Make Cassian fat and use AI to add lines supporting an implied character arc where he loses weight. For the Rebellion.

Here’s a mockup

Farm planet, boring, it’s gone.

Yavin 4, insufferable characters that are never once made relatable. It’s gone.

Mon Mothma plot, heavily, heavily trimmed.

Syril and Dedra… pretty good plot actually. Did not take up too much run time, scenes were punchy.

Agreed. Farm planet was a drag and didn’t really add much, most of it can be cut. Mon rave scene can be trimmed as well as endless chitchat about marriage problems which is irrelevant.
Yavin rebels were insufferable and I was hoping Cassian would put them out of their misery as he took flight.
i would also cut the pep talk he had with the imperial tech before he stole the fighter since it didn’t really add anything important. Also cut the imps showing a retro video since it was too on the nose n@zi. Yes we know the imps are space versions, but flat out copying them is just too earthy for me.

The retro video wasn’t a nazi thing. It was more like a 40s/50s American video and it was focused on tourism. It was a little bit earthy though.

Something that stood out to me as pretty cool was the kind of lounge-jazz music that played while Syril and Dedra were getting ready for the dinner with Eedy.

I’d become fascinated with the 70s/80s sci-fi cartoon/anime aesthetic in the past few years, and particularly how much its music could often be a mix of synths and at the time a contemporaneous disco/jazz trend. Droids certainly fell into this, despite having John Williams and Star Wars as source.

SO. Andor is taking the 70s retrofuturism pretty seriously, and that Syril/Dedra sequence helped me realize that I would actually love a more jazz-y OST.

Similar to that auralnauts video but leaning further into Jun Fukamachi, Shigeo Sekito, Jeff Tyzik, or even a Haircuts For Men vibe - rather than just Blade Runner or Blake’s Seven. Like, that could genuinely work for this show IMO

I’d been collecting tracks like that for this other animated WIP Star Wars project I’ve been whittling away at, but I would love to try it for Andor too. Evoking this more could go hard, and fit right in with the ways in which the show is already a radical but retro take on Star Wars.

Could even throwback to the style of titlecards in Droids and Ewoks

and of course

Brandon Roberts’ score (the parts of it that are his and not just re-used Britell) is broadly leaning more into classic Star Wars more, but that one musical moment was bold enough to get me thinking. We already talk a lot about the ways Andor feels like pre-Disney Legends, but it also feels pre-Legends, pre-Zahn. I would love to put it more in that space.

I was a little impatient with the Cassian arc at first but personally I wouldn’t cut anything. It’s such a singular work as-is. Maybe would be a cool to see an edit of each arc into a movie, with no episode title cards or credits until the end.

I agree! I feel like The Gilroys/Bissell/Willimon specifically wrote their arcs to be movies, yeah. So far this seems to me like the last arc of The Clone Wars (Victory and Death/Siege of Mandalore) which was so clearly written/directed/edited to be a single film that all you have to do is take the tops and tails off each episode and stitch em together to arrive at their intended form. You’re basically talking about fanedits where you’re making like 5 or 6 cuts total and maybe another 5 or 6 audio edits.

This would require a bit of VFX but I think making some of the Nakina 5 prisoners (even if they’re just background prisoners) be Pantorans/ Mirialans so having pink, yellow, blue coloured faces or make them Umbaran with the white eyes would at least help add a bit of alien diversity.

I think the scene itself is fine just to show how he got there (he had an insider). I would even leave, just a SMALL portion of the pep talk in there, like the “was it worth it?” line. That was okay. But yeah, it was like 2 to 4 minutes? I’ll cut it to 40 seconds. I think in a way, it also shows Cassian’s nature. He is giving her the pep talk so she does her job. But if it became clear she was threatening the operation, I think we all know what he would do.

Agreed, cringe. I could barely watch. I liked the rest of the meeting sequence otherwise.

I think almost all portrayals of “media” in Star Wars have been pretty much failures. I suspect there is a good reason Lucas DIDNT show us equivalents of TV/radio/etc. Star Wars doesnt NEED those things, even if people think they make sense in context. There isn’t one instance i can think of where an author or screenwriter has portrayed media in SW a way that isn’t cringy and unimmersive.
