Other SW DVD releases- expected by year's end

Author
Time
I didn't see a thread about this, so I thought I'd post about it.

According to what I've seen on tf.n and thedigitalbits.com, we will see 3 SW collections and 2 SW movies coming soon.
One collection is the Clone Wars, but we knew about that one.

The other stuff is 2 sets containing the Droids and Ewoks cartoons from 85-86 and the 2 made-for-TV movies, Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor.

Thoughts:
- Being the fan I am, I'm willing to shell out for all this stuff.
---The droid cartoon, for whatever reason, I never saw, so it will be new to me (even if it was so bad it only lasted a season)
---Ewoks, I recall only a tiny bit of (the episode with the Battle Wagon, and how it had a single pin that, when pulled would destroy the whole thing).
---The 2 movies I remember more of.

Worries:
- I know Lucas is busy with the movie and such, but should we fear that he makes changes to the 2 Ewoks movies?? After all, he said he would wait to put the original trilogy on DVD until after EP3 so he could devote more time to it, and we know that didn't happen.
What could he do?? I don't know, but I wouldn't put it past Lucas to do it.

Actually, the Clone Wars stuff isn't expected until Spring 2005 as per the Sansweet announcement at the Con.

I'll shill out for Clone Wars. Droids and Ewoks are not something I really care about.

Well, with all of this stuff slated for release on DVD, the question on everyone's mind is WHERE is the Holiday Special?!? Wink, wink. Nudge , nudge.

I think this R2 unit has a bad motivator

Bossk, LMAO! You're probably right. I haven't had my yearly maintenance check.

On the serious side. I haven't seen any of this stuff, but I might be tempted to buy it anyway. Just because it's Star Wars. Were the Droids cartoons any good? I've heard mixed things.

I just hope that if they release Ewoks and Droids that tey'll be in their original form. A couple years ago they released a a video each for Droids and Ewoks, and they had new music and foley. It was awful. I have no idea why they felt the need to redub all the music and sound effects, but it was a bad idea. Not to mention the droid theme song ruled, it was the whole reason I bought the tape to begin with

Droids lasted 15 episodes, from Sept. 1985 to Nov. 1985, with the last 2 episodes showing later, in June of 1986.
I haven't, as yet, found anything about how good or bad they were.

Ewoks made 35 episodes, from Sept. 1985 to Jan. 1987.
Again, nothing about how good or bad they were, but one thing I read the person compared it to the Smurfs.

The Ewok Adventure (Caravan of Courage) was a direct-to-TV movie shown in 1984 (I think I heard it was on CBS, but I'm probably wrong about that).
817 voters at the IMDB give it an average rating of 5.1 stars out of 10.

The Battle for Endor was also direct to TV, in 1985.
815 voters at the IMDB also give it an average of 5.1 out of 10.

THIS IS AWESOME!!

I have them all on DVDr (except the ewoks toon ) and I can't wait for REAL offical DVD's!!!!

JUST a note - I will NO LONGER Trade or Duplicate these DVDr's once the news IS OFFICAL from Lucas film (as in a DVD release date!) - THE only way that I will continue to trade them AFTER the Oficial release is if he does the George Lucas thing and tries "To make them better"

Droids tells the story of 3PO and R2 in the time after EP3 and before EP4, when they were owned by a bunch of other people not affiliated with the Alliance.

Honestly, why can't Lucas own up to it? I've watched bits and pieces, and it may be exceptionally cheesy, but it can't be a nightmarish piece of television history like everyone's making it out to be--it's got to provide enough laughs just by making fun of it the whole time. Anyway, I should be getting my copy of the Special from Rikter any day now, along with the Clone Wars episodes, and I'm really hoping that they don't release the third season on DVD before I can get them from Rikter as well, because I really don't respect how Lucas handled the presenting of the episodes of the CW (you know, making them Hyperspace-only very shortly after their appearance on TV; I never got to finish watching the second season ).

I am excited about Clone Wars. I have no intrest in Ewoks. Though I have never seen it I am no ewok fan. It disturbs me fans are able to accept these cutsy annoying bears and yet critize the cutsy prequel characters. Droids I have also never seen. While I am a fan of those droids a show about them just isn't appealing. I would be intrested in seeing all these if there is a way to without forking up the cash. With Clone Wars I am getting that on the day. In my opinion the Clone Wars cartoons are better then The Phantom Menace and Return of the Jedi.

I didn't care much for Clone Wars. The five minute format was little more to hide the fact that there's little to them. That and I'm a huge animation fan and felt the character designs rather bad considering the work that would supposed go into such a project. I always kept missing them so I couldn't record them. So finally I just bootlegged the thing to see them. I haven't watched the second season though. I remember the ewok movies, I think I really enjoyed them back when. Isn't Cyndel a reporter in the EU now or something?

None of these for me... I can't stand Hacktakovsky's typical lamimation and awful drawings in his "Samurai Jackass II: the Clone Wars", and as for Ewoks, I've never seen those two films with them, and I don't feel the slightest need to.

For me man, ANY OF the Star Wars toons will DO!

I'm wearing out my copies of the Clone Wars and my 5 years old bookie (Corbi Wan Kordobi - AKA Corbin) LOVES the DROIDS!

Galahad, the Holiday Special is pretty bad. I'd have to consider it one the top ten worst things to ever grace a TV screen. Granted, I have seen worse, but not by much.

i have to agree with R2...
the holiday special is pretty bad...

the first half is tollerable i'd say... they you get the Boba Fett cartoon which is pretty cool... but then sitting through that second part... ewwww man its takes some guts...
i think the first part is easier just because your excited to see it.... but that second part... OUCH!
i made it through in one sitting though... i would definatly try and get it if i were you...
sit down with a bunch of buddies, a 24 and im sure it will surpass the PT...
hahaha

When viewing the Holiday Special, I find that a fat joint makes the whole trip that much more enjoyable. However, that has one slight drawback. It makes it seem like it's waaaaaaaaaay longer than it really is.

Luke, actually the best part (when high) is the cooking scene and the cantina scene. Those two scenes are just so awful I can't help but laugh all the way through them. Then of course, Carrie Fisher singing always cracks me up. At least when I'm high. However, when I'm not high I can't stand to watch the thing. Even I have my limits.

I watched about five minutes of it yesterday. Up to about the point where Leia tells all the Wookiees that this is "their holiday" and they're all standing around dressed in red gowns. What the hell was this piece of crap? Did Lucas really think that something like this would be an asset to the SW universe? How can you not know going in that this was going to be just absolutely horrible?
