Avoidance does not necessarily equal self censorship. It’s not just the words or topics themselves, it’s how you use them or talk about them.
Treating people with respect is not the explicit definition, but it is the underlining goal.
In the proper context, people will understand and not be offended by words and phrases that will most certainly cause offense if used in disparaging contexts.
For example, there are many “okay” ways to use the word “retard.” PC doesn’t advocate removing it from the dictionary. But if you use it to describe a stupid person, yeah sure that’s offensive. If you think that’s terrible self-censorship, then well I don’t know what to say - we just strongly disagree.
What if the person that I’m talking to isn’t offended by that?

I don’t get how this is somehow an indictment of everything he’s done, but he’s not necessarily wrong. The big mainstream exposure that he got on Maher’s show really kicked off his disastrous week.

It’s not an indictment of everything he’s done, it’s just one example of how I can’t take him seriously.
And he is wrong. If the only thing that happened that week was Milo going on Maher’s show, you really think he would have lost a book deal, kicked out of a conference, and fired from his job? That was all the pedophilia videos. And if he never went on Maher’s show, the pedophilia videos still would have done him in. Maher had zero to do with it.

It’s a little bit of the former, but mostly the latter. I wouldn’t find it sickening if it were offensive, but since it wasn’t I think it’s BS that they pulled their product.
