Color matching and prediction: color correction tool v1.3 released! — Page 38

Is there an easy way (ideally through the use of automatic software) to align two versions of the same frame that have different framing and/or sizes in preparation for running them through Dr. Dre’s color matching tool?

I’ve been trying to manually crop and resize some versions of such frames to match different versions, but I can never get them to quite line up.

Here are two images that I am having difficulty with:

https://web.archive.org/web/20190704065018/https://images2.imgbox.com/ab/a2/u6rvG6i6_o.jpg

https://web.archive.org/web/20190704065052/https://images2.imgbox.com/96/84/THMFoysZ_o.jpg

I’m trying to resize and crop the former one to match the latter.

You have to use the auto align feature in photoshop, it will auto resize and warp one image to match the other.

I don’t have Photoshop. Are there any freeware solutions? Is there possibly a way to do it with GIMP?

You can try out this avisynth plugin, I never tried it so I don’t know how it does. It doesn’t have the warping feature though, so if one of your images has some type of distortion it will not work.

It looks promising, but the few attempts that I’ve made at using Avisynth have been failures. I’ve never been able to successfully figure out how to use it.

Is there any plan to make a batch version of this? I want to use it to overlay 4:3 and 16:9 sources and it takes forever to do one frame at a time by hand. If not, is there a way to write a plugin script in PhotoShop to use external programs and then use PhotoShop’s batch processes? I know I can theoretically do it a scene at a time, but even within a scene there is drift and the color matching does not last longer than a few frames in some cases. Thanks.

Hello. Is this tool compatible with MacOS? The only laptop I have at the moment is a MacBook Air and I am wanting to make an Ultimate Edition of the Star Wars saga with this tool, complete with some scenes that were cut from each film. Thank you.

No, sadly it is only compatible with Windows at this time.

I use it on my Mac.

Although with OS Catalina, not sure if its compatible anymore?

You can use it (and any windows program) on lan using a program called Wine.

I just used the Mac installer the guy posted a few pages back. No other program needed, although as I said, since installing OS Catalina, not sure that installer will work anymore.

Yeah, I thought I remembered compiling it for OSX. Was that a 64-bit version? I think Catalina is 64-bit apps only.

I don’t think so. It doesn’t seem to download now. Any chance you can re-compile it for 64-bit?

It could be that I only had a 32 bit version of Matlab for OSX. I’ll check and see if I still have the source code (or Matlab for OSX)

I can get you the link for the 2019 64bit MATLAB if that helps.

I really want to do a clean install of the new OS but I don’t want to lose the color match tool. I use it fairly often.

I’ve decided to wait for DrDre’s next tool, which, as ZigZig said, will automatically restore deleted scenes, integrate them into the movie, upscale them to 4k and recolorize them to HDR. According to ZigZig, this tool will be compatible with MacOS, so the next tool seems like my only option. Could you please tell me when it will be ready? Thank you.

I think ZigZig may have been pulling your leg mate.

Nope, Wine isn’t compatible with OS Catalina.

As I said before, it works with Mac unless you have the newest 10.15 Catalina OS. The installer for Mac is a few pages back, but someone needs to update it for 64-bit in order for it to work with Catalina.

Guys, can someone please help with an issue I’m having…

Here’s my test image: http://www.imagebam.com/image/d9051e1326238030][IMG]https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/e5/54/23/d9051e1326238030.jpg

And here’s the reference image: http://www.imagebam.com/image/f430241326238032][IMG]https://thumbs2.imagebam.com/6c/7e/76/f430241326238032.jpg

Why do these particular shots screw up the color matching tool so badly? This isn’t the only time I’ve run into this “glitch”. 90% of the time, this tool is amazing, but with certain shots, like these two, it just goes spazz on me. Is there any workaround that you guys have figured out for these “problem shots”? I’ve experimented with the smoothing and color space values, and neither have seemed to have any effect.

Edit: think I may have found a sweet spot in the settings with shots like this with 50 color spaces and 1 smoothing. I knew there had to be a workaround.

There are so many apps that I want for my MacBook, Wine included, but it’s taking forever for those apps to be updated for Catalina. I don’t know about any of you, but I’m sick of waiting for these updates.

I have compiled a 64-bit version for OSX. I tested it on my Macbook pro (still running OSX High Sierra) and on a virtual machine (still running on OSX Sierra), and it worked on both but I can’t tell you for sure that it will run on Catalina, so give it a go:

Web installer (32 MB): https://mega.nz/#!D9JUzCRC!0B482Vg6yIC9eZXKAsOMdLnLvFItG5bv5JKJ0BJraYI

Full installer (879 MB): https://mega.nz/#!D1YUnATI!g21ed17ldNaXQ0ZZN43_j3dEFBxsNeO8foslxuDD98A

Note: either way, you will have to download about 900 MB: the only difference is that the web installer will download the other 800+ MB during install whereas the full installer requires the download up front. When I tested them, the web installer was unable to connect to the matlab URL it needed to in order to download the rest of it, so you might be better off with the bigger download…
