Star Trek DS9

I get the feeling there are a few fans around here. I've been watching Season 2 on DVD. A few slow episodes but overall this is the season that got the ball rolling.

Adding Worf in season 4(?)was probably good for viewers but I thought rehashing the Klingon stuff was a bad idea. Did we really need to see him outcast again. But I did like the addition of General Martok.

I always wondered why the Borg never showed up besides in the pilot.

I've read the books that came out since the show was cancelled overall pretty good. I highly recommend Avatar and Rising Son. I just got Warchild the other day. Hope it makes sense since I skipped The Worlds of DS9 books.

I do have to say that Garek is my favorite character.

There's a few 'Niners and Trek fans on here - somewhere on here... honest! lol

I can only recommend you get the excellent DS9 Companion book (if you've not got it already) - full of insights and rare pics, an episode guide, and how the people who made the show truely felt about certain episodes - good and bad.

A very intriguing read... and will give you answers as to why the Klingons featured so heavily in season 4.

Prsonally, I'm glad the Borg never showed up on DS9 - they were a TNG 'baddie', and used well for that series - and found the Dominion storylines were a lot more interesting all round.

I bought the first three seasons of TNG recently and am working my way through those. I thought about buying DS9, but I decided to wait until I got to the point in the TNG timeline that DS9 came about. I thought watching them concurrently would be a good way to go about it, otherwise plotlines/spoilers would likely be a problem (I only caught the first 4 seasons of DS9 back in the day, and in watching just the first season of TNG, I've found I missed a fair amount of episodes from that series as well).

I have fond memories of DS9 and always considered it a strong series. I'm looking forward to checking it out.

I grew up a huge Trek fan, in pretty much all it's incarnations save Voyager and all but the last season of Enterprise. I thought at the time that DS9 was the best of the spin-offs.

However, I've become quite jaded about the Trek spinoffs since I started watching the new Battlestar Galactica. I realize now what the spinoffs could have been had they been in someone else's hands. The formula of: Earth's a utopia because everyone lets the Federation run their lives and gave up their material posessions to the collective good, combined with the "reset button" ending where none of the characters grew or changed (was it REALLY necessary to bring in Ezri Dax), the ENDLESS techno-babble, the BS plot device of the holo-decks (how many times can the safety protocols fail before there's a recall???), the equivocation....really screwed the show, IMO. I usually won't watch the shows unless I'm really desperate.

Hopefully when it comes back in 10 years or so they'll give it to Manny Coto, who did the last season of Enterprise, or J. Michael Straczynski, who did Babylon 5.

Oh yeah, and no matter how much I'm down on the franchise right now, IMO Garak was the best character except maybe Worf and Data in any of the spinoffs.

Have just finished putting every episode of all 7 seasons of DS9 onto 7 dvd discs - which all fit nicely into one dvd case about the same size as one vhs tape

DivX really does save space

Just don't know what to do with all my old vhs tapes of the series - they take up SO much room, but would be sad to get rid of them...

Meh, I like DS9 and all, but to me its all a bit bland after a while.

*bump*

Been watching this on my DVR recently. Discovered I REALLY missed it. I haven't watched it for quite some time, and I'd forgotten how good it really was, especially in light of the other spinoffs. I still believe that at times it suffered from the problems that killed the franchise, but man the Dominion story line is just awesome.

Star Trek Deep Soap 90210! In all seriousness, I've seen very little of DS9, so I can't comment. As I understand it, it really kicked into high gear when TNG ended and Worf came aboard. But this is all heresay.
