To people like me, whom (I think I’m using whom right, I never mastered that) TFA and R1 failed to even moderately entertain, saying ROTS is better isn’t saying very much. Not sure if that’s part of John Doom’s reasoning. TFA and R1 are above the prequels in my ranking, but not by much.

It’s hard to explain my reasons in just a few words. I do think ROTS is a more entertaining movie than R1 and TFA, but not in a “full action packed blockbuster” way, but mostly because it seems to care more about its characters, its plot and subtexts. Despite Lucas’s well-known cold writing, ROTS has some of the most moving scenes of the whole saga. It works to me because, even though not everything was well executed, it was done for a purpose and under one vision: Anakin becames slowly aware of being corrupted, until he loses his very own identity.
In comparison, I think R1 and especially TFA lack proper visions and subtexts: in these movies, it’s all about the scenes, but most of them feel somehow formulaic and disjointed from the others, seem to lack a coherent purpose, which makes them look less interesting to me, emotionless, even boring in some cases. I’d like to tell more about this topic, but I’d need to write a very long wall of text 😄 I would if asked, though.
Of course there are a lot of things I dislike in ROTS as a Star Wars movie, like all those continuity issues and Palpatine used as a comic relief in some scenes, but I do think it is, overall, still a better movie on its own than both R1 and TFA, though not by much. It’s not a masterpiece, in any case 😄 , but it’s the one I keep watching occasionally, while I just can’t watch again TFA (R1 I can’t say, since I just saw it yesterday 😄 ).
One last thing: I’m definitely not a fan of CG, but when comparing the PT to the new Disney movies, I think it’s useless to bring up the CGI issue, because they all used quite a lot of digital effects (despite the marketing saying otherwise) and they both look CG, no matter what. The only difference is that the PT’s CG is older.

All I can say to both of the things you said here is I feel like we watched completely different movies all the way around.

With that said, thank you for at least saying something more substantial than “TFA was pure shit.”

After watching R1’s fanedit “Rise of the Rebellion” a few weeks ago, which cuts around 9 minutes of very tiresome material and the very embarrassing fan-service and weird “NAME THIS PLACE” cards, I’m beginning to reconsider my quite harsh 0/10 to R1 (could be a 3 or 4/10 now, don’t know yet). It’s a bad and boring movie but I’m very fond of the visuals and of the soundtrack, with lots of little good additions here and there (the whills, kyber crystal, Vader’s castle, Tarkin taking full power of the DS, etc.), and overall it looks very good and, at least visually, makes a fine transition between ROTS (which is still a good SW entry in my book) and ANH (still the best SW to date). I might then put TFA at the bottom of my ranking and put R1 just below AOTC.

So, my ranking:

  1. OT
    1.5. CW (2001-2003)
  2. PT
    2.5. TCW (2008-2014) / Rebels (2014-2018)
  3. R1
  4. ST

TFA was pure shit. So one can reasonably say that just about anything is better than TFA.

You’re on thin ice, my friend.

As previously stated to you - and others…

'If you are here to bait or antangonise fellow forum members for having an a different opinion of a movie than yourself - an opinion on which you repeatedly try to declare as some sort of fact - then I suggest you, and anyone of the same mindset, stop.

Having a differing opinion, explaining why, talking about it, and exchanging views is great and to be encouraged - what you seem to repeatedly be doing here is far-removed from this.

You’re much better than that - please start posting like it.’

I strongly suggest you take the time to explain why your views are what they are - as Mala, John Doom and others of this community of diverse opinons do.

I’m not going to warn you again.

I was only expressing my opinion, for which I explained the underlying reasons several times in the past. I do not see the point of explaining the same reasons to the people who are already familiar with them whenever I want to repeat my opinion. Especially since whenever I do restate my reasons behind my opinion I get these kind of responses:

If you don’t see the point of explaining (or repeating) your reasons as to your opinions then I suggest you keep those opinions (which you certainly don’t mind repeating) off this site.

You have been asked to explain your reasons - if you choose not to, or don’t see the point in doing so, then that is on you - do not deflect that onto others.

I like how you’ve already judged a movie that hasn’t been released and a movie that hasn’t stated filming. Gee, I wonder how low you’ll make your eventual ratings. How low does a negative point scale go in your universe?

There is no forum rule against restating an opinion without restating the reasons. If the rules are updated to incorporate that, I will gladly abide it. So far I have strictly abided every forum rule.

Sorry, this part you added (edited in) afterwards and was not included in my previous reply.

Anyway, you were the first one asking for explanation. Before you, dahmage and TV’s Frink were just being hostile and rude (pretty sure they broke at least two forum rules).

So I will restate my reasons for you. I think TFA hardly has a storyline. It is basically just a collection of elements they wanted to rehash plus some random elements that have nothing to do with what was supposed to be the main plot objective of the film (that is finding Luke). Just one of many examples: death star is completely irrelevant to the plot objective.

The ST is only TFA for now: I’ll adjust (or not, but still hope I will) my ranking when TLJ can be seen.

That doesn’t make any sense since it’s not a trilogy yet, and you could have just as easily (and more correctly) said TFA instead of ST, but I forgive you.

I stated that i reported you, and that i believe you are being an unreasonable troll for CONSTANTLY making the ridiculous statement that TFA is “pure shit”. If you only vented this over the top rating once or twice i would consider it just you venting, but you bring it up practically every time you choose to post on this site. Which really seems like the actions of a Troll. I guess i am the one that needs to change though.

I’m not a fan of this thread in general, and it should really only be posted in when someone’s changed their mind on their ranking or if a new film has been added.

Needlessly repeating your opinions on which is better or worse is tedious enough, but when you state those opinions in an inflammatory way, that’s when you’ll get called (accurately so) a troll.

If you think something is wrong you can just report. False accusations and especially name-calling is unnecessary (let alone against forum rules).

That was a description of your behavior and why you were reported.

As for the “accusation,” it was quite true and is backed up by most of your post history.

Thank you for your advice. i did think something was wrong and i did report it. I did not engage in false accusations or name-calling, so please don’t keep pulling this ‘holier than thou’ condescension on me.

I think we should all just leave it at that.

You have been asked by me in other threads to explain your opinions more fully - give reasons as to why you believe that ‘TFA is shit’ - not just state it - repeatedly…

edit: (inserted link) -http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1112521:-

The thread was temporarily locked to give posters a chance to cool down, and also for me to sift through the posts without more being added whilst doing so. The thread has now been unlocked.

imperialscum - this repeated ‘TFA is shit’ type of posting without explanation is trolling, baiting and inflammatory - and also serves to lower the quality of the site.

Your ‘excuse’ that you ‘…do not see the point of explaining the same reasons to the people who are already familiar with them whenever I want to repeat my opinion…’ does not wash - especially after you have already been asked to explain your opinion with reasons.

That you deflect your actions onto others is not cool.

That you give an ‘excuse’ that you ‘haven’t broken no rules’ is not cool - you are trolling - and despite being asked to stop this trolling you continue to do so.

Enjoy some time away from the site in the form of a cool-off temp-ban; I hope you take the time away to re-think the content of your posts, and your attitude to the other posters, and to this site overall.

To everyone else - knock it off with the name calling - whether it has taken place in this thread or other threads on this site.

If you suspect someone is trolling please report it to a moderator - thank you.
