Info Wanted: Do I need to do an OT preservation dvd?

After reading the messages on the various preservation projects. I’m looking at my own. I haven’t started anything yet but shelled out about 80 bucks for a laser disc player and the definitive collection laser discs. I’m almost wondering if I should do this at all. Maybe I should just get one of your copies and make do with that. It’s disheartening to think I came in late doing my own (and I haven’t even started yet).

I guess it would be a good idea to do a direct copy to dvd so I can have it to watch at least. No need to get special with it.

I was mostly thinking if I ended up doing something like this, i’d take the original version and fix things that I thought should have been fixed with the SE’s. Just the general removing garbage mattes, matte lines. And doing stuff that makes the not so great looking stuff look great. At least great as I can get with a cheap ld player and the definitive edition.

Your 2 cents (or tuppence if you happen to be British) ?

There are a LOT of differing versions on here - but don't let that deter you from doing your own set.

A wealth of information on all aspects of creating a dvd set from the laserdiscs is floating around here and the lads who do them are more than happy to take questions and give tips.

It may be an idea to get hold of a couple of the sets that take your interest to see the quality and give you ideas on what has been done.

If you're a Brit then I'd recommend getting a PAL set (ie Moth3r's OT set), although all the others play fine too.

Good luck...

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

I considered doing the conversions about 2 years ago with the Definitive Collection, I abandoned the projects mainly because I didn't have the time, or resources to give it the detail and effort it was due.

Since then, I've found that there are so many great and more technically knowledgeable people on this site putting their efforts into these movies (with great results) that I decided to put my spare time and effort into doing my own edits of the prequels.

No disrespect to any of the other great versions out there, but from what i've seen I have highest hopes for the X0 project, weither or not, i'll ever get to see it.

I'd say that if you have the time to dedicate, and the passion to go through the effort....go for it.
