One of my hopes about the series has been revealed...

SciFi Wire
Galactica Will Encounter Pegasus

David Eick, co-creator and executive producer of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica, offered SCI FI Wire a few more details about the introduction of the Battlestar Pegasus, a returning element from the original series, which co-creator Ronald D. Moore revealed in a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego. "This really came out of a conversation Ron and I had early on about the episodes we had seen of the original show and what felt like they might be well served by a fresh interpretation," Eick said in an interview. He added: "The storyline that we thought was interesting was the Battlestar Pegasus. And so, naturally, we put a pretty unexpected and, I think, pretty subversive spin on it. But it's definitely going to be a fixture for a while." The Pegasus appears beginning in the 10th episode of the second season.

The arrival of the Pegasus will launch a complex story arc inspired by current events, Eick said. "It stands to reason that in a show that's all about how we're all trying to survive this horrific attack by this inhuman enemy, that the thing that we're really exploring is not that threat from without, but how it turns itself inward and how it becomes insidious and internal, and how it begins to break us down from inside ourselves," he said. "And what better way to take that idea to the next level than to introduce another human being who, on the face of it, is going to help us defeat the Cylons, defeat that third outside enemy, once and for all, but in reality serves to only remind us once again that the biggest enemy is really us?"

Eick also hinted that the Pegasus will be involved in a multi-episode arc, though its crew may not be around as long. "It's not going to go away as quickly as people might think," he said. "That's not to say that the folks involved in bringing the Pegasus to us are going to remain indefinitely. But for sure it's going to be a fixture for some time." Battlestar Galactica airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
A while ago, I said I hoped they would "copy" just one or two of the original series episodes. I think I actually mentioned the Pegasus episodes in particular.

So, I'm happy to see the Pegasus showing up. I have no touble it will turn out different, but at least its there.

Now...can I get Gun on Ice Planet Zero??

Only problem is that Jonathan Harris (original voice) is dead. Wouldn't sound right to hear anyone else do that voice.

Details about the Season 1 US DVD:

The UK edition is being converted to Region 1 and sold as a Best Buy exclusive from Tuesday (July 26) to September 20. Then the official US version is being released on the 20th to all retailers and the UK version is being discontinued.

Here are details on each.

The UK version is a 4-disc set with the 13 episodes and deleted scenes. If it is a direct port of the Region 2 set with no changes, it won't even have chapter stops. It has the UK opening theme song, the one that is now used in Season 2 in the US.

The US version is a 5-disc set with the miniseries, 13 episodes, deleted scenes, commentaries, the "Lowdown" and a Behind the Scenes featurette. This version renders the miniseries DVD pointless because ALL content on the miniseries disc is in this set. It has the US opening theme song that is no longer used as of season 2 (though at the end of Valley of Darkness, 2x02, it is used in the show itself, just not the intro).

I'm giving my miniseries DVD to my uncle and getting the US version - I like the US theme better and I want chapter stops, damn it! (And the commentaries.) Maybe I'll get him the UK version for Christmas or something, he doesn't care about extras for the most part.

Meaning you preferred the original to the new one? I've caught a few of the old series eps on SciFi reruns and thought it was pretty bad. I personally think the new one is one of the best shows on TV (with Lost and 24 being my other favorites). BSG should have been nominated for some emmy's and was robbed. If this season is as good as the 1st season was and doesn't next year, it'll only confirm my belief's that all award shows are fixed.

If DAYV is like me, we were so used to the original storyline that the huge departure that was made from the original was, at the very least, hard to deal with.

Imagine that Star Wars was reimagined by George Lucas so that Darth Vader hung out with Luke and the gang, and they didn't know he was the bad guy (assuming Baltar is a bad guy).
Imagine that Han was redone as female (i.e. Starbuck).
Imagine that R2 shot Luke at the end of A New Hope, while an identical R2 was busy fixing vaporators on Tatooine.
See what I mean?

Believe me I completely understand how you guys feel on the changes. I know there were a lot of fans PO'd about the changes, especially when they were 1st released. So have you guys tried watching the show? Or is it too much of a stretch to achknowledge the changes? The reason I ask that is b/c I think the changes have been very good. And believe me, I'd be the 1st to say the show sucked if the changes were bad. But Katee Sackhoff is simply great at playing Starbuck. Having the Cylons look like humans now is great too, b/c it adds a complex mind game that the original show didn't have. If you haven't tried watching the show, or have tried but with a closed mind, give it another spin. Like I said before, it's one of the best shows on TV and my new obsession (Buffy being my last).

I think you mis-read DAYV's post! He finished by saying:
BUT NOW IT'S ONE OF THE ONLY T.V. SHOWS THAT I WATCH CONSISTANTLY.

Meaning he, like most of us, got hooked by the quality of the show! When the new 'mini-series' first aired I couldn't stand watching it after a few minutes, but thanks to the DVD release I gave it another chance and when seeing it without commercials I really dug it. Then watched through the first season and -BANG! I was hooked like a junkie!

I forgot to say in my earlier post that I haven't missed an episode yet.

Yes, I was hesitant at first, but I'm enjoying it now.

That is how I took it as well, but wasn't sure which one he then they preferred. starkiller's comments then did confuse me a bit as I thought him and dayv's comments were they preferred the original over the new one and didn't give it a chance. I was more leaning towards starkiller in the "did you give a chance" statement but grouped dayv in there as well. My mistake for that. But I am glad that the fans of the original weren't closed minded enough not to give it a chance and that they do enjoy it now.
