Hi everyone,
Here is a thread about my upcoming fanedit project called “Rebel Moon - The Third Cut”.
Using director’s cuts of the original movies, the main goal of this project is to combine them into a single movie with a faster pacing. Only essential scenes to the main plot are preserved and repetitive sides of the story are cut.
To give you a few examples :

Movie is now beginning with Kora’s childhood in the Mother World. That means the exclusive intro scene from the director’s cut is cut, as well as the Kora / Gunnar scene that was introducing the flashback.

The opening flashback is also faster. I got rid of the Mother World rules for Kora to get a husband and have children, since her so-called husband is dying in the next seconds.

Exposition scenes on Veldt including Kora farming, Sindri’s scenes talking during night and sex scenes are cut. Kora’s flashback scene is followed directly with people of Veldt farming and noticing a ship in the sky. You also get to know differently why Kora was hiding on Veldt because previous over-explaining scenes are also cut.

Most of the footage not including Kora or not referring to the main plot is cut. No more James introspection scenes. His appearence during the last fight from the second movie will be more impactful. No more love story between Sam and Sky. Kora’s original ship is already repaired but hiding from the farmers.

Kora’s quest to find a team is also faster.

Whole sequence on Levitica is slightly faster. Exposition scenes are cut.

Ending of the original first movie is now seamless with the opening of the second movie. Repetitive scenes are now cut.

Other Kora’s flashback are also shortened. No need to see her begin as Princess Issa’s personal guard because we understand it during the last flashback scene.

Love scene between Kora and Gunnar is slightly shortened.

The biggest point : no more table scene and flashbacks for secondary characters. Kora’s quest to find them is already long so their backstories are unecessary to the main plot.

Second movie’s final battle is almost intact at the moment but I’ll surely cut it for faster pacing.
The first cut is actually running 3h30 and I’m still working on it. Everything from the first movie is holding really well that way. I’d love to bring down parts from the second movie to get close to a 3h10 cut without ending credits but it will depend on a lot of things.
I’m working on 4K HDR copies of the Director’s cuts converted to SDR for an easier work.
Rebel Moon - The Third Cut will include original audios in English and Truefrench in FLAC 5.1 16/48 and AC-3 5.1 16/48.
