So what started out as a very simple cut and paste job of just the opening title/crawl lead to down a path of editing to say.
I don’t by any means consider these to be edits but more of a tweaking an edit to fit more in line with what I want when it comes to the Star Wars movies.
I was first introduced to my first fan edit around 2018/2019 when a friend showed me Hal9000’s Cloak of Deception and I will hold my hands up I was very reluctant to watch it as at the time I wasn’t expecting the quality of work to be any good and was expecting something amateurish.
What I saw blew my mind I could not believe what I had just watched and was in a slight state of disbelief that a fan had done this and made all these improvements to something I had hoped to avoid and never have to watch again.
That one single edit brought me here to the OT and everytime I scroll through the forum I’m blown away by what the fans are doing and have seen some incredible work and some amazing changes that even seem so small or little have an impact on how the film is now seen and plays out.
Originally my “so called edits” were just title/crawl cut and paste from Hal’s main PT edits back to their original title/crawl, not really taking in or thinking about why Hal had done this to begin with. Along the way I realised that I could do a little bit more by just cutting and splicing at the right time or scene, doing this I was able to re-add the Otoh Gunga scene and the Yoda V Palpetine, so at first I was very happy and proud of my efforts I just couldn’t rest at that, I started getting into the forums more and reading people’s posts about what they did or didn’t like and some radical ideas which then took me deeper down a rabbit hole of wanting to do more.
Now as I have mentioned and don’t want to keep mentioning I do not consider these edits but more of a slight tweaking, I haven’t done anything radical or reinvented the wheel with these but just altered something so it’s more in tune with what I want. I don’t take or want any credit for any of these and have left a edits used with my cutlist so all credit goes to those people who had not just done some incredible work but also were amazing enough to share and encourage me to do so also.
With each cutlist I have also included a link to the original editors post/thread to their edit as I think it is important especially for new comers to check these out as they are what has inspired my edits.
Here is my plan so far, I will update this as I go along.

Used Original TPM Title/Crawl.
(After some back and forth and using the orignal title and crawl or Hal9000’s Cloak of Deception I have decided that now having to revisit once again to revert back to the original title and crawl for the main reason of I love Hal’s CoD edit and want to be able to have both in my collection, so going forward I will now only be using the original title and crawls. Apologies to anyone who has been following and prefers the CoD but hope you understand the reason behind the change back). -
Cut Neimoidians line “Are you brain dead”.

Made various cuts and trims of Otoh Gunga - Jar Jar being arrested, Boss Nass interaction with the Jedi, Jar Jar’s line “Count me out of dis, better off dead here than at the core, my gods what’s amesa saying”.

Cut and trimmed various parts of pod race - Cut almost all of two headed announcer/commentator, cut animal farting in JarJars face, cut Jabba the Hutt completely, moved tuskan raiders to later and some reaction shots.

Moved probe droid searching Tattooine to when Anakin is freed and leaves home with Qui-Gon.

Added deleted scene of Qui-Gon cutting down probe droid, clip provided by Phase3 but ended up just using clip from Hal9000’s CoD.

Cut/Trimmed Jedi temple scene so there is no mention of Midi-chlorians.

Trimmed Qui-Gon and Anakin’s interaction about Qui-Gon not being allowed to train him and anakin mentioning mediclorians.

Swapped scenes round - after Jar Jar returns from Otoh Gungan explaining that it’s abandoned we then cut to Neimoidians and Darth Maul interactions with Lord Sidious, then cut to Jar Jar, Queen Amidala and the Jedi finding the Gungans to then queen Amidala going over the plans with Captain Panaka, the Jedi and Boss Nas, cut Jar Jar being promoted.

Various cuts, trims and scenes moved round of battle of Naboo, mainly following Hal9000’s Cod but with some little/minor alterations - Battle droids Roger, Roger line cut, Anakin is told to stay in the ships cockpit, trimmed and moved his line of “We gotta do something R2” now just hear him off camera saying “we gotta do something” followed by some beeps from R2 as the queen is being attacked by destroyer droids, The ship he’s hiding in takes off on autopilot, cut Anakin’s lines “wooah this is intense” and “I’ll try spinning, that’s a neat trick” that’s just a few of the various trims and tweaks.

Hardware used:
My PC setup is not complex or ott but just a simple Dell T3600 that I was originally using as a home media server with a Intel Xeon cpu and a nvidia P400 gpu.
Software used:
I’m a Linux user and haven’t used Windows since Microsoft discontinued Windows 7 so I use xubuntu, which is very light weight and bloat free.

I thought I should list what I’ve used in hopes of maybe encouraging some of the new members that join to just simply ask “hey I love Hal’s RotJ but would rather see Force ghost Hayden” or like myself I love his PT edits but wanted the original title/crawl and show that you don’t need an overly powered pc even some of the basics are achievable on an old laptop.
Mistakes were made:
Sigh quite a few times and a lot of the time the same mistakes made more than a couple of times.
Originally for my TPM edit I had managed to get hold of Schorman13s HDTV capture, I love the colour grading and the roughness of it as in grain so set out from there to achieve what I did consider my own full blown edit, lol always check your source material first 😬🤦, I hadn’t checked to see if the subtitles for Watto were burned in and they weren’t which means I would need to add them manually, that’s not to much of a biggie I know how to do that but how do I then get them to match through out the rest of the PT, no problem I’ll use Hal’s edit for those scenes, first mistake, then I get to the Jedi temple scene with the council and realise I got puppet Yoda 🤦ok I’ll just use Hal’s again for this scene to and when I’m done I’ll just colour match the clips😅yeah right lol not as simple as I had thought lmao.
OK back to drawing board this time I got a friend to rip my blu ray for me and he took it literal as just the movie, no subs or audio lol.
Attempt number 3 I managed to source another copy but same mistake as the first no subs😩.
Ok, ok I’ve done it I managed to get hold of KK650 regrade🙌yeehaw
But not sooo fast lol after getting everything set all the scenes right and affects added I watched it back to realise I had just made pretty much copy of Hals🤦ffs lol.
Ok so here we go again I use both of Hal’s edits along with kk650’s regrade to get the scenes added I want, all done affects in place audio sorted and rendered out🙌.
Not sooo fast, so I have the edit a quick once viewing skipping to the adjustments to make sure all was good and all was, so to make free space I delete my files and just keep the rendered file.
What could possibly go wrong right?
Well first I should have checked the edit in full because I forgot about one scene and when I got to the No promotion for JarJar the transition seemed janky 😭.
So unfortunately learning things the hard way but sometimes that’s the best way so will try again lol.
(Sharing this info to show how much work I have put in and that it’s not all as simple as it seems).
