mikehbkwm’s 2006 GOUT DVD - 4K Upscale Project (Released)

^ posted with kind permission by mikehbkwm on TSWT…

An abridged description (full details and info are up on TSWT forums)

'I did very little changes to these GOUT rips. I applied ‘Sharpen’ by 10% on all three preservations along with the 4K upscale (I did crop some of the edges on the right and left side as the image was not perfectly aligned on the original release). Lastly, ST and ROTJ DVD subtitles are ‘as is’ with how they would have originally looked back in 2006 and aligned correctly on screen.

Noise reduction applied.

My goal however was to offer a 4K upscale mostly unmolested by software.

Fixed the 4:3 Letterbox to anamorphic widescreen (2.40:1).’

Info

There are based on the NTSC discs.

SW: 7.21gb mkv file.
ESB: 6.20gb mkv file.
ROTJ: 6.88gb mkv file.

Did you remove the GOUT DVD’s artifacts from the 1993 LaserDisc version?

I had a chance to watch the ANH of this . I always wondered how AI software would look used on these . Pretty impressive overall , though a bit too smooth looking and seems to strip away a lot of texture and flatten it out . I’ve noticed even Youtube seems to be doing this with almost every video I watch lately . I think adding some “realistic” grain over the top of it post process would help with it and would like to see another pass at this . Was grateful to see this project though .
