"I'll probably be popped off by some loony." -John Lennon
Isn't this quote creepy?

Did Lennon actually said that, or is it one of those urban legends that passed along after he died?

He did actually say that.

There was this documentary about Lennon filmed during the mid 70s, and they were filming in his house when this loony broke into his house, wanting to talk to him, saying that he made a song specially for him, and Lennon started arguing with him, like "I didn't sing that, that was Paul! And how would we be doing a song about YOU, I don't know you!", and the guy was obviously mentally disturbed but very embarassed, and then Lennon said "Are you hungry?", the man, confused, replied yes, and Lennon invited him to his house and had some toasts and tea for him. Maybe that happened frequently with the Beatles...
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

“If I have no ties and no affections, hatred and vice must be my portion; the love of another will destroy the cause of my crimes, and I shall become a thing, of whose existence everyone will be ignorant. My vices are the children of a forced solitude I abhor: and my virtues will necessarily arise when I live in communion with an equal. I shall feel the affections of a sensitive being, and become linked to the chain of existence and events, from which I am now excluded.”

“Artistic freedom means that the amateur filmmaker is never forced to sacrifice visual drama and beauty to a stream of words…to the relentless activity and explanations of a plot…nor is the amateur production expected to return profit on a huge investment by holding the attention of a massive and motley audience for 90 minutes…Instead of trying to invent a plot that moves, use the movement of wind, or water, children, people, elevators, balls, etc. as a poem might celebrate these. And use your freedom to experiment with visual ideas; your mistakes will not get you fired.”

‘Oh, I don’t know. Is it that we collectively thought Steve Jobs was a great man, even when we knew he made billions off the backs of children? Or maybe it’s that it feels like all our heroes are counterfeit? The world itself’s just one big hoax. Spamming each other with our running commentary of bullshit, masquerading as insight, our social media faking as intimacy. Or is it that we voted for this? Not with our rigged elections, but with our things, our property, our money. I’m not saying anything new. We all know why we do this, not because Hunger Games books makes us happy, but because we wanna be sedated. Because it’s painful not to pretend, because we’re cowards. Fuck society’.

^ Mr Robot

There are a few other quotes on-point too…

‘Give a man a gun he’ll rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he’ll rob the world’.

I’ll end on one with a brighter outlook:-

‘You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream’ - C.S. Lewis (I think).

Edit - forgot this poignant one too…

‘Oh Well! Who wants to live forever? Dive!!!’ - Vultan

“That’s part of our policy, is not to be taken seriously, because I think our opposition, whoever they may be, in all their manifest forms, don’t know how to handle humor. You know, and we are humorous, we are, what are they, Laurel and Hardy. That’s John and Yoko, and we stand a better chance under that guise, because all the serious people, like Martin Luther King, and Kennedy, and Gandhi, got shot.” -John Lennon
