I'm sure this is old, but HOW do you download torrents?

I hate to sound like a noob, but I've been trying to download the pre SE ld transfer torrents for over an hour.

Everytime I click on 'download' and try to save, it says the file is only about 43 KB, which is a FAR dry from the actual 44 MB. It then downloads in about a second and doesn't recognize the file.

Cany anyone give me some pointers? I tried doing a search and didn't come up with much.

The ".torrent" file is like a list of instructions for a BitTorrent client, like Azureus or BitComet or any other number of clients (jsut google for them). The client then uses those "instructions" to download the files from a swarm of people around the net who have or are getting the files.

Well, actually the full download size is 4.26 GB, not 44 MB.

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

I think I'm slowly getting the hang of this.

So far it's been 20 minutes, and it still says Bit Torrent: 0.0%, 7 KB/s, 25 days remaining?

Is it normal for such torrents to take a month to download? I have Verizon DSL which is pretty fast in my area.

Oh, and thanks for the link, Rikter.

Speed to download varies depending on how many seeders there are for the download, how many others are trying to download it, etc. But 25 days is a long time. But it shouldn't take near that long. It should speed up after a while.

Are you behind a firewall?

A new release of Star Wars is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.

I just removed the firewall, but I didn't notice much difference and reactivated it. It's down to only 8 days now.

I have another question: Are the most common torrents (pre SE LD rip) the ones where you DON'T see Leia welding in TESB? If so, I already have them on disc.

I'm looking for a complete torrent of the Definitive Collection, if such a thing exists outside LD format. I know Leia welding isn't a huge deal, but it won't feel complete without that scene.

If you want a really good bittorrent client, look at BitLord.com. I've used other ones and haven't liked em, but I've really grown to like bitlord.

BitLord and BitComet appear to be nearly identical. Is one better than the other, and are both better than BitTorrent? BitTorrent is downloading my fils much slower than Comet.

I'm using BitComet and have recently noticed that after I complete downloading, I have trouble seeding files. Occasionally, it'll upload but most of the time, the torrent is stuck on "Connecting" status even though I didn't have any connection issues while downloading and am simultaneously downloading a separate torrent from the same tracker. Anyone know the problem?

You could try BitTornado as well. I've found that to be more straightforward.

Is it possible that the reason I can't seed is that there are already 6 seeders and only 1 leecher on the torrent (The Making of Raiders, BTW) I'm trying to seed?
