Ah, the N64. What a legendary system.

Seriously, just look at those games. I can’t name one on the new Xbox and PlayStation that could sell a system. Well, maybe Uncharted 4. But still.

That sucks. I always wanted one, but settled for the normal grey one.

I never owned an N64 (or any Nintendo console other than the GameCube for a brief time). We had my mom’s old Atari 2600 until the first PlayStation came out.

But I played GoldenEye a bunch on friends’ systems, and enough Mario Kart to know that this game was far superior:

Come at me.

It’s okay, we’ve all been flat out wrong before.

I played that game once. I managed to beat the folks who grew up on it. So I guess it plays similarly enough to Mario Kart. Not as fun though.

Ah, the good old Atari 2600. We had one when I a kid. In fact, we still do. It is in a box somewhere with all the cartridges. Haven’t it in years, I doubt it would still work.

My cousins had an n64 and we’d play mario kart when visiting them.

That was about it for my experience with pre wii Nintendo consoles.

The Atari probably will still work, Warbler. Unfortunately it isn’t worth very much these days, unless you mean to say it’s in its original box. In which case… let’s talk, lmao.

I think we have the original box.

Author

Why not?

That box ain’t gonna shelf itself.

Without even having seen it, I bet that it still does.

Mine definitely still does, though I bet most of the cartridges that worked for me in the early-mid 90s probably no longer do.

And CTR has better physics and more responsive controls than Mario Kart. It’s a clone of Mario Kart, sure, but I think it was more polished and more fun. Then again, I have massive Crash Bandicoot nostalgia and zero Mario Bros. nostalgia.

All you need is some rubbing alcohol to make those finicky cartridges work again.

I don’t think Mario Kart 64 was too polished, but it was pretty early on in the 3D world. Mario Kart 64 came out the same year as Super Mario 64. Crash Team Racing came out the same year as Donkey Kong 64, three whole years. That doesn’t sound like much now, but that’s all the difference from figuring out just what makes a 3D game work, and polishing what has been found to work. And for that reason, MK64 is the more notable game. I have a lot of fond memories of it, in fact I have every track memorized, so I obviously prefer it.
