A variation, but yes. Not been paying attention... I hate when that happens. I'm to absent-minded to play chess.

One tricky thing about playing this way is that I come up with a strategy in my mind, and when I get to play again, a day later, I've forgotten what I was planning... "What? Why the hell did I move this pawn here? What was I thinking back then?"

By the way, this is how chess should be played. It's on portuguese (from Portugal, thick accent), but no translations are necessary.

I have no idea. It is said on Portugal's portuguese, he said "a little bottle of" and some word I am not familiar with. I was not able to understand what is said at the end either.

Thing is...I was playing at work for most of the time, then went home and rushed my moves (bird was nagging me) then the next thing I knew..I'd lost..ha.

aye m8 - 'tis hard to concentrate when trying to do stuff on the pc.

I don't understand why my missus continually talks to me and demands attention whilst I'm busy the pc (trying to reply to JediSage's socialsm thread - and all I can hear is her asking questions about something SO not important it was untrue)- yet when her tv soaps/programs are on there must be silence! lol




Am away on hols & without a pc from Monday to Friday next week - so can't be making any moves in the chess tourny matches - thought I'd let people know. Have really enjoyed playing - 'tis a good craic.

OO - Go into your settings and select "Holiday Block" so you don't lose time in your games, if you like.

congrats to whitehaven, who beat m a couple of days ago - was a superb game until I made a very basic mistake.

Also had great games recently vs Shimy and Warbler - really enjoyed playing chess of late - I hope we do another tournament or keep on playing each after this one ends

My opinions so far:
Best game: 50 round game against oojason (thats 100 moves in total). He only made 1 mid-game mistake in the entire game, and it was damn small. If you guys want I can post the history. And that is 50 moves with him still having 2 knights, 2 rooks, 3 pawns and a queen. I had 2 rooks, a queen, 4 pawns and a bishop. His only end-game mistake was when I forked his queen It was a nerve racking game because both of us consistently went *worst case scenario*. How the heck do you play someone who consistently plays your worst case predicition. It doesn't help to predict your opponents next 20 moves if all those moves are bad for you. Jason took *1* risk mid-game, and that lost it (he let my knight get into his back). I had no clue until the VERY end who was going to win that one. Jason plays about identically to how i used to (dependant on queen), which is how I was able to manipulate him in the end-game. Sorry Jason, if you had taken that queen trade you would have won (would have taken forever though). I've taken a couple queen trades in the tourney when they suited me. Thats actually a note for everyone. do not be afraid to take a queen trade. If you threaten someone's queen and they threaten yours in turn (ie, if you kill theirs, they kill yours). Let them take your queen. That gives you a free move, cause you can let them take YOUR queen first. Make a move assuming that they are going to kill your queen next turn, and then you can kill theirs. Most people WONT want to make the trade, and if you threaten their queen, they will run, often giving you a chance to escape. Furthermore, this tactic is often a *last gasp* because players do it assuming that you are going to run with your queen. If you allow yourself to be taken you can often REALLY hurt them. Think of sacking queen's as chess ascension. If you can do it, you have risen above the intermmediate level. (although now I can't do this move anymore, dang)

Funniest game: Gainst shim. I killed all his pieces before he gave up. He ended after killing a bishop in a fork with his king (after i killed his last royal piece). Wasn't a bad game either. And shim says i've never beaten him at chess. HA!

Most screwed up game: gainst warbler. This game isn't finished yet, but I REALLY screwed up my start. I only had 1 pawn out of the second row all the way into the 6th round. By round 12 I still only have 2 forward.... I HATE playing turtle games, which is what I need to play now. Dammit.

Best Stalemate: Wookie. Trapped his queen in my back row for what, 7 rounds now? I couldn't get at him because moveing a piece to get at it would either let it get free or open my king to check. He couldn't get out cause all his moves were blocked.

Most persistent: KingsClash (hotrod?) DAMN YOU!! WHY WON'T YOU DIE!!!!!!!!

Quickest game: Ricareleite. hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa. *sniff* you made this tournament perfect, 'least our second game was good.

hahaha thats funny, but its true this online chess thing is the only time you have ever beaten me skip.

as for jason, man that last game we had was priceless our queens stayed in attack/defencive places for like was 40 rounds hahaha. and then there was the trench of pawns and my almost wood be surpise mate but i messed it up hahaha.

funniest game i think it was against kingsclash, i beat you with two queens. another funny game i think it was against wookie. i lost my queen on a stupid movie early then got another queen. i donno if that one is done yet or not.

You can view each other's games by...

going to schemingmind.com, and clicking on 'My Games', then clicking on 'Mini Tournaments', then click on 'The OT Tournament' and you'll get a grid of the results so far.

Click on any game and you'll see the board of that match - and using the small icons below the chess board shown can watch the whole match to date.

'Tis pretty cool to see what's happening in the other matches.



Skipper - I was far too confident of getting something out of having my queen on a diagonal threatning mate that I didn't take that queen exchange - I really should have gone for it, hopefully I'll learn for next time

Shim - that last game reminded me of the end scenes from the ST2 - Wrath Of Khan battle m8 - slowly moving the pieces around the board in limited space - bit like submarine battles. I don't think I've ever played a game where the queens were threatening each other at the next move but didn't do anything about for aprrox 50 moves! lol

Have enjoyed that nearly every game has been different - lots of various tactics and gameplans. At the moment Warlber has me really boxed in - am enjoying trying to figure a way of it, though may take some time...

AAAAAHHHHHH I SCREWED UP!!!! Playing wookie, we're in end game, he has a bishop and a rook, I have a queen.... AND I TOOK MY QUEEN AND DROPPED IT ON HIS PAWN'S DIAGONAL!!! OMG@!!@#!$!! I DIDN"T MEAN TO HIT SUBMIT AND THERE"S NO TAKEBACKS!!!!! ARRAGHGHGHGHGH!!!
