Classic OT covers

Author
Time
Hi everyone,

here's my first attempt at generic OT DVD covers. I tried to give them a "classic" look. Hope you like them.
If anyone wants the full resolution, please PM me your email address or direct me to somewhere I can post them online.
I would welcome any questions/comments.

Those are really nice! They're a bit plain, but I think that's part of what makes them look so smooth.

Really nice covers!

You now need to make an alternate for Star Wars that drops "Episode IV - A New Hope" and uses the formatting from the original release version.

"It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have
won their first victory
against the evil Galactic
Empire.

During the battle, rebel
spies managed to steal
secret plans to the Empire's
ultimate weapon, the
DEATH STAR, an armored
space station with enough
power to destroy an entire
planet."

The last paragraph is identical to the "Episode IV" credits. Please also note the lower case "r" in the first sentence of the second paragraph. That's intentional. Also obviously all the text should be justified to the edges. If you could do this, I'd love a high-res version. Thanks!

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Thanks Neil,

Yes, I was thinking of doing a pre-ANH version for those who wanted it. I've tried to make these as "classic" as possible, hence the use of "a long time ago...", opening crawl text and end-title style credits. However, sharp eyes will detect that the crawl and title fonts aren't identical to the originals, so I'd like to correct that. Can anyone point me to free downloads of these or email them? The other thing I thought of was putting a starfield behind the main title logo on the back. Does anyone have a screencap of the opening starfield?

If you're going to make more covers, it'd be awesome to get a pre-ANH one as Neil said, but also a Holiday Special one, a set for the official PT and then a set for the MagnoliaFan edits... I'd really like getting all my DVDs into covers that match. And your's are really awesome. Oh, and it'd be cool to get some kind of "Bonus Material" cover.

-edit-
What's your email address? I'd really like getting the full-res versions of these covers.

Those are sharp, THX! I wouldn't mind a HQ set of those! Good work! I like the classic look to them.

You stole my idea for using the old Fox logo, well....you didn't STEAL it, but I was going to do the same thing. I think the covers and spins look great, I'd tinker with the backs though.

Great job.

Very nicely done! Thanks for these and thanks for putting in the effort to listen to my crazy demands. I love the lack of roman numerals on the spines and the lack of a THX banner on the front, which is unusual, considering who made these.

Can see them now - very nively done THX - especially like the design of the backs of the covers

If you have the time, energy and commitment then it'd be great to see what Jaster Mareel suggested in doing PT covers, Magfan covers, alt ANH cover, bonus materials cover, and 3/4 disc boxset covers... if not, cheers anyway m8

I absolutely love the original poster art. I think this should be done more often. So major thumbs up on these covers.

- Remember the good 'ol days when THX was just a sex starved bald guy trying to escape his repressive society?

BTW - is it appropriate to include the THX logo on DVD cover art? I didn't actually think that the source material was THX encoded until the Faces editions. I could be wrong though.

The THX logo is on the Definitive Collection LD set, as far as I know. I've tried to make everything as pre-SE as possible, hence the old Fox logo (well spotted, Hardcore Legend), dolby logo and lucasfilm logo. Also, the choice of stills, which are... anyone?

From the book and record sets?

Actually, they're from the original theatrical release lobby sets (remember when they had those?).

Thanks oojason, I'm upgrading the accuracy of the lettering at the moment, then I'll get them to Rik and Grisan's site.

good stuff m8 - the more I look at the backs of those covers the better they look - such a simple yet effective design, not cluttered, yet it has all the info you'd ever need, and is instantly recognisable from other covers.

Great set of 8 pictures for each film too.

I've updated the covers above to improve the back cover crawl fonts and spacing. I've also done a pre-ANH version for purists:

Nice cover.

Due to poular demand (well, Jaster Mareel and oojason), I'm doing a matching Holiday Special cover. The front cover is fine, but I'd appreciate some feedback on the back cover. I'm basically trying to choose between four different layouts (below). If anyone has any thoughts, I'd appreciate them. I'll edit this post to link to the final cover when it's done. Thanks.

I think i prefer the ones on the left. and of those two i think im leaning towards the bottom one, i think mainly cause it has more color to it.
