Lol Trey Gowdy.
So I know Rome is burning and all, but does it make me a bad person if I giggle a little bit every time I see a headline that says something about Trump taking on the leakers? I guess he’s concerned they may show people who Number One works for.
The good news about this whole Mensch/Taylor thing is that either they found something huge or we’ll never hear any more predictions from them again. Their entire credibility is riding on this call.

I don’t think Louise Mensch has much credibility to begin with mate - though on this occasion, I hope she is proven correct.
(and I’d still like to not hear from her again either way 😉)

So this is the second time you’ve done this when I showed my support for Trey Gowdy. Do you have particular issues with Trey Gowdy that you’d like to share? I’d be interested to hear your take on him.

Yeah, we have enough fact-free sources in this thread without bringing Mensch into the mix. The less we hear from that front, the better.

Don’t go there. Louise Mensch is to Bernie fans as Zerohedge is to Trump fans. Storylines their audience wants to believe so much they ignore the shoddy “journalism” behind them. It’s speculative fiction at best. And if one of her “scoops” turns out by sheer coincidence to be true, she’ll be vindicated–rather than just having proved the stopped clock twice a day metaphor.
It’d be nice to think the right had a monopoly on this sort of thing, but they don’t. We have our share of cranks on the left too, they’re just not as well-funded.

I probably shouldn’t have brought it up at all, honestly, because as oojason said their credibility is pretty much on par with Baba Vanga and Nostradamus, but basically they’re saying that there are sealed indictments against Trump and several of his cabinet based on “sources.”
My intent wasn’t to frame it as true, but more just to express happiness that their crazy conspiracy theory predictions could soon be over with, one way or the other.

U.S. House committee chairman asks Justice Department to prosecute Platte River Network’s CEO.
Texas congressman says Treve Suazo failed to produce documents, made false statements in Hillary Clinton server inquiry.

I would like to see this happen. If accountability means anything in politics or this country they will do what needs doing.

I think he was rooting for WE to take the semi-finalist position in the League of Legends qualifiers happening right now.
He’ll be glad to know that they smashed SKT earlier today, who won the championship last year, so they’re looking like a big mover this year.

Oh hey look, something that hasn’t changed in the Trump era - Republicans looking for ways to be cruel to poor people.
The Trump administration has not yet set up a promised White House hotline for veterans’ complaints nearly four months after President Trump took office, the Military Times reported.
Trump promised that the private hotline would be “devoted to answering veterans’ complaints of wrongdoing at the [Department of Veterans Affairs] and ensure no complaints fall through the cracks.”
The hotline was to be “active 24 hours a day answered by a real person."
“This could keep me very busy at night, folks,” Trump said during a July 26 rally. “This will take the place of Twitter.”
White House officials told the Military Times they have no updates on when or whether the hotline will be established, while VA officials did not respond to requests for comment.
The hotline was included in Trump’s 10-point plan to help veterans, which was recently removed from Trump’s campaign website.
I assume Trump meant to type “wee”. Because he’s into that apparently.

Words, partial sentences, and tidbits in this article that tell the story.
Republicans are considering
The proposal, which would be part of the House Budget Committee’s fiscal 2018
won’t specify which programs would get the ax; instead it will instruct committees to figure out what to cut to reach the savings.
most likely on the chopping block, the sources say,
and perhaps even veterans benefits.
If enacted,
will also likely include
that proposal is more symbolic and won’t become law under this budget,
reductions could become “very tough issues”
New spending, however, makes already tough math even trickier
“There are ways that we cannot only allow the president to keep his promise, but to help him keep his promise by fixing some of these mandatory programs.”
Final details of the GOP’s budget plan aren’t expected until June,
specific language mandating the mandatory cuts still hasn’t been written
tax reform, which “is complex enough on its own,”
Asked about mandatory programs that might be cut,
When so many of the entitlement programs are taken off the table for discussion … that limits our ability to fund the nondefense discretionary programs and other mandatory programs that affect a lot of people.”
moderates have voted for GOP budgets that included similar cuts in the past — so they should be able to support them again.
But if House GOP leadership has learned anything from the Obamacare repeal debacle, it should be that voting for something that has no chance of becoming law and makes for great campaign fodder is much easier than backing a bill that could be enacted.

I’m no longer a Republican, but still identify as conservative. While there is no doubt that Republicans are generally less educated than Democrats, there seems to be an overly-simplistic assumption on the part of many liberals that Republicans are, by and large, a bunch of dumb hicks. More generally, there is a consensus that, by virtue of having more education, liberals are automatically right about all policies where the two sides of the spectrum differ. I even saw an inspiring comment from a liberal here saying that liberals should not be so condescending to conservatives, yet still acknowledging that liberalism is always right.
The above article actually demonstrates that Republicans are more likely to know where North Korea is and favor less militaristic solutions to the complex situation there. Also associated with these items was higher education. My point to this is that there are intelligent, level-headed people on the Right. Yes, we’ve got a large basket of Trump-voting nutjobs who refuse to see anything he says or does as bad, but we also have people who are well educated and favor diplomacy. Don’t overgeneralize.
I should clarify that 90% of the time when I refer to “Republicans” I’m referring to politicians, rather than ordinary citizens that belong to the party or adhere to most of their beliefs.
What.
Victory for democracy.

The Supreme Court will not consider reinstating North Carolina’s 2013 voting law that a lower court ruled discriminated against African American voters, the justices said Monday.
A unanimous panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit had found in 2016 that North Carolina legislators had acted “with almost surgical precision” to blunt the influence of African American voters.
Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. took pains to note that the court’s decision did not reach the merits of the case, but Democrats, civil rights groups and minority groups celebrated the demise of the law. It was one of numerous voting rights changes passed by Republican-led legislatures in the wake of the Supreme Court’s 2013 decision striking down a key section of the Voting Rights Act that effectively removed federal oversight of states with a history of discrimination.
refuse to see anything he sure as bad
but we also have people who are well educated
