North Korea isn’t going to launch an ICBM at anyone. We can stop the silly talk.

They want ICBMs as a deterrent against invasion. The U.S. got Iraq and Libya to give up their nuclear weapons programs, and as soon as they did, Saddam and Ghadafi were overthrown by Allied forces and quickly executed.

Another example of how bad foreign policy mistakes can continue to domino for years and years to come.

There are plenty of reasons to loathe Trumpy without making crap up.

If he backs up his words, and takes some positive decisive action to rid the world of a fiend who uses chemical weapons on innocent people, I will applaud him for it.

So said the people who thought W. was justified for going into Iraq. And how long did we have people over there? Oh wait, we still do.

Ridding the world of the North Korean Kim dynasty doesn’t mean Korea will suddenly become a peaceful democratic state.

Well, if there’s a better way to keep them from perfecting an ICBM capable of reaching the west coast of the U.S., I’d love to hear it?

To quote an old Vulcan proverb: Only Nixon could go to China.

I believe economic sanctions and political pressure from not-just-the-US are currently preventing it. Not to mention we probably have the capability of shooting them out of the sky. Seriously, we worried for decades about Russia throwing things at us. I would imagine we are somewhat prepared for a missile strike. Not to mention we have an orbital satellite network that Korea does not have that would give us advance warning.

Russia wasn’t ruled by an overgrown brat though.

We had the capability to shoot down SCUD missiles fired during the first Gulf War, but a few still got through.

Where were you in '77?

The Pacific Ocean is very, VERY large. We’re not talking about Iraq shooting at neighboring Israel here.

I personally think that to worry about Korea bombing the Western United States is to grossly underestimate our military preparedness, especially when we’ve faced such a threat before and have vastly superior real-time surveillance assets. The reason why the World Trade Center attack was successful was in part because civilian aircraft were used. A large missile is much more conspicuous and easier to spot, especially given that we’re constantly looking for it.

Well, yes. Part of Japan’s unconditional surrender at the end of World War II was to force them to completely, permanently disband their military. It’s written in their Constitution that they can have peacekeeping defense forces and that’s it.

But the US does also have multiple Air Force bases in Japan (we have bases everywhere, really). Their country is not exactly defenseless.

Geopolitics change. The U.S. wants Japan to re-militarize now.

  1. spread the cost of defense to Japan
  2. use Japan as a military ally against China

Abe and his party are pretty ugly war mongers too. I much prefer peaceful, pacifist Japan.

So, Trump haters, I’m guessing you have proof that Trump ordered Assad/Syria to use nerve agents against his own people now like how Assad did during the Obama Administration? Is this proof of the Russian collusion theory you all hold like a bible to your chest? Innocent people died and I am very interested to see how some of you are going to automatically link this to the Trump Administration.

To be honest, what you wrote there comes across as you are using the deaths of those poor innocent people to try and score political points on an internet message board.

You are better than that mate.

There would be no reason for me to want political points on this forum or any other. Shame on anyone that might suggest I was using the death of innocent people for benefits of any kind. To be honest, I’m really tired of those who hate Trump and the people who support him saying they are better. Trump said some poignant stuff in this news report and not a single person here who chastises him and supporters will bother to acknowledge it as such.

That was my point and I could see how you might get the impression you did considering all the echo chamber repetition that gets posted in this thread.

No, your words led me to write what I did. Just your words there - no echo chamber repetition.

The only ‘shame’ is what you wrote.

Do you really expect some people on here who have been critical of Trump, opponents of Trump, or many people at all, to acknowledge some ‘poignant stuff in this news report’ he said after reading your words here:-

It is inflammatory, baiting, and without basis in fact.

And you certainly did use the deaths of innocent people to try and score some political points on here - you linked those innocent deaths to a perceived forthcoming criticism of the Trump Administration.

Your words.

They stand for themselves.

Unfortunately they are likely to do you, your views - and others with similar views - no favours at all.

False equivalence for sure, but expecting us to cheer Trump for a few platitudes would be like expecting us to cheer a murderer for sending flowers to the victim’s family.

Trump is a buffoon. A scammer. A con-artist. A hatemonger. A bigot. A fraud. A liar. An idiot. A moron. He is all of those things, and a lot more.

But he hasn’t killed anyone, so don’t discredit yourself by making outrageous comparisons that are pure nonsense.

But here’s a better comparison just to make you happy.

The Bannon thing gets more complicated.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/bannon-resign-mercer-trump-236939

The man credited with honing Donald Trump’s populist message and guiding him into the White House has grown frustrated amid continued infighting in the West Wing, so much so that in recent weeks a top donor had to convince him to stay in his position.

Five people, including a senior administration official and several sources close to the president, tell POLITICO that Bannon, one of Trump’s closest advisers, has clashed with the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who’s taken on an increasingly prominent portfolio in the West Wing. Bannon has complained that Kushner and his allies are trying to undermine his populist approach, the sources said.

Republican mega-donor Rebekah Mercer, a longtime Bannon confidante who became a prominent Trump supporter during the campaign, urged Bannon not to resign. “Rebekah Mercer prevailed upon him to stay,” said one person familiar with the situation.

Another person familiar with the situation, a GOP operative who talks to Mercer, said: “Bekah tried to convince him that this is a long-term play.”

Whoa!

JEDIT: He said “temporarily.”

http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/06/politics/devin-nunes-stepping-aside-russia-intelligence-committee/

House intelligence chairman Devin Nunes announced Thursday he was temporarily stepping aside from leading the investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 elections.

Nunes cited a series of ethics complaints filed against him alleging that he violated terms of discussing classified material following his clandestine meeting at the White House just over two weeks ago.

“I believe it is in the best interests of the House Intelligence Committee and the Congress for me to have Representative Mike Conaway, with assistance from Representatives Trey Gowdy and Tom Rooney, temporarily take charge of the Committee’s Russia investigation while the House Ethics Committee looks into this matter,” Nunes, a California Republican, said in a statement.

He added, “I will continue to fulfill all my other responsibilities as Committee Chairman, and I am requesting to speak to the Ethics Committee at the earliest possible opportunity in order to expedite the dismissal of these false claims.”

My words came off harsh, I agree, and I apologize.

The sad thing is, we have folks that don’t believe people can change so they spread such nonsense to try and show they’re better, while their nonsense shows they don’t change either. How can anyone take them seriously when they don’t practice the beliefs they assign to others?

Maybe that is where humor lies and truth dies.

Jetrell, this is not simply a Trump-bashing thread. People here really do have legitimate grievances with him.

While you accuse others of being blinded by their own spite, I think you are similarly unwilling to accept the possibility that their perception of him as a bigoted used-car-saleman might have objective merit and dismiss any evidence to support that position.

You might want change in Washington, but Trump is very much not the answer.

I don’t like Trump. I am not a Trump supporter. What I am willing to do is at least give him a chance to try and back up what he said he’d do. I would have given Hillary Clinton the same chance had she won. My point was basically … being as nasty to him as people say he is doesn’t solve a thing, proof or not, we all know what’s out there it’s no secret. The problem lies in the fact that both parties are horrible. So why bash only one, because some find it pleasurable and beneficial or because they just can’t admit that their own side sucks just as bad and has as many crappy people in it that the other one does?

There is just far too much “confirmation bias” than fact in this thread and that certainly does not equal a debate for either side.

I doubt it. The idea of protecting minorities of elected representatives is a little anachronistic, when the more modern idea of designing the election process to ensure the correct minority of voters chooses the majority of the elected representatives allows you to more than just block the majority, but impose outright minority rule.
