The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS ** — Page 148

I don’t think people appreciate what a challenge it was to make The Force Awakens. It could have been a disaster. The first movie after the divisive prequels and now without Lucas and under new Disney management. TFA was exactly what was needed to make things right again. I know some didn’t like it, but sometimes you have to do what is necessary to get where you want to go. It definitely reinvigorated the franchise.

It was a disaster for the most part.

It still wasn’t as bad as the prequels, though.

Thankfully it was’t a disaster.

“People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians”

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” --George Lucas on March 3, 1988

Everything that’s mostly wrong with the film could still be fixed with the right faneditors.

That really depends on what you find “mostly wrong” with it. A very personal opinion.

That’ll become more and more clearer to everyone as time moves on and the hype of the ST dies down.

A fanditor cannot shoot new scenes and change the script, so no faneditor can change the fondamental issues and flaws of the PT, TFA and even ROTJ.

The Prequels are, in the main, beyond hope - though made better (to some extent - it’s mainly subjective) by some very talented Fan Editors out there…

As for shooting new scenes, and possibly adapting the script… [coughs…] Adywan [coughs…]

Though not actually shooting new scenes - but did add dialogue from other films or material, or recorded new or modulated dialogue - the ADigitalMan Edits and MagnoliaFan Edits accomplished that 12-15 years ago (likely some others too).

Hal9000, DigiMod & Sir Ridley have done (or are doing) some intriguing work on TFA - amongst other Fan Editors… yet most are seemingly only slight changes or personal preferences…

eldusto84 did some interesting work on R1 too, changing the the fundamental feel of the movie (whether good, bad or indifferent - again, all subjective), through centreing the focus on the more action-orientated last third of the movie.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

You might be able to edit all three prequels down into one decent movie. You can’t fix what’s wrong with The Force Awakens because there’s nothing wrong with it.

They were edited down to three movies: Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, where everything you need to know about them was exposition, and took place in the distant past, far off screen.

I like TFA despite its flaws.

That’s some mighty fine editing there to fit a narrative.

“[cont] But might be a good sign! Because I was really wrong about 7. I said, When I turn around, audiences will hoot holler, ‘that’s an obvious cheat!’ I didn’t foresee John William’s incredible music and the shots of Daisy; the buildup to it all. So, I was never happier to be wrong.”

Don’t know, I’ve only seen one fanedit from Adywan and there was no new scene (except a few more shots during the DS assault) and the only script changing idea was to edit a scene the way it was written which proved the theatrical cut was vastly superior. But I’m talking about “editing”; if someone shoots new scene it’s not just editing anymore.
