How Many Star Wars Related DVDs do you have- how do you keep up with them? — Page 2

Good point none.

Actually, if you look in the right places, a 1tb external drive can be found for slightly above the $100 dollar mark, I might be mistaken, but I'd assume an internal drive would be a bit less. I bought my 500gb external drive over a year ago for $60USD off of amazon.

Hard drives are definitely not a bad way to go, but I would never be content with storing stuff I found of value only on a single hd.

Do you really think this community has produced 300-400 DVDs over all these years? I might have estimated it at somewhere around 100, give or take. I guess an ungodly amount of Prequel edits have been created, but I'd have a hard time believing the numbers to be that high. Not to mention, there are plenty of outdated releases out there and redundant material that would not need to be preserved.

So yeah, an ideal setup might be a 500gb external hd filled with image files (and a secondary 500gb backup drive kept in a safe place) that could easily be plugged into a PS3/Xbox/Wii/PC/etc. for playback. If someone wanted to go through the trouble and get really fancy, they could even make themselves a fancy slip cover or storage case for their HD.

As for the guestimate, i'm including everything, it's inflated. I wasn't trying to figure out the perfect one of everything list, I was going from what i've got burned and archived, verse the various lists compiled around here. And then a factor of +20 since there are project i'm not aware of and might never know exist.  It's also inflated to include all version 2's and mutiple released items due to error corrections etc. So is anyone going to save all 25 or so ANH preservations of the laser discs, no. But if they were put out there i'm considering them a plus one. Consider that one individual (Rikter) did create 50 discs. And yes some programs like the AFI tribute to GL was archived by at least 4 or 5 OT.com members. and I include fan edits. It does dwindle the number down significantly. So the OT.com Essential 100 is probably a good goal for the master library of SW media knowledge made by fans.

Other than the quality differences, what aree the differences between the broadcasts?

Really, there isn't much.

Some versions have station id's plastered all over them, while others are more limited.

Star Wars DVDs I own:

Copies taken from the 1995 widescreen VHS (non-functioning) I'll have to destroy them before i throw them out.

the "prequels" and the 2004 editions (currently collecting dust in a box that is stuffed in the back of my closet, save for Empire strikes back)

The 2006 "bonus discs" of ANH and RotJ, which sit in the 2004 box with the 2004 version of ESB (the least butchered one of the three), and Walt Disney's "Fantasia", the ending of which I pair with RotJ for the ultimate uplfiting movie experiance.

Really?  I consider 2004 ESB to be one of the most ruined.  Crappy Emperor Holo, stupid Jango voice, pink sabres, terrible Yoda colouring...  Blue.

I would have never thought of putting Fantasia in the 2004 box.  Of course, it's my wife's and it's VHS, so two problems there.

Very High Standards.  Therefore it has no place in the 2004 box.

I have a Phantom Menace CD wallet that I keep stuff in.  It carries the 2004 & 2006 sets along with the Wal-Mart Bonus, The Story of Star Wars.   I've got one DC set with artwork in it's own cases.  A Dr. Gonzo set that is in slim cases and some miscellaneous DC Bonus Feature disc compilations.  I also have a 2 disc set that has all the OT "Making Of's" in it.

I do have the Adywan ANH Revisited and I'm working on getting all of the HDTV sourced sets in AVCHD.

Guess it's time I start sorting these properly......

I am on my way to buying legitimate copies of the original trilogy after a long hiatus from SW! Right now I have the prequels on DVD. I know I’ve said it numerous times, but I’m sorry for owning illegitimate copies on USB. I was very young and naive.

Here’s what I have: (in shelf order)

Phantom Menace (original release)
Attack of the Clones (annoying full-screen version)
Revenge of the Sith (original release)
Solo (original DVD)
Rouge One (original BD/DVD combo)
'04 OT set, chapter inserts and everything
'08 GOUT set sans box (mostly kept for sentimental reasons, as half of the discs don’t work)
the 2015 BD Steelbooks for the OT
Force Awakens BD/DVD combo pack, with Walmart-exclusive slip
Last Jedi (original release DVD)
Rise of Skywalker (Blu-ray)

At my grandparent’s house, I also have the '97 SE set (gold) and a '91 TV recording of ROTJ.

I’m not really that much of a movie purist. I really should’ve thought my name out a bit more.
