I tell you what, we better not lose this - we were robbed of a goal three minutes ago - and if we lose, we'll be bitter about it all week.

We were doing so well going into halftime, now things are falling apart. And the sad thing is it's mostly to do with bad calls from the ref.

Ever since this press release came out accusing us of 'roughness', EVERY ref has been taking the other side. I for one haven't seen a single player genuinely hurt by an Australian player.

WTF?! Simunic is still on the field and he's had two yellow cards! The ref hasn't even sent him off! So Croatia *should* be down to 9 men by now, with two of their players arguing with AND TOUCHING the ref!

Wow 4-1 I am surprised.

Kudos for Australia for getting a tie and moving to the next round. Good luck against Italy...

that japan game was a good game, man i wonder what wold have happened has brazil not gotten that goal in the final minute of the first have. that was almost like a knock out blow to the japanese.

The ref in the Aus-Croatia game had a mare - Graham Poll certainly won't be officiating any more World Cup games on that performance - missed a blatant handball in the box, missed Viduka being wrestled to the ground in the box, booked one player 3 times, sent off another for 2 bookings (deservedly) - missed several other incidents and made several puzzling decisions, also seemed the 2nd Aussie goal was offside, and then defended himself after by saying he didn't really book one player 3 times, he was booking the player who had already been twice!

Also disallowed a 3rd Aussie goal at the end - which could have been a penalty as the forward was hauled down - but instead decided to blow his whistle for fulltime! lol

So inept it is laughable.


Congrats to Ghana, Italy, Brazil and most impressively Australia for qualifying for the knockout stages.

Yeah what the hell happened at the end there? I was watching the Brazil/Japan game and ended a few minutes before the oz game so I flicked over to catch the last few minutes and saw all this commotion going on then the Ref abandoned the game. What was going on?

^ It had to be seen to be believed mate - very strange that one of the UK's top refs had a performance liek that! Suppose everyone makes mistakes, and fortunately it didn't cost Austraila in the end - god knows what would have happened if they'd gone out of the tournament - technically as Croatia played with 11 men at the time when they should have been down to 10 the game could've been replayed - and caused all sorts of probs for FIFA and the teams the involved!

Didn't last long boon

Great game - not full of action, given, but one for the purist.

Such a shame that Mexico had to go out - they're much better than the majority of the other teams that have made the last 16...

Really a shame for Mexico to lose like that. And a shame Argentina got to the next round - we hate them here because they are cheaters.

1978: The whole 1978 Argentina World Cup was a farse assembled by the dictators. Brazil didn't lose any game at all and was desquilified when Argentina, who needed to beat Peru for 6 goals, did it. The goalkeeper for Peru was Argentina-born, anyway. Brazil had to move thousand of miles inside Argentina for the games, while Argentina played almost in the same place always.

1986: Maradonna scored two non-valid goals, including one with his hand (the famous "Mano de Dios").

1990: Argentina poisoned the brazillian player's water bottles for their match against Brazil. After years of denial, Maradonna and other members of the argentinean team confirmed this.

1994: Maradonna was caught on the dopping exam.

They usually play very dirty. Injure oponnents when the referee is not watching, simulate faults and injuries for their benefit, stall the game, throw several balls into the field to stop the plays (like they did today).

yeah. I find it very irritatin that MANO DE DIOS seems to be sth to be proud of. If I had a say in the FIFA I would definetly do sth about cheaters, even if they are discovered years after that. Sport is about challenge, companionship, fairness, training, nerves, virtue and honour, not about cheating. I dispise cheaters and cheating.

Yeah, I have to say, Australia has been on the back-end of the worst calls in the World Cup so far. I think it's because the Japanese accused us of playing too rough BEFORE their match against us! Cue all the dives and fake injuries and we had a 'game' punctuated by penalties at every stop.

If the referees don't pick up their game, I don't see us standing any chance of progressing past Italy...

From a neutral's position - I don't think Oz has been on the end of the worse decisions.

South Korea (v Switzerland) and USA (v Italy) have suffered far harsher decisions that ultimately cost the teams progression through to the next stages.
