MF Doom - Vomitspit
Madvillain - America’s Most Blunted
Deicide - In Hell I Burn
As a whole I don’t care much for deicide, but I do happen to have Legion on vinyl lp (the only album of theirs I felt was good enough front to back to merit owning… The first album is okay but the Amon demo has many of those songs and they are all better than the versions on the album even productionwise. (Talking about the one with “crucifixation”)) and I break it out once in a while and I love that song.

Self titled has a few good songs (Mephistopheles, Day of Darkness, Oblivious To Evil, Lunatics of God’s Creation and Crucifixation) but Legion took things to a whole new level. It’s more technical, innovative and overall consistent than their first album but I haven’t really gotten a chance to live with it yet. I still think Deicide at their best wasn’t on the level of Morbid Angel, Autopsy, Pestilence, Asphyx, Immolation or Carcass but that’s just me.
Deicide isn’t as good as those bands. And lunatic of God’s creation and crucifixation are great, but are both better on the demo than the album, even production wise. The album is extremely flat sounding whereas the demo is full of energy. Also the vocals aren’t hilariously overdone like they are on the album… They are more like legion. The production is a little like a rougher sounding legion as well.

I also think the guitar tone is more interesting but the vocals are still weak for me save for the effects they add to Benton’s vocals but never have I really given props to anyone who didn’t use their natural voice for the entirety of the album. I definitely respect people like Martin Van Drunen, Nocturno Culto and Ross Dolan who would have shredded their vocal cords but risked it to finish their respective albums before changing styles.
You’re talking about the one with crucifixation right? I didn’t notice his voice being very effected on that one. Not nearly as much as on the album anyway

There were mad demonic effects on that one. Mostly on the album version the vocals consisted of dual vocals both coming from Glen Benton. I don’t really remember his voice being tampered at all on their first LP.
Really? There’s some effects and double tracking in the beginning but on the whole that sounds way more natural than what we got on the album. The instruments sound better too.
