Who has caved? — Page 6

Thanks for the welcome!

Man, Lucas makes me angry. I found an old copy of "Star Wars: Insider" magazine and people wrote in with excitement and hope for the prequels.

I didn't think it would become the revisionist nightmare we have today regarding the OT.

I still haven't caved yet. I will not buy the DVD's and will not see Episode III in the theater. I plan to see Episode III when it comes out on DVD on November 8th as a rental.

I am the anti-Lucas. He can be a big SOB about never releasing the Original Versions and I can be a big SOB for not contributing to the success of Episode III. I know it will make 100's of millions, but my money will not be included.

Fine, mister Lucas, while you're at it why dont you replace Lando with will smith?

Number 1 for me. I rented them to be able to watch the changes and judge them fairly, and that just turned me MORE against them.

Well, I caved to some degree. No, I didn't buy or watch the OT DVDs. However, I did buy Eps 1 & 2 on DVD today. There were only $9.79 each at Circuit City. Couldn't say no. Sorry if I disappointed you all. But I'll finally be able to see TPM again and rejudge it based on all the discussion here.

I would have waited since he plans to release all 6 films together in one set with deleted scenes from Episodes IV-VI that supposedly nobody has ever scene before. It would be nice if he would release all of the scenes from the Original Versions that were changed in 97 and 04 on a separate disc remastered. That is what Paramount did on Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Yeah, except for the fact that unless the six disc has the original cuts of the OT on them, I'm not bothering. I generally only watch deleted scenes once unless they are spliced into the fabric of the film. And, at under $10 a piece, I'm not really losing much.

I didn't know the prequels were included in this discussion. I have TPM on widescreen VHS twice(bought a set new, and bought a used lone tape when my main VCR decided it didn't like the film), got my mom to buy me the DVD(why I don't know, I've not watched most of the extras), and got AOTC for 10 bucks the weekend it was released thanks to a foolishly advertised Toys R Us sale that Circuit City honored.

Technically, they aren't. I just needed to admit to everyone that I did buy them this weekend and this seemed as good a place as any. Sorry to take it off topic.

This is supposed to just be the OT on DVD. Sorry again.

But at least you saw one of them. Albeit a bit small. But you saw it. Many people here have never seen the originals.

You do have a point. I would like to still have that tape though(certain curcumstances made it so that I can never see that tape again and, when I had the tape many things were going on in my life that I barely could ever see it. I think that I saw it all the way through mabye three times[if that].).

I haven't bought the DVD set; still holding strong!

But...it's become rather tempting as time goes on...

As i'm still somewhat new to the forum I thought I might as well declare my state:

I am anti-Lucas to the nth degree.

Never caving.
Never buying the 'prewankquels'.
Never watching EPIII.

I gave the DVDs to a friend for his birthday. I felt like saying, "how could I be so incredibly stupid?" after I bought them. Anyway, the burden is gone.

I have them , I got them when they came out.
I have the Original cuts on Full frame and wide screen, I have the Special Editions in three different box sets, and the DVD's. I think it's fair enough for a director to want to change his original vision as time goes by, however I also think the originals should be made available to people on DVD as well.

It's kinda funny because this is kinda how I thought it would be. I really expected myself to start to slowly break down. It is Star Wars, after all. But I haven't. I don't even look longingly at the box set in stores. To be honest, I've never even picked the box up off the shelves. This is a level of resolve I've never before seen in myself. I'm proud of me.

this is kinda how i was/am when i stopped collecting the figures. though Admitedly i still get urges now and then. I've been on the fence about getting jut the first wave of episode III figures, I probably will, only thing thats stopped me so far is how many there are and what it will cost me that and I dont feel like tracking them all down to make sure I get the whole wave. Tempted to just buy the 'wave packs' that some online retailers sell (the sw.com store included)

Heh, I haven't touched them, not really because of the same reasons as you guys though. I just said to myself, "In a year, there will be a box set of all six movies, and it will probably have some good stuff in it too."
Sure enough, there is, so that's what I'll be getting.

I've weened (sp?) two more of my friends away from buying the official DVDs. Once I told them about the changes, they wanted nothing to do with them. I'm so proud of myself.

Still haven't bought em or rented em and I don't plan to. My VHS copies still work fine, but eventually I may need to get some sort of DVD version.

^ Dave - I'd recommend looking at the ADigitalMan's Edits in the Preservation & Fan Edit forum - they are a 2004dvd release that has been seSE'd...

The picture, sound and editing quality is of a very high standard - and what is more it views as Original Trilogy we know and grew up with (most of us over 30 anyway )

There is also 2 (so far) Prequel Trilogy Edits from ADM - well worth seeing as these versions - like MagnoliaFan's Edits) are far more enjoyable and in keeping withe the OT than the official GL releases...
