I Just Wanted to Thank....

I'm a big fan of the Original Trilogy, and I have not been able to view a nice copy since my LD blew up in the late 1990's and I sold my collection. The Special Editons are grating and virtually impossible to watch, and the SSE 2004 versions are even worse.

But then I found this place, got some links to DVDR copies of the Original Trilogy, and as of this afternoon, had copies of Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back. Wow! What a rush, seeing these movies as they were intended, with no extraneous crap. It was simply beautiful and after the SE and SSE viewings, I had forgotten how exceptional these movies really are and the incredible level of *consistency* present in the OT. Nothing looks out of place, there are no pacing issues, and it's a seamless viewing experience.

So I'd like to say thanks to:

Those hard-working individuals who imported, converted, edited, and otherwise compiled the OT DVD copies. Great work!!!

This forum, for providing a place for like-minded movie fans to converse, and slam that senile old fart Lucas.

The guy who invented LaserDisc, as without that technology, we likely wouldn't have a high-end edition of the OT to work with.

The people, other than that simpleton Lucas, who worked tirelessly to create a killer Original Trilogy, yet have seen their work continually diminished by the meddling of that madman.

I've been lurking here for several weeks, and thought this would be a good time to chime in:

I too am glad to see so many dedicated OT fans working hard to make sure these films are preserved in the best way that they can. I recently received my 4-disc TR47 set, and I can't stop watching it. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've been watching only the widescreen '97SE versions of the films for the past 7 years, since all I have besides that is the P&S '95 versions. (So if I have to choose, I'll take widescreen over P&S any day, even with all the crappy changes!) Anyway, it was great to see these films in their original forms, and I was struck by how unnecessary the SE changes are. I expected the films to look somewhat dated, since all I'd seen was the SE for many years, but the films still looked completely amazing! (The space battle in "Jedi" still blows me away.) I'm looking forward to the versions currently being produced by MeBeJedi, Laserman & Zion. Although I generally don't condone bootlegging (I work in the film/TV industry), I feel that Mr. Lucas has left me with no other choice. Hopefully he will come to his senses one of these days.

Anyway, keep up the good work, guys!

Well, now that I have the Original Trilogy on DVD-R, my anger against that moron Lucas has subsided, and I guess I'll get back to real life. I have no illusions that Georgie will ever release the OT to compete against the reprehensible 2004 edition, but I am very thankful for the movie fans who've kept the OT version alive and allowed people like me to travel back to "a galaxy far, far away...."

Peace!

Personally, I don't think anyone should feel bad about having to buy 'bootleg' copies of the PRE Special Edition Original Trilogy - after all George Lucas himself has stated on more than one occasion that these versions no longer exist.

I wouldn't even consider tham as bootlegs.

IIRC the people who have worked hard to create the various versions of the Original Trilogy are not driving around in Ferraris or planning a trip to their condos on the 'profits' of any $ or £ they receive for the discs - and nor are they funding any global terrorism or drug empires.

They are just fans with a bit of time, determination and willingness to learn on how to give people what they want - and what they deserve.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

LOL! Well, at least you are giving me the benefit of the doubt.

Seriously, though, I'm just a married guy with two kids that has gotten the DVD-mastering bug, and loves to watch Star Wars. I remember buying it on VHS several times, and being jealous of my college buddies who had home theater set-ups and laserdisc versions back when it was still elite. SW never looked and sounded so BAD ASS!

Now that I'm older and have some money to spend, I'm able to not only go back and recreate that incredible laserdisc-viewing sensation, but I can also put it on a format that will continue on in the latest, greatest technology - as well as whatever comes next.

HD-DVD will be quite a boon - allowing non-compressed laserdisc video as it was meant to be.

BTW, you are all welcome. I hope to have a great version for all of you on BitTorrents this week.

I'm not really in the know, so could someone, um, tell me where these tr47s are or where I can find one.
