I once used to ask myself why The Simpsons went bad. Not anymore. Now I ask myself how The Simpsons stayed as great as it did for so long. The ninth season of classic Simpsons is its worst, but it’s still damn good TV. Most other similar shows would’ve plateaued much earlier and been neck-deep into stagnation at this point.

Getting neck deep in anything is quite an accomplishment.

Bart Star is one of my all time favorites.

But yeah, this was the last good season.

Am enjoying the 3rd season of Fear The Walking Dead (so far) - it seems to have picked up in quality towards the back end of season 2 (after a poor start) - and this season has been quality - hope they can keep it up.

Dark Matter is also a decent sci-fi show on a budget - now in it’s 3rd season - and still a good & fun watch.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

After a second viewing I enjoyed damn near every aspect series far more this time around. One of the worse things that can happen is if someone picks up the show for a forth Season as the ending was as perfect as you can get for doing something slightly different.

Well, I finished watching the first four seasons of Andromeda (minus a couple episodes that I deliberately skipped over), and what I have to say is this:

I’m not angry at the way this show was derailed after the first half of the second season – how it was turned into an incoherent mess with horribly misdeveloped characters and awful continuity – just incredibly disappointed and very, very, very sad.

As I am ever the obsessive-compulsive masochist, I decided to revisit Andromeda for the second time in four years. I spent the last two months watching the entire series; I didn’t skip a single episode. Suffice to say, time and exposure to the rank abomination that is Season 5 have made my statement above a lie. I am angry at how this series was derailed following the first half of the second season. No, not angry. Enraged. Apoplectic. Annie.

My favourite character was Trance Gemini. She was cute, vivacious, sexy, with a subtle sinister edge to her; I loved her as much as I could ever love a fictional woman. She was replaced with a gold imposter who spent most of the remainder of the series running around in a horrid rat’s nest wig and unflattering pleather outfits, spouting stilted nonsense which would make George Lucas shake his head. My second favourite character was Rev Bem. He became a washed-out shadow of his former self then was promptly forgotten about. My third favourite character was Tyr Anasazi. He was a character I should’ve hated, but his depth and dialogue made me admire him in spite of myself. He was reduced first to a milksop then to a mustache-twirling villain, whereupon he died an ignominious death after getting shot in the back. The remaining supporting characters – all decent in their own right, played by fine actors – were reduced to caricatures and animate backdrops.

Why did this all happen? Because Tribune Entertainment was run by visionless hacks only interested in catering to the lowest common denominator. Because Kevin Sorbo needed his ego vigorously jerked off. Because Robert Engles was a shitty showrunner who was under the assumption he was still writing for Twin Peaks.

Oh, and apparently Sorbo wants to bring this show back through Netflix to run an additional two seasons. He can go suck a force lance.

*takes several deep, calming breaths*

Now, that all purged from my system, here’re my ratings for each of Andromeda’s five seasons (and the individual episodes therein).

Secrets of the Furious Five (2008)

A short film sequel to Kung Fu Panda. It’s comprised of a series of vignettes revealing the origins of each member of the Furious Five. The framing story with Po is done in CG but the stories themselves are done in the beautiful 2D animated style from the end credits of Kung Fu Panda. Of the five stories, Tigress proves the most evocative of the bunch. Her story has always been rather tragic going back to the original film. It’s surprising none of the feature length sequels have touched on it again.

Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Scroll (2015)

Another short film, this one exploring the origin of the Furious Five as a group. Excellently paced and beautifully animated with stellar narration by Randall Duk Kim as Master Oogway.

Finished watching American God, damn what a headache that was. Never read the books but I enjoyed the movie. Interesting to see how the Jinn was developed, we grew up with jinn stories so always interested in the way this is told from another point of view. My favourite scene which i always rewatch on YouTube is Gillian Anderson David Bowie scene. The whole scene and music just works sooo well. Can’t wait for season 2 now 👍🏽

I’m not sure if it’s the GOAT, but I can’t really think of a story (spread out across multiple entries) that is told as beautifully as this one. There may be stories that interest me more but I cannot think of a story that is as satisfying to watch as Walter White’s.

Back in my day, a “goat” was someone who screwed up and lost the game for the whole team. So to see the term “GOAT” used the way it is now, especially when referencing an athlete, is extremely weird.

I would have preferred that as my nickname was “Cock” for about a month in 7th grade after causing my team to lose in open gym because I turned the ball over. I fucked up so bad in that game that the Teacher let it slide when it was said in his presence.

Depends on if you’re using the version before the emergence of the alt right “movement”. If you’re using that version then it is certainly not.

Granite Flats (2013-2015)

Saw this series pop up as a suggestion on Netflix on more than one occasion. Decided to give it a go. So glad I did. What seems like a simple premise quickly escalates in scope and stakes throughout the first season. The second season continues this, introducing new facets and characters played by the likes of Cary Elwes and the brilliant Christopher Lloyd! Season Three, while it wasn’t meant to cap the series, does so admirably. If you’re a fan of mystery and intrigue or hold a fascination with '60s era conspiracy, I highly recommend you give this series a chance.

GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (2012)

Another great '80s doc. Somehow I don’t remember watching GLOW back in the day, despite it being right in my wheelhouse (I once got to meet Macho Man Savage backstage before an event where he lied and told me he would beat the Hulkster that night!). But this was still a lot of fun to watch. The end was especially neat and very touching.
