Magnoliafan, Just wondering if you were doing any sort of colour correction to the movies?
Magnoliafan, Just wondering if you were doing any sort of colour correction to the movies?
Aside from switching once scene from day to night in Balance of the Force, I hadn't really done any. Though I may recolor some vehicles and the occasional lightsaber changes color.
I didn't really notice any atrocities on par with the 04 OT dvds.
What did you have in mind, Oracle?
nothing too major, there is just alot of blueish tinges to the scenes in episode one in battleships etc. it just appears a little washed out. Truth be told though I haven't watch my original dvds in quite a while so not sure if it's just cropping up in fanedits.
I will dig up the other threads that were doing similar and PM you
Cade Skywalker and vaderios did some fine colour adjustments on the redux thread. e.g.
Hi Magnoliafan
I was thinking something subtle like the pics by timstuff in this thread
but again personal preference
also are you planning on releasing the final product as single for dual layer?
Probably DL first.

I like the idea here, but I think the color correction is just a bit TOO desaturated here. Maybe more of a happy medium? imo, at least
MagnoliaFan! SO happy to hear your at work again. I saw Balance on youtube a few months back, and I must say, it was absolutely brilliant!
I would say that some color correction would be pretty nice, just cause I think the PT, especially the dvd release, is over-saturated. I mean... all the scenes on Geonosis are completely orange. Now, I love orange, my favorite color but... come on... LOL Everything is absolutely dominated by orange and it makes it look to cartoony. Just an example. But, again, that's just me. Now I must go... back to youtube to watch the rest of Clones! XD

Bingo are these mine? I cant recall. They are way too green for my tastes. If yes curse my monitors..

is these good enough for reference?
In case you missed them in the redux topic

What shot? I can help

LOL Yeah, those are amazing pics! But, again, in my opinion, don't take out ALL the orange... Geonosis is supposed to be a little bit orange. Just, not so much that it becomes cartoony. lol
Those Geonosis shots are really amazing. I was just looking at those scenes and noticing the cartooniness as I got that sequence ready for youtube.
As for the above question about the night-to-day shot in Balance of the Force, its been there since the original version I did, I think.
Its the scene in where Jar Jar & the Jedi reach the lagoon and swim to Otoh Gunga. Its a night time scene in balance.
If you mean which scene with the lightsabers, there was infamous changing Dooku to being a fallen Jedi, so driven to destroy the Sith that he embraced the Dark Side to do it and making his lightsaber yellow/gold.
It was a sort of double homage. One, to Luke's action figure when I was a kid, which had a yellow saber, and to the original idea for Balance of the Force, when I was going to give Qui-Gon a yellow saber, did a few scenes and said to myself, "You know, he uses his saber an awful lot... F*#k it." and gave up out of sheer laziness.
Also, in Episode III since Palpatine loses his saber out the window, I explained that away by him obtaining someone else's saber shortly afterward, which is the one he uses against Yoda.
The ones I posted were Cade's (I hoped that you'd pop a few of yours on).
Yes they are a bit green but he hasn't been on recently and he has some good ideas so I was calling him forth a bit.
I threw this together in about 20 seconds, so its a little on the green side, but something like this?
EDIT: haha, when you posted "I hoped you'd show yours", I thought you meant me. I felt kind of puzzled since I said earlier that I hadn't done any color correction and then thought to myself, "I guess I better whip something up."

Honestly, I find your shots pretty amazing, each time I look at them.
Have you done the whole flick? I'd love to take a look at what you've done color correction wise.
PM sent :)

I had a few stabs at Geonosis myself but not to Angel's standard :
Angel did some with a more lunar look to them too which also looked great.
I did always think a lunar look might be cool for Geonosis.
I loved his Gothic Castle Dooku mockups as well (I'm no fan of the search feature on here) I don't know if he has those to hand?
Hopefully it is up on DA page( thanks again SketchRob :D)

Just uploaded the last part of Clone War to youtube.
No promises that I won't be tinkering more, I'm almost certain I will be, but at least a cut of the whole film is up there and watchable.
It might make sense to drop Star Wars and Clone War from the titles of your Youtube version as sadly these tend to attract the sort of people who get Youtube videos pulled.
If you called them Magnoliafan Edits Episode II it might drop below the radar long enough for a new audience to see them.
Surprisingly, Balance of the Force has been up there for like 2 years and the first few parts of Clone War have been as well.
Sony & LFL raise copyright objections to youtube every time I upload a part, but they allow the videos to remain up.
I just receive this message a message that my video contains content owned by Sony & LFL each time and then told that no action is required on my part but that ads by LFL and Sony may appear next to the video.
In essence, they don't care because they're using my edits as a free billboard which is fine by me.
Those side by side colour comparisons are superb - they really bring out the detail - some great work.

I went ahead and added one other thing to the youtube page tonight.
A discarded alternate ending to "The Clone War" from back in 03.
I was going for a WTF "I am your father"-like plot twist at the end of the film at one point, but ultimately decided that it might be too tricky to make it work, knowing nothing of Episode III at that time.

Like I say in the description, I could explain the context of this...
But I'm not going to.
