One of the alternate endings would have fixed this issue as Leia was on Coruscant when the battle on Scarif was going down.

On a semi side note that alternate ending is pretty damn bold. Suicide would have been a hard pill to swallow for some but damn it would have been the last thing I expected had this happened.

Can you expand on this? I’ve read a few articles about the alternate ideas/cuts/whathaveyou. But I don’t recall suicide in any of it? Also, that’s the first I’ve heard of an ending with Leia on Coruscant.

.

Cool, thanks. I kinda like his original ending idea with the multiple hyperspace jumps and beaming the plans to leia. But I’m happy with what we got too, and I’m in the camp of “the Vader scene was awesome and totally works” so I’m kinda glad it wound up that way.

Well I was hoping days or longer… ‘we’ve traced the rebel spies’ sounds like a long process not just glancing out at the corvette’s license plate. Comments floating around make it sound like the latter though. I will see how this all holds up on second viewing.

Yep you’re 100% right about that. This all Vader/Leia affair (sic) which ends the movie is a huge continuity mistake. Leia should have never been at this battle; Vader should have engaged charcaters we know and not just random rebel troopers we don’t care about. This clearly shows the limits of fan-service when it doesn’t serve (and even damage) the story. Without its “OT skin” this movie would already be forgotten.

Maybe they are random rebel troopers you don’t care about - though to me, for what they were fighting for, in the situation they were in, for the actions and sacrifice of others to get this far, knowing they were likely going to die - yet still did their utmost to get those plans out of there… I sure did care. I think probably many others do too?

It certainly didn’t ‘clearly show the limits of fan service’ or ‘damage the story’ - in fact, for me it was just the opposite… the everyman characters making a difference too, making their deaths count for something, to contribute to the cause in which they giving their lives for - along with the ‘heroes of the story’ in the Rogue One crew.

Yes, it was a great scene itself with Vader showing his prowess, but the overall message of the film - for me anyway - was that of sacrifice for a better future, or at least a chance of a better future.

Whether that be Galen working for the Empire for years to actually hinder it in the design flaw and to delay it as long as possible, the Rogue One crew & the rebel soldiers on Scarif knowing the situation was likely a one-way mission, to the overall actions of the Alliance when they decide to join the fight.

‘Without its “OT skin” this movie would already be forgotten.’ - well, erm… considering the whole film is set in that OT timeline and a big part of that OT story - to the point where the story of the film is embedded in the OT, it is not quite a valid criticism, is it?

You could equally say Return Of The Jedi wouldn’t have been made ‘without it’s OT skin’, no?

Isn’t it nice to see Mala’s critiques still inane as ever?

I’m sure he’ll be back with more of them soon mate 😃

Has everyone decided where they are going to get the Rogue One blu-ray/DVD? Anyone going for an exclusive? I’m most likely getting the Steelbook.

Yeah I dunno. None of them stand out to me, and when I upgraded to the Blu-ray of all the star wars I got the steelbook because I couldn’t stand the saga case and artwork (young Ani on the cover? No thanks). So with no other Strong reason to choose, it’s probably going to be another steelbook.

on second thought, if i pre-order the standard bluray set on target today, i get a 5 dollar target gift card. that makes it the best price by far. (as far as i can tell, this offer ends at midnight tonight.)

JEDIT: nevermind, that gift card barely cancels out the required shipping and handling fees (no in store pickup for pre-order).

I’m trying to figure out why Amazon still doesn’t have any pre-order inventory. I have Prime so that’s definitely the most affordable and convenient option for me. But I’m probably not going to watch it for a month anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.

That does seem odd. i finally put in my pre-order through best buy. currently they have it $5 off so i can get it for $25 with in store pickup for free (i am getting the steelbook). if someone ones wants the movie the day it comes out, this is probably the way to go. that or wait and try to pick it up without the pre-order…

Nice work mate - the grey and beige contrast gives it a very defined retro look (in my humble opinion)

Amazon and Disney are in a dispute about home video profits or something.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Jedha’s Kyber Crystals Came From an Asteroid in ‘Rogue One’, But Where Did the Asteroid Come From?..

http://www.slashfilm.com/rogue-one-kyber-crystals/

This was one of the dumbest things in R1. If you go back and look at the original trilogy, there was no pseudo-scientific explanation for how anything worked. Lightsabers simply existed, a very small number of people had them and used them, and that’s all you needed to know.

As this was a spin-off anthology film, I might have found something like this interesting, if the filmmakers had really made a true science-fiction film, including extensive research and thorough presentation. But it’s really just a bunch of wannabes who don’t know anything, making something up out of their *** and thinking “yeah, that’ll work”.

It wasn’t Star Wars. It wasn’t science fiction. I don’t know what it was.

I’m not 100% sure what you are referring to in your post?

Do you mean that Jedha was full of materials (kyber crystals) that were being mined to power the weapon for the Death Star? (And that also, before the fall of the Republic, that these crystals were used to power the lightsabres of the Jedi?)

Or that this easter egg - likely many people watching Rogue One will never know about, or likely even think about, that asteroid crashing on planet full of these crystals originated elsewhere - which’ll (for the hard-core fans) opens of the possibility of a comic, book, cartoon adaptation as to that origin - or just something to talk about?

Or you are using a post about this easter egg to further continue your trend of posts that seemingly tries to pass off your opinion as fact - on how rubbish you found it? For eg, “But it’s really just a bunch of wannabes who don’t know anything, making something up out of their *** and thinking ‘yeah, that’ll work’”

Sorry, I thought my post was more clear. The magic crystal thing is not Star Wars. You won’t find **** like that in the original three movies. Some creatively challenged animated TV-writer of limited ability, or some creatively challenged EU author of limited writing ability, came up with it out of his ***, and Disney’s creatively bankrupt hacks decided to borrow it, as they are accustomed to doing.

It wasn’t science fiction. It wasn’t spiritual. It wasn’t space opera. It was hack, junior high magic fantasy genre stuff that is not Star Wars. Pretty simple really.
