is for comparison purposes. Each subsequent release is just a more highly polished edition of the films.

And boy are we a community that loves it when someone constantly tinkers with our favorite films… * irony *

Oh, my bad, I misread. I thought he was looking for 2.7/2.0/2.5, not earlier versions.

Should we let him know about the Partly Despecialized Editions? This rabbit hole goes pretty deep.

To ChainsawAsh: To be fair, that is that user’s very first post. They might not quite understand what all the version numbers mean yet, and may have meant to ask what you thought they were asking. Hopefully the info we posted helped.

To Scdad: if you need any clarification on what those numbers mean, let us know.

To yoda-sama: Ha ha, yeah irony indeed! I do think, however there is a big difference between polishing and tinkering or changing. Polishing a classic car with an original paint job seems to me akin to what Harmy is doing. What George Lucas has done would be more akin stripping parts of the original paint to add new designs, destroying the original in the process. But the contradiction is striking, isn’t it?

Not a contradiction, but a contrast. The “Special Editions” are on the spectrum of giving the fans the middle finger while the Despecalised are a resurrection and restoration of the true versions of Star Wars.

Yeah, it isn’t really an apt comparison or ironic at all. The tinkering is getting rid of poorer quality elements that “we” (Harmy, the community, etc) introduced in trying to emulate the original.

Ironic would be… I don’t know, trying to conform 2.7 into Harmy’s original partly despecialized release out of nostalgia?

Author

Whether it is a perfect example of irony or not, I at least meant to present it ironically in the context of those sentences. Though when looked at with more scrutiny, it could be funny to think of Harmy’s work as the reverse of the Special Edition process, and not in a high level, obvious, Despecialized mission statement sort of way, I mean how the SE’s got worse all the time with each release, Harmy’s gets better all the time with each release… Partly Despecialized lining up (not chronologically, obviously) as being Harmy’s answer to the Blu-ray tweaks, 1.0 being an answer to DVD tweaks, 2.5 a response to '97 theatrical tweaks (and 2.1 for the title tweak, dropping SE from later VHS covers, officially supplanting SW with the SE)… 2.7 being an answer to the '81 crawl tweak… 3.0 finally meeting up harmoniously (Harmyoniously?) with the original theatrical release.

Harmy didn’t really say:

The current Despecialized Edition, that’s the one I wanted out there. The other versions, they’re on the torrents, if anybody wants them. To me, they don’t really exist anymore. It’s like this is the movie I wanted it to be, and I’m sorry you saw half a completed restoration and fell in love with it. But I want it to be the way I want it to be.

But I bet he’s thought it 😉
