oh and here's a great compendium of lost footage, with detailed pictures, explanations, original scripts, etc.

Lost footage compendium Hope everyone finds this thread mildly entertaining. I am sure most of you have seen some of this stuff, but all of you may not have seen ALL of it, so it makes it worthwhile.

Speaking of lost footage, if someone recovers this and puts it on DVD...

Oh, yeah - anyone out there with the lost non-footage of Prowse's originally recorded "Vader voice"?

OMG, Sammy... I posted thos links above and thought they were cool wondering about those cut scenes, but I never saw what you posted on that lost site... the quote follows:

About The Lost Cut:
This was the first edit of Star Wars, edited not by George Lucas but by John Jympson.
This version of Star Wars, according to an article in Star Wars Insider #41 by David West Reynolds, contains about 30-40% different footage from the final version. There are scenes that have never been seen elsewhere as well as alternate takes of scenes we know from the finished version.

Umm, that would be the greatest find of all time to see that...

Magnoliafan...are you out there for this one?

We all want the Original New Hope and some want the Original Pre-New Hope (when it was just star wars in the scrawl and had a couple different scenes), but this, this is clearly a version I would love to see. Anyone else would release this in a box set, with so much fanfare. We'll never see it though...because it is not Luca$' "vision". It is someone else's and God forbid it was better. We all know that when someone else wrote the story (read: ESB) it was better. I wonder about this cut. Certainly, don't question my love for the original, but sheer curiousity as well as listening to Luca$ logic on deleting scenes in ATOC...makes me wonder.

OK this was a link on that starwarscutscenes.com site... Star Wars Obscurities This is insane. It's dizzying how much information is here. 100's of missing scenes. Scripts. I mean please everyone, check this one out, extremely exhaustive.

This site is the Jedi Bendu script site, called StarKiller. It is the internet home of the original drafts & screenplays of the STAR WARS saga. More cool stuff.

Ok, what seems to be the problem with these links? I've been trying them all day and everytime I go to starwarscutscenes.com I get an error page. Each and everytime. Then I do a google search and the page comes up but I still can't get access to it. I'd love to read that alternate version. What was so different about it?

That is weird. I get that now too, that site is awesome. I just looked at it yesterday, not sure why it's down. It did say it was going to updating all the PT stuff. Sorry, hopefully it will be back up soon. That lost cut will blow your mind.

Too bad the "lost cut" will never be released unless someone breaks into the "Ranch" and steals it from there. I wouldn't mind taking a look at it, if only to see that repulsive scene of Han Solo making it out with a sleazy space hooker...

Anyway, the Prowse, the Prowse! Why isn't any "lost footage" site mentioning the original dialogue track with Prowse's very own goofy "Vader voice" (and the "Obi Wan killed your father" line...)? I want to hear it...

I stand by my belief that Camie is still the hottest female in the SW movie universe. I know that's gonna piss off Jimbo, but oh well.

I thought that was you. Nope. Camie's my girl. Despite breast cancer that has resulted in mastectomies over the last few years, she's still a beautiful woman.

See this amazes me. So much we haven't seen. Before "A New Hope" it was "Star Wars", before that it was "The Star Wars". Instead of special edition cartoony Jabba's added in, how about some of this orginal awesome footage. And since we are begging for the originals, how about the real original we never saw.

Quick Lost Cut Facts

Here are some quick facts about the Lost Cut that Dr. David West Reynolds mentions in his article:
Silent, Black-and-white, 35mm, 13 reels
Cut together by British editor, John Jympson
30-40% different footage (including alternate/longer takes and deleted scenes)
Reel cans labeled "The Star Wars" which was the original title
Less dramatic feel than final cut; more documentary-like
Used live projected backgrounds in place of bluescreen effects wherever possible
More time given to both main and secondary characters
Meant to be a work-in-progress, nothing more or less

Here's a quick rundown of some of the moments from the Lost Cut mentioned by Reynolds in his article:
Luke at his vaporator with Treadwell droid
Luke and friends (including Biggs) at Toshi Station
Han Solo and a human Jabba the Hutt (later restored with CG Jabba fro Special Edition)
References to the Rebel's "Hidden Fortress" (Kurosawa reference?) via dialogue from Darth Vader and Tarkin
Alternate establishing shot of Kenobi's hut and landspeeder parked outside
One long shot of landspeeder traveling from trooper checkpoint to the cantina
Longer indoor shot of the "cantina snitch" who alerts the troopers to Kenobi's confrontation
Han Solo and "Jenny" in the cantina booth watching the Kenobi confrontation and kissing afterwards
Luke decides not to replace C-3PO's restraining bolt in Kenobi's hut
Luke and Han congratulate each other after the TIE attack on the Millennium Falcon
Footage Luke and C-3PO in the landspeeder looking for R2-D2
More footage of Kenobi sneaking around the Death Star in search of the tractor beam
Many extra Death Star corridor shots including gags like heroes walking calmly past officers hiding weapons
Random Mos Eisley citizens and aliens
More Rebel Briefing Room shots
Jawas and a partially built sandcrawler
View of Mos Eisley from cliff before matte painting added
Aunt Beru using a blue milk dispenser
Darth Vader and Chief Bast walking and talking on the Death Star

Honestly, I would love to see all footage with Biggs put back in the movie. That would be very cool. That poor actor got the shaft.

I'd like to see the entire lost cut as much as anyone.
I have the original cantina sequence and the original attack on the death star sequence from it (WWII stock footage cut together to represent the final scene).
I know that tapes were dubbed and sent to a few people at the SW Insider to review it for an issue.
They wrote about viewing the tape and included pics.
I also know that an employee at the insider did dub a copy before returning it, because there was a guy selling bootleg dvd-rs at a convention here a while back, but since he wasn't paying for a table to deal there, they called the cops and had him hauled off before I was able to get one.
I got to see a little bit of one of the dvds running at a dealer's table who bought one that day, but he wasn't parting with it at the moment... though I was tempted to knock him in the head and just take it...
If anyone does get a hold of it, I'd love to see it... and I'd see what I could do with cleaning it up colorizing what I could.

Hey Magnolia, good to have you here. I am looking forward to seeing your edits. Rikter said he's got your "Pre-New Hope" in, can't wait to see that either. Yes, I am dying to see any of that lost cut, I have been searching for it on the net. You can get some clips off the sites above. But a DVD-R would be awesome. I am buying the "Behind the Magic" CD-rom which has some lost footage on it. I am going to give Rikter a copy when I get it, let me know if you'd like a copy (you may already have it). Magnolia, I've thought about contacting T'bone about it, he seems to be an authority (he runs the Starwarz.com site). Apparently T'bone himself got most of his info from Dr. David Reynolds who saw the entire original cut (color with sound) at the ranch I suppose. Evan Silva of www.evan.org used to have a compendium of lost fottage but that site seems to be down now. Here is some scenes in XviD codec lost scenes video. Magnolia I have been on a personal hunt to get this stuff, and please God, I hope some of it is on the box set somewhere already cleaned up. I'll get back to you with anything I get. I haven't had time yet to really pursue it as much as I'd like.
