I like that 1995 artwork but the pan and scan stuff was always a bad idea. In fullscreen you couldn’t even see the sandpeople that Luke spots with his binoculars.
Hi, I’m curious on what people’s preferred Pan and Scan releases of the Original Unaltered Trilogy are. I’m assuming it will be laserdisc, but know that there are multiple US releases, and really don’t know much about international releases.
Also, please share if you know of a preservation of your preferred source.
Preferred Saga:
1,2: Numeraljoker extended
3: L8wrtr
4,6-9: Hal9000
5: Adywan
Hiya nsp,
I once had a ‘DVD preservation’ copy of the 1995 Hong Kong LD release - I think it was the only P&S release for that 1995 series of releases (all the others were Widescreen) - but unfortunately it got lost over the years… and it is seemingly a difficult release to find these days.
Personally, I loved it - despite the burnt-in subtitles. Not at the quality of Moth3r’s PAL set (WS), yet that not far off either.
Forcefreak on TSWT forums posted this info about the 1995 P&S Hong Kong set (all credit to him)…

It is probably worth asking JadedSkywalker for his opinion on which is the best P&S release of the more readily available sets?
If you’re looking for opinions on fan preservations (usually LD rips to DVD/mp4/iso files), then this may be of interest:-

I think it is personal preference. The only THX Pan and Scan on laserdisc is the Hong Kong release.
But there is the quiet reissue in the 90s with the same catalog number of the first issues in CLV all with digital sound, likely same video master. In the USA. and there was Pan and Scan reissues in Japan the Evergreen releases, all with burned in Japanese subtitles.
And the Faces Pan and Scan VHS, and the only perseveration I ever had was Dark Jedi’s Pan and Scan Faces I haven’t been able to source new copies.
