Oh, the real life strikes back ! 😉 Congratulations for you job !

Why wouldn’t Despecialized become a team/community work for the next edition(s) ? I know it is yet partly the case (the list of “special thanks”, Towne’s SW etc.), but what if guy who have the skills and the experience here work together for scenes replacement, rotoscoping etc. under your supervision ?

For the Original, since Neverar’s correction is coming soon and good 35 mm available references multiplicating, the OT community should move forward ! “On met la gomme Chico !”

Moving forward, the most useful sources for Despecialized will surely be cleaned up 35mm footage. I don’t think there could be any harm in lots of people contributing properly cleaned shots. But I don’t think there are very many people here who are particularly skilled at this. It would not be ideal to farm out the work to unproven people. While the initial learning curve is not too bad (and this is speaking from my own personal experience) for cleaning up quick shots, credits, etc, it is quite another thing to rely on us random folks for the bulk of the film. It can be a long and taxing process and it is easy to make mistakes that are destructive to the product. I am certainly not qualified for any kind of extensive restoration.

Training people in these skills is a project in and of itself. But if people took the time and effort to learned (and showed some example work based on any of the now available 35mm scans for quite a few films), I don’t think it would be unreasonable to get a few more people involved.

Anything to do with color correction, on the other hand, needs to be done by as few people as possible, in my opinion. As shown in the many color correction threads, we’ve all got different opinions. Most of the things we all come up with are honestly probably good enough. But the grading needs to be consistent.

Also: congrats on the job, Harmy!

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Hell, you and I have in the past debated extensively on which correction of one shot was more correct where the majority of people would see no difference at all. (Artoo in the canyon anyone? :p)

Any recent movement on this, or are things more or less the same as they were a couple months ago?

First off, thank you Harmy and everyone involved on this outstanding project!

Second off, I recently got the AVCHD version, and was curious about the audio. I stumbled upon some YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/WTuj61vsJcA?t=6m22s and the guy is highlighting how Luke says, "This is it!"
Is that audio mix only in the bigger MKV version? I’ve cycled through all the audio tracks in VLC and Luke’s line in question never is heard except in one of the commentary tracks. It’s a very, very minor point, I know, but what exactly is the story behind that piece of dialogue from Luke? Was that always in the theatrical version, or in some other version? From comparing the audio tracks available in the AVCHD vs MKV, I can only guess that line is probably found in the 1993 laser disc audio track, which the MKV file has and the AVCHD doesn’t?

Just curious!

The version he shows in which Luke says “This is it!” is the Blu-ray. He then shows the GOUT and Despecialized, both of which are missing the line.

Oh wow my bad, I totally see I wasn’t paying attention now. Thank you for pointing it out to me!

No worries! I had to watch it a couple of times to figure out what was happening.

Hi guys, does anyone have a list of suggested names for each chapter break in the de’s of sw,esb and jedi? I have looked around but cant find anything. I can happily insert my own chosen names into AVCHD i just wondered if anyone had made some up. Thanks.

alexp120 has done this for most releases i think. Either find a way to summon him, or else try a google site search “site:originaltrilogy.com alexp120 chapter break”

These are about as close to official as you can get. Most of the titles come from the official Blu-rays, but have been tweaked a bit by oojason to account for differences between the official releases and the Despecialized Edition. Hope that helps!

The NJVC Custom Bluray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions is available on Mega.

Aren’t they just the same chapter titles as the GOUT?

Author

That’s probably true, but I’m assuming Captain_Danielsan doesn’t have access to a GOUT disc. And oojason left this note at the bottom of his Star Wars post:

oojason said:

Chapters 24 & 44 were Chapter Titles with names from the Special Editions (‘Jabba The Hutt’ & ‘Luke & Biggs’) - my copy of Harmy’s DeSE didn’t have Chapter Titles so I just made them up for Chapters 24 & 44 - just a heads-up).

cheers mate 😃

It’s so long I ago I can’t remember where I got the majority of the Chapter Titles from - but hopefully they are all correct (in that they correspond with what is on screen).

The timings definitely are correct - I DO remember going through them a LOT to make sure they were 😃

Glad to see the latest release is still 2.0, I just had to download SW and ROTJ to be up to date.

I downloaded the MKV file on Uloz and it is corrupted.

Are you sure? Isn’t that posted as series of rar files? So which rar is corrupt?

I don’t know. The entire download when I use Winzip says that it is corrupt. I can watch the movie but I can’t skip chapters.

Does your download include the readme file? it include checksums, and that is the best way to determine if your file is corrupt.

When using Winzip during unzipping it stops about 75% through and says the file is corrupted. However, as I stated previously, the movie plays fine but you cannot skip chapters. There is no readme file.

Sorry, I have just registered to say “thanks” to Harmy and to ask a favour…

I am downloading Despecialized for a family member. He doesn’t want 20~ GB per movie files, so I’m downloading the NTSC DVD5 versions for him, but the DVD5 versions do not have the Castillian dubs IIRC. The HD versions I have doesn’t feature the Castillian dubs either, because while I downloaded the vanilla mkv files of SW 2.7, TESB 2.0 and RotJ 2.5 a long time ago, I ended up remuxing them and deleting nearly all the audio tracks except the English ones and the commentaries as I didn’t think I would need any dubs. That way I saved a few GBs. Silly me.

I don’t have problems remuxing files, I just need the Castillian tracks for the trilogy if someone is kind enough to provide them. If not, then I’ll redownload the original files and do it myself.

I also want to ask if you people know why is link 09 of the multipart RAR download of the NSTC DVD5 version of RotJ DeEd 2.5 broken. No matter whether I use Firefox or Chrome, this link doesn’t work, it only downloads a 60,1 kB file: [redacted by mod - no links to downloads of copyrighted material]

Cheers, and thank you Harmy for your work.

PM sent for Castilian dubs. Not sure about the NTSC DVD5 download RARs.

Part 09 is down here too (not sure why it’s broken now) although I get a 32.9 kB file. An alternative source for this DVD5 is Usenet, but it means downloading the whole thing from scratch since the parts there don’t correspond to those on uloz. Mallwalker kindly posted it 498 days ago, and all parts still appear to be there.

[EDIT: PM sent regarding post below to help with Usenet.]

Thank you CatBus for the tracks. And thank you for Project Threepio btw.

I have downloaded the DVD5 version of SW DeEd 2.7 and I remuxed it with the Castillian dub, no problems. I’ll try the other movies tomorrow.

EDIT: Unfortunately, Bluto, I do not have access to Usenet so it’s not an option for me. Not sure what can I do then.

Wow! I’d never given this any thought, after reading this post I learned that
my copy of Jedi does indeed have chapter names, while the other two films do not.
Since I’ve yet to burn my custom projects I’m sure I would have discovered this
at that time and come hear asking this same question. Thanks for the links, I’ve
snagged all three to text files for future muxing!

I thought I recognized your foul stench when I entered this forum!
