Terrible DVD/Blu-ray Cover Art — Page 7

I would guess the poster isn’t considered, as it has to “read” well being seen on the screen of a small device? If you’re totally unfamiliar with the movie, screaming Chunk isn’t going to draw them in, sorry kid!

Love this thread. That R1 cover is shocking. Worthy of inclusion in an all-time-worst-photoshop-nightmares list, never mind just DVD covers.

I hated this cover for the TCM ‘The Lady from Shanghai’ blu-ray…

…fortunately the new Indicator release features artwork based on the original beautiful poster art…

Even though the features are very similar, I bought it just so I didn’t have to look at the TCM cover anymore when I wanted to watch the movie 😉 This old one is pretty suspect too…

I think every cover with a quoted review of the movie on the front belongs in this thread.

What about the dudes with the missing bodies?

I only ask because I’ve never seen this.

It’s not possible to create to a non-terrible DVD cover if you have to spell the word midnight “Midnite”, so why bother putting any more effort in.

One (surprisingly) from Criterion, arriving in September…

Colorise a blurry screengrab from a B&W classic? Yeah that’ll do, it’s not like Criterion are famous for their good taste in covers or anything.

Still, it’s better than this…

…but hardly this…

Even Laserdisc is not immune to lousy cover art.

Robocop 6? What the heck? And is the Robo in the middle wearing lipstick?

RoboCop 6 is a non-existent sequel directed by Michael Vejar. “Vejar”, presumably, is pronounced the same as “V’Ger”. V’Ger was the evolved form of the Voyager 6 space probe, which also is non-existent in real life.

Hmmm. . . .

Maybe they slapped some episodes of the tv series together, and passed it off on overseas audiences as a movie?

Michael Vejar is a cult-TV directing legend, directing many of Babylon 5’s best episodes and movies, plus lots of episodes TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise… and yes the Robocop TV show.

While this one for ‘Brassed Off’ isn’t as bad as some design-wise, the total misrepresentation of the film as some kind of a Jennifer-Aniston-style light romcom is bizarre…

Imagine of somebody bought it thinking it was… then they get to the clown swearing at the children, the suicide scene and an old man coughing up blood.

Think it means it was so bad they had to give it away for free 😉
