started watching Stranger Things On Netflix, I am child of the late 70s and early 80s and the show gives me the feels big time . The kids on the show give an accurate portrayal of early 80s childhood .

That is an awesome show and was the perfect glimpse into the childhoods of our generation. Plus my kids kinda understand why their dad turned out like he did. Can’t wait for season 2.

I think we’d all like an explanation for that. 😉

Well it all started a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… 😄

Deutschland 83 was pretty decent - an eight episode German television series, focusing on a 24-year-old native of East Germany who in 1983 is sent to the West as an undercover spy for the HVA, the foreign intelligence agency of the Stasi.

Cracking tunes from the time, some great pacing and tension - and a welcome throwback to how life was back then 😃

Roll on Deutschland 86 - which should be out next year…

Yes i really enjoyed Deutschland 83. thats the first i have heard of Deutschland 86, interesting!

i really hate it when shows change names between seasons, it is confusing to media organization!

‘This Is England’ likes to change name between series too - though thankfully just adding '86, '88, or '90 on the end. Still a bit confusing as my memory from that time is a little hazy - and events seems to merge between the years…

anyway - http://www.screendaily.com/news/channel-4-recruits-deutschland-83-sequel/5110390.article - I hope his girlfriend is back too, and that Chinese agent too - quite alluring, if a little dangerous 😃

Watched the eighth season of The Simpsons.

  • “Treehouse of Horror VII” – 8/10
  • “You Only Move Twice” – 9/10
  • “The Homer They Fall” – 6/10
  • “Burns, Baby Burns” – 6/10
  • “Bart After Dark” – 7/10
  • “A Milhouse Divided” – 8/10
  • “Lisa’s Date with Density” – 8/10
  • “Hurricane Neddy” – 10/10
  • “El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer” – 10/10
  • “The Springfield Files” – 10/10
  • “The Twisted World of Marge Simpson” – 8/10
  • “Mountain of Madness” – 9/10
  • “Simpsoncalifragilisticexpiala(Annoyed Grunt)cious” – 9/10
  • “The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show” – 6/10
  • “Homer’s Phobia” – 8/10
  • “Brother from Another Series” – 9/10
  • “My Sister, My Sitter” – 10/10
  • “Homer vs. the 18th Amendment” – 9/10
  • “Grade School Confidential” – 8/10
  • “The Canine Mutiny” – 8/10
  • “The Old Man and the Lisa” – 7/10
  • “In Marge We Trust” – 8/10
  • “Homer’s Enemy” – 9/10
  • “The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase” – 10/10
  • “The Secret War of Lisa Simpson” – 9/10

Hmmm. I’ve rated three of Season 8’s episodes 6/10; none of the prior seasons had that many imperfect episodes*. Yet I’ve also rated five episodes 10/10; none of the prior seasons had that many perfect episodes. Thus I’m left with a conundrum: Is Season 8 the first season of The Simpsons to show signs of ennui or isn’t it?

*I think. I have to re-watch the first three seasons to know for sure.

Watched the first season of an objectively bad anime called Attack on Titan, but gleaned some measure of enjoyment (as hard as that is to conceive) out of it. It could’ve done with less padding, though; the plot didn’t justify twenty-five episodes.

I very much enjoyed Attack on Titan, and wouldn’t call it “objectively bad”. It is very much aimed at the Shonen (young males) demographic, which means that it’s often over the top, but it’s a fascinating world. Most of it is very well-paced in my opinion except for the two ‘Eve of the Counterattack’ episodes. They could have been removed with little problem.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

My “objectively bad” comment was sarcastic snark directed at the anti-anime posters around here. I don’t really think it was bad at all.

This is why the internet is such a horrible place to live, bereft of sarcasm and snark detectors.

In related news, season 2 is being aired, and I’ll make a report when I finish it 😃

Finally cracked and watched season 1 of Strange Things after i got some a suggestion from a person i trust in these matters. And knowing a season 2 was coming helped. I enjoyed it, although i will be honest, I feel like it vacillates between being a kid-based nostalgia trip at times, and scary sci-fi at other times. overall though, extremely well done. Everyone seemed to gush about the kids when this first came out, and they are pretty good, but the show wouldn’t be as good without some of the adult characters. Chief Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder) really make this show great with their consistently solid performances.

And just finished watching Season 2 of Master of None. A pretty good season overall, i would rate it the same as the first season, which was also good. I was kinda worried it would go downhill.

I actually think Winona Ryder gives the weakest performance in Stranger Things. It’s a tough role to be sure, but still.

I’m currently watching Episode 434 of One Piece.

That’s an interesting opinion…I’m more worried about Joyce character going forwards than Winona as an actress. I don’t see much growth to be had with her unlike the rest of the characters and outside of Season One she isn’t essential for the overall plot of the series to move forward.

Well, it’s possible that my problem was more with the character than her performance.

With her mental state being what it was we never got to see what “normal” Joyce was like prior to Will vanishing and only got to see glimpses of her being normal in a couple of flashbacks. I’m not sure exactly how Season Two is going to pan out but they can certainly flesh her out a bit more and show a different…less jittery side of Joyce.

I DON’T KNOW SHE WAS JUST ANNOYING MOST OF THE TIME AND STUCK OUT IN A BAD WAY AMONG ALL THE OTHER CHARACTERS I LIKED SO STOP TRYING TO CHANGE MY MIND OK FINE SHE WAS THE BEST PART OF THE SHOW!!!

:p

Started season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Always lots of good laughs.

I find Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) to be an odd character. Never very funny on her own (Titus and Jacqueline get the most laughs out of me), but she is very necessary to the formula of the show at the same time.

Kind of like Michael’s character in Arrested Development I think.

Pryde of The X Men: (“X Meeeen! X MEEEEN!”)

Very interesting indeed, cheesier (especially the theme song) and more heavy handed than the actual series that followed it but still enjoyable enough on it’s own. The animation is much more consistent and better overall than TAS however, and a lot better than most 80s cartoons in general which usually had awesome openings and lackluster animation for the actual episodes themselves. Although one thing that did bother me was that Kitty Pryde states that she’s 14 years old yet looks like she’s in her twenties, what’s up with that?

I also decided to check out a few episodes of Wolverine and The X Men for the first time since it first aired in '09. I would say it’s better in places like animation, voice acting and character designs than TAS but I think TAS is just more entertaining as a show.

Archer. Fantastic and hilarious all the way through. Even the stories are well made in addition to being hysterical. Noticeable dip in season 6 but picks back up in 7. Also the later seasons trade some of the comedy for clever storytelling but the level of quality is the same. Although few series make me laugh as much as the first three seasons so it’s a bit disappointing even though it continued to be well done.
