One man’s trash…
This thread is the biggest trash heap going, but a few dumb jokes woah that’s going too far.
Hahahaha!
Since being out of the loop, any TLDR what the GIF depicted?
Guys wearing Stormtrooper/Vader helmets pretending the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit is their dick and ‘masturbating’ it.

Oh, I recall a joke like that with a action figure of some droid or something. Ain’t appropriate for a forum that’s for sure. Doesn’t matter if it’s hilarious in the context of one of their videos considering NFSW content isn’t allowed if I’m correct.
jason removed them.
No simulated droid or Porg humping. (I can’t believe I have to say that.) We’re not some chan board. Show a little discretion and some class.
Where were you in '77?

Really? I thought that was a droid. The resolution was pretty bad though.

Maybe it was, I didn’t spend much time analyzing it 😉

It’s a droid. And I unabashedly find it hilarious in context of the video. As a GIF popping up on a forum out of the blue? Not so much.
Sorry. I forgot that nobody in this forum has a sense of humor.

Dude, it is not funny as a GIF. I mean yeah, people shouldn’t get so personally offended over something like it but it is clearly not in the forum rules or acceptable. And I find it funny in the context of the video too so it ain’t like I am trying to be against ya here.

That wasn’t aimed at you, but you’re right. It is funnier in context.
Sorry. I forgot that nobody in this forum has the sense of humor of a twelve-year-old.
Fixed.
I was going to say that but due to my age I kind of felt it’d be hypocritical.

Nah you’re good. Also apologies to all the mature twelve-year-olds out there.
Honestly, this is what I get for thinking the film has generated some interesting and lengthy discussions on the core mythology and what we all expect. Instead, I log in and the last two pages are more RLM-generated crap, a juvenile GIF, the poster having to be called out by two moderators while having content removed, and then continuing to add to the din with criticisms directed at anyone who doesn’t get it.
God I love this thread.

An essay written by JGL on Luke Skywalker - worth reading. Even though we ultimately disagree, he clarifies some great points already presented in this thread several times, and he does acknowledge that those who didn’t like the movie aren’t entirely wrong on Luke’s characterization or the movie itself.
If already posted, forgive me.
Quality article that - enjoyed reading it - nice one.

Hi All, I’ve only posted a few times on these threads (despite being a constant lurker since 2006) but thought it’s time I threw my hat into the fray.
Just an observation more than anything I guess, but do you think the late release of the novelisation may have contributed to the divisive reaction to TLJ?
Previously you could always go to the book if you were unsure about a character’s motivation or a plot point. It would generally provide an extra insight that would help to process what at first may have felt a little jarring.
Don’t know, would love to hear your thoughts though.

I’d be curious to know if the books do affect opinions of the movies. I’d imagine any effect is quite small. But maybe there is a correlation between people who are into reading the novelizations and who like the movie. I don’t read novelizations.

Underneath the JGL article is this even better (IMO) article on the writing of TLJ. This one pretty well sums up why the Holdo plot was a mess…

Agree. Really insightful take on the journey - Luke’s in-universe as well as actual. I’ve tried to make that same point many times here as well as an Indiana Jones board I lurked on many years ago. It’s very hard to explain to twenty-year-olds how different things will be 40 years from now.
When you have no framework for what four decades even feels like, you can’t possibly grasp how the journey changes you. So many things that seem of major importance to you at 20 will be long forgotten when you’re 60.
Forty years on from that summer long ago, I’m not even similar to who I was at 15. I would have been disappointed if all we got was ROTJ Luke with a beard. I may have done a scene or two a little differently, but I have no problem with Luke having changed since he was a farm boy.
It’s interesting that one of the things most polarizing about the film is also one of the things they handled so well. It says more about the audience than it does about the movie.
