Ah, 1000 times better. You have nicely fixed one of the most annoying gaffes in the movie. Where can I get a 1080 p copy?

😃 It’s not done yet though.

Since Rogue One just came out on Blu-ray, I thought that there might be a Star Destroyer-over-Jedha sound effect that could be used for the two effects shots, since it seems strange for Finn to be reacting to something so silent.

Good point! Maybe something like this: https://youtu.be/YW0kuf2Lx-Q?t=3m49s I’ll see what I can do.

Here’s the full quality X-wing approach shot that I partially fixed months ago. Now the blast wreckage is almost gone and the weapon nozzle has been further cleaned up:

JEDIT: This is version 5, not 4.
Further JEDIT: I forgot that Sir Ridley already de-wrecked the shot:

I wouldn’t mind if those planet textures were integrated into the new shot 😉

Nice work! I’ll try to combine our shots.

Another idea to file under the ‘not directly applicable to the project’, this one uses video from the Last Jedi trailer:

The compression does unkind things for the effects.

I feel that this addition makes sense for several reasons.

The first is that the audience doesn’t know much about Rey at this point in the movie, and this shifts her dream of flying to the island from a vague motivation to a strong, specific motivation. It also foreshadows her expansive Force Vision when she touches the lightsaber, and retroactively shows that she has some Force sensitivity even this early in the movie.

The second reason for this is to make sense of Kylo’s reference to her imaginings at night of the sea and the island. As the interrogation stands now his reference is news to the audience, making Rey into something of an unreliable ‘narrator’ when we most need to be sympathizing with her. Since the audience has shared in her daydream, his invasion is more personal.

The third reason for this addition is that it visually establishes Luke’s island from the beginning of the movie, and so when Rey finally reaches the island, the movie visually communicates that one of her strong motivations is now satisfied, bringing greater closure to the film.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

^ beautifully done - really good work - and a very cool idea too 😃

Hope it makes it into the Edit - definitely adds to her character and foreshadows her abilities shown later on.

There is something very poetic about that dream sequence, something… very Dune-esque. Very good call.

Well, without actually watching this clip, I’m not 100% I like the Rey dream idea for this edit. The whole point for this edit is to restructure the SKB and I’m not sure the Rey dream fits with that goal. But as I said, I have yet to watch the video.

NeverarGreat, It’s very obvious that you put a great deal of thought into story structure. This idea is fantastic and it only serves to improve the movie.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It may not be strictly within the bounds of this edit, but I thought it was worth submitting for consideration.

There is one more thing that this addition makes more clear that I didn’t realize until now, and that is Maz’s words about how the Force has ‘always been there’.

Here’s version 2 (or 8, but who’s counting?):

The first water video has been replaced with one that more closely matches the island shot, there’s a slight zoom in on Rey between the two shots, and the island shot has been lengthened and stabilized.

Great idea! I don’t think the execution is perfect yet, but the idea totally works. There’s a couple of things that bother me. First the film grain on the background image of the desert, you can tell it’s a still frame. Preferably the grain should be removed from the background layer. And second I think the horizons should be aligned so it feels more like the sand turns into water instead of the island and ocean floating above everything else.

I like the idea and the execution is promising, but I don’t think this should be included in this particular edit.

Don’t get me wrong. I like your ideas but unlike the added Snap dialog in the briefing scene which explains the Republic’s absence in the final battle and thus strengthens the restructure, this one is completely independant from the original goal. The same goes for your R2 edit as well.
From my point of view it might be better if you started your own edit based on Hal’s restructure to implement all these additional small changes. But in the end it’s Hal’s call of course 😃

I agree, but I still think it’s nice that there’s a place for all kinds of ideas in this thread, and then HAL can decide which ones work for his edit.

I’ll be using most of these ideas for my own edit which I’ll complete at some point after Restructured v2 is done.

You get me hyped. I would suggest you to check DigMod edit which has plenty of good ideas to give consistency to Finn.

Oh, I read about that one! I see he just finished it, I’ll take a look.

after actually viewing the video i have to say, that this idea is a good one. i would have to agree with ridley on it though. the execution isn’t quite there yet. but it definitely has potential. as far as it being something that is included in this edit…i’m still on the fence

I like it…but not for this edit. I feel like a new viewer would find it a little jarring.

The R2 stuff totally belongs in this edit though. I like your solution vastly better than the v1 solution of just cutting 3P0’s line.

Here’s version 3 of the scene:

https://mega.nz/#!edc3hLzB!jwPhXUHnAxZMXp2CWEBEQ5cYOLKiIH0kdfgZe6sQ5Y4

I totally understand if this doesn’t end up being used in the edit. I just haven’t committed to making a standalone edit of the film since I’m not too concerned with changing or deleting a whole lot. I feel like TFA is too frenetic as is, so most of my interest is in adding and extending crucial shots and scenes to let the film breathe. The biggest change I would make would be what Hal is already doing, so I feel like my edit would be rather superfluous.

JEDIT: There are several references to ships, pilots, and flying in the scene, so it would probably be less jarring if it was more obvious that she was imagining flying a ship. Perhaps compositing her into the cockpit of an imaginary X-wing would sell the illusion and further indicate her unique Force vision ability where she is interacting within the vision itself.

Oh, Sweden. How you make me laugh. If you want a crawl template I have one available that works with blender and can easily be imported into after effects where lense distortion, gate weave, and chromatic abrasion can be applied later. But this is hardly the place to be asking these types of questions. Try direct messaging those you would like help from.

I know i have it already but thing is that its not in perfect timing and the logo in the beginning is wrong. That logo is from the prequel trilogy, i need the Star Wars Logo from 2015 which looks little bit different. Can i change the Star Wars Logo in the template?. Or could you upload a new fixed version of your Custom Crawl Revisited.
