I’ve been pondering EXACTLY this! These are great, my friend. Thanks.
Just thought I’d start a thread for something a little different - an alternative option to storing our precious Star Wars films etc on dvd and blu ray discs and in their respective cases and box sets…
Something that’s quite easy to do, uses a lot less ink, stores the films safely, is reasonably cheap - and still have their own artwork so to differentiate between the various Star Wars releases accumulated over the years…
With the humble USB flash drive becoming ever cheaper, more reliable and with increased storage sufficient enough to fit many, many films on a single device - I thought I’d give it a go backing up my Star Wars dvds onto some USB drives - and also knocking up some covers for the USB Drive Boxes (and USB Cases too)…
^ The USB Box above cost £8.95 + delivery, from here:-
(click on the link above for more pictures - it is also available in white - and you can also get the USB Box for around £5 without the option for a photo cover).
The photo window size is 8.5cm by 8cm - I added an extra 0.5cm all around for the ‘artwork’ to fit in nicely.
It’s a decent quality box - with a magnetic seal, and sponge surrounding to house the all important USB drive.
There is also this similar USB Box for £4.60 (plus delivery), here:-
link - https://shop.photomart.co.uk/59168.html
I’ve also bought some of these bluray style USB Cases (5 cases for £8 delivered), here:-
link - http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/
^ this case is the same size as many bluray cases (14mm spine) - is a good quality build - and the company delivers to many countries around the world 😃
See below for a couple of pictures of this USB Case being used with Rogue One & Harmy DeSpecialized Trilogy inksaver covers…
and I also found these smaller bluray/dvd style USB Cases - it measures in at 100 x 95 x 18mm (25 cases for £25 delivered), here:-
link - http://www.jetmedia.co.uk/flashdrives_cases.htm
For whatever reason there doesn’t seem to be a lot of USB Boxes or USB Cases available online, and the few that are have a minimum order of 100 or so from Chinese-based websites like alibaba.com & aliexpress.com, or US-based websites like shop.sunpack.com & premiumusb.com/ etc.
Some other USB Boxes are also quite expensive as they are often used by wedding photographers - and the magic word ‘wedding’ just seems to add £££s/$$$s to anything associated with one.
If you do come across any quality or cheap USB Boxes & USB Cases please post them up in here - thank you 😃
(when I say ‘made’ I mean found on google or other places, resized them, edited them and then added some text to them using MS Paint with a few Star Wars fonts 😉 These were mainly for ideas etc - but feel free to use and improve upon…)
^ big thanks to Carbonite Solo for the The Last Jedi logo 😃
^ by Michael Cohen - https://twitter.com/Arkwulf/status/576092216935886848
Basically, any art or logo etc that you like should be able to be easily cut down to size - and then printed off as a cover for a USB Box…
A good quality USB flash drive (ie, SanDisk or Kingston) costs around £15-20 for 64gb here in the UK - approximately $18-25 in US money.
I originally posted some USB flash drive covers in the ‘Star Wars DVD Covers’ thread - and interest and questions have been steadily coming in - so thought I’d start a thread on it.
Hopefully others will post their USB Boxes, USB Cases and covers too - or just to help us remember to back up our dvd and bluray discs - just in case…
The artwork above (and also my very basic ‘inksaver’ / MS Paint-based DVD & USB covers), can be downloaded from here:-

^ updated as of 14th March, 2023. Please feel free to view, download, use, edit - and vastly improve upon any of it 😃.

I’ve ordered many from casetopia.com. You don’t have to buy in bulk.

