Looks really fantastic!!!
Looks really fantastic!!!
New comp:
Had to replace the explosion, background, and left X-wing.

New comp looks great, much nicer colours and spark pattern.
The only thing I would say is lost though, is the x-wing wreckage and the way it interacts with the explosion as it spins out of control
Vert nicely done - that really does look impressive. Kudos to you TGWNN 👍

Here’s a higher quality comp of a previously finished shot (with a few adjustments).

Little progress report:
I’m about 60% done with DevEd V.2. I found a hard drive with a bunch of master renders of effects shots I did on my old stolen computer; they were unnamed (my fault), but it made things much easier—not having to re-do most of these shots. The majority of what’s left is re-painting the lasers and lightsabers, as well as some recompositing work. I’m not gonna give a release date, but it’s gonna be here sooner than we expected.

I have been eagerly looking for this for a long time.
I think a few months back you were going to have Vader’s fighter light speed away after getting shot by the Falcon. Is that still accurate?

Yup. Still there.

The first finished sequence of V.2 is coming tomorrow, 4/27.
Stay tuned.

can’t wait!
Sorry about the delay. Got sick last few days. will render soon.
-TGWNN
Hey, again apologies for the delay, I just restarted work on rendering the sequence, should be ready soon.
In the meantime, here’s another finished shot to hold you over until then…

I changed the Tie Fighter flight path to match the previous shot and replaced the explosion with a higher quality re-colored source.

This is a call for help or advice:
There is a continuity error during the last battle after Obi-Wan is killed and Luke is firing his blaster like a madman… Han tells him to lock the door, and he shoots the door panel- fine.
The problem is that once we cut to insert the door panel, it is a completely different version, and it seems to be a zoomed-in version of a previous explosion during the Cellblock ambush. Using visual reference, I’ve constructed the door panel (which there is no example of online) using simple shapes. I need someone to create a 3D model of not only the panel but the wall so that I can comp in an explosion. If anyone has any experience with 3D modeling, that would be very helpful. Other advice or ideas are also welcome.

Here’s what I have so far, banged out relatively quickly:
Any pointers or things I should add/tweak?
I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.

Hey everyone, quick question… for the Greedo sequence, do you prefer the subtitles to fade in and out, or just to end?
-TGWNN
I prefer alien subtitles to just pop in and out without fading. And that door explosion looks fantastic!! Great work!
It’s done:

Re-did the Falcon shot without all that stupid added grain. I don’t know what I was thinking putting a layer of grain over the already over-grained Blu-ray:

For some reason the original hard pop-out method is easier on the eyes. When I added some titles to my cut of Jedi, I was surprised that the original titles didn’t fade, but after trying it both ways, the hard cut felt so much better.

I love it! Your timing on the hit effect is so flippin’ crisp, and the CG work is SUBERB!
This is teeny-tiny niggle from an animator who has composited WAY too many blast effects - you might wanna adjust the opacity/blending mode of the smoke effect that is sitting over the sparkler to better match the wide shot. I used to composite blasts the way you’ve got it now, but after doing a million of them, I switched the way I layered/masked them and the results were much better.
You don’t need to change what you’ve got, I’m the only one on Planet Earth who will notice, lol! But if you composited the effect in AE, I’d be happy to take a quick look at it. Bottom line, this is amazing work!!!
