A question of simple curiosity..... (OT releases)

Hey all,

I realise that the OT is the shiznit. I feel the same. I have however acquired one set of the OT on DVD and the SE as well. Nice ways to archive and savor what we are gonna be missing from the new set. Here is my question:

I just received the SE on VHS still in its original packaging for $14.99 plus shipping. What a bonus, eBay smiled on me. Would it be any better transfer to take a new set like this and create a DVD archive set? Considering the THX and the “out of the box quality”, wouldn’t it be easier to make a clearer transfer than the LD or am I just having “delusions of grandeur”? Since we have so many people in here with the knowledge and capability to do it, I figured the worst you can say is “no” and move on. Hahahaheehee

Any ideas, thoughts, comments, or re-direction to another thread for answers would be most helpful.

Thanks!!

No, because Laserdisc has a much higher resolution (425 lines) compared to VHS (250 lines). Also Laserdisc sound is digital, where VHS is analog. For more info on Laserdisc, click here. You will probably want to checkout section 2.2 (Is the picture really better than my VCR).

Always good to know. I've never even attempted conversion and such like alot in here have. I am better informed and that helps.

Thanks.

A very nice factory pressed, dual layered set of the 1997 SE Trilogy has already been produced. I bought one and I liked it so much that I was willing to give up my SE laserdiscs when I needed cash. I can't post a link per what webmaster Jay said here...

1997 SE officially bootleg fodder?

...but anyone can PM me for more info.

RowMan - I tak it that you may have the anamorphic or letterbox version of the OT too...

If so, quality wise - do your dual layer 97SE set compare with the OT versions? or are they better?

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Yeah. I have both the TR47 and the anamorphic OT single layered discs. I'd say the dual layered factory pressed SE DVDs are in the same quality range as the laserdiscs as the OT DVDs are. They look really good, but still don't match what an official release would look like. Definitely worth getting if you don't own the laserdiscs and/ or want an upgrade from the out-of-print VHS release.