Nice one mate - if you do the same or similar (or find some more USB Boxes/Cases) please post up some pics 😃

Not in the US mate, though in nearby Canada…

^ I think it’s a blu ray sized case - though best check with them first.
The http://www.leeds10.com/blu-ray-style-usb-case-clear-14mm-spine-with-insert-sleeve/ UK-based company I ordered from will deliver to the US (I’m not sure on price of postage though) - but you can check the amount before ordering - you don’t have to register or sign up beforehand - and they do accept paypal too if easier?
Good luck with it mate - let us know if you do find any cheaper / not in bulk etc…

I did find some smaller USB Cases on the US amazon - they are kind of cool and do the job - though could be a bit small and finicky to get some artwork or logo on, and may not fit all USB flash drives?
Anyway, they are $15.99 + delivery for 20 USB Cases, here:-

There are 4 Rogue One covers (3 with differing backs - I couldn’t find one I was happy with) - though hope you find one you like - and feel free to edit and improve upon it!
The full size covers can be downloaded from a google drive, here:-

(it should be better than downloading compressed files from the photobucket site)
I thought the official Rogue One covers were a little disappointing - in both content and quality (no deleted scenes either!)
Did like this bluray one the best though, for some strange reason…

That looks perfect! If for some reason the OUT is not announced by May 25, I’ve been thinking about getting my dad the steelbooks for Father’s day and throwing a flash drive in there with fan preservations on them. These would go a long way to making it look nicer!
Something a little different to store or backup some of our Star Wars stuff on USB Drives - as well a bit of retro nostalgia… 😃
I came across these USB Flash Drives in the form and size of the old music cassettes:-
^ https://www.amazon.co.uk/FEBNISCTE-Black-Creative-Magnetic-Memory/dp/B01HTEOF7S
There are various size USB Drives (8-64GB) and is also available in white.
Seems there are few similar options, colours & sizes on ebay - and other niche tech/audio/gadget sites too…
^ from http://www.yankodesign.com/2008/06/13/mixed-music-medium/
&
^ from https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/217032659/4gb8gb16gb-usb-mixtape-retro
I thought that it was pretty cool idea and something a bit offbeat - and so knocked around a few ideas for a tape box cover to look decent when displayed along with the usual array of Star Wars dvd/vhs/blu-ray/books & media - and came up with…
The tape cover template used…
(it was printed it on standard everyday A4 letter paper for a retro '80’s look and feel - I’ll have a go at printing on glossier card or thicker paper next time)
and a cover with the logo ‘upright’ - with a bit of space below for text/details of whatever is going on the USB drive, or favourite pic or artwork etc…
The tape cover/label was pretty easy to make - I used a very useful template size guide from this great website here:-
https://www.bandcds.co.uk/cassettes/cassette-tape-j-card-printing/
^ They will also design a tape box cover for you if you wish - along with cd wallets, digipaks, vinyl cds, other tape services and more - seems tapes are having a mini revival like vinyl has undergone in recent years…
Anyway, just an idea that thought I’d share… long live the humble music tape - and the boxes they come in!
‘Volume 2’ coming soon… 😉

Just wanted to say that this is a damn cool project. I think that these types of cases will slowly begin to become more and more relevant in the future.
This is a really cool project. Nice job!
^ cheers lads 😃
another alternative - and quite a cheap one too - is this type of ‘usb wallet’ with a clear photo sleeve on the front:-
^ from http://www.emergencyoffice.com.au/office-supplies/130025001_item.html?
or
http://eenymeeny.co.nz/cumberland-usb-drive-wallet.html
(you can likely find similar elsewhere on ebay, amazon or your local wallet/purse shops and market stalls etc)
Find and print off a Star Wars themed pic to fit the index photo sleeve - and it should look fairly decent 😃
These USB Boxes are very cheap - £1.59 each ($2.06 US) with free delivery, from China.
Although there is no photosleeve - if you order a minimum of 30 pieces they will print a logo (or text) on the front of the USB Box for you - free of charge…

I recently bought this for £4 ($5) delivered on ebay - a set of Star Wars cufflinks with it’s original flip-top triangular box.
I’m not a cufflinks kind of man - but the box it came with looked pretty decent - and has 2 stretchy bands in the box to firmly hold the cufflinks in place…
Now the box no longer has any cufflinks in… and instead houses a USB flash drive full of backed-up Star Wars films that look decent on the shelf next to the dvd cases and other usb boxes 😃
Any small box that could securely/firmly hold a USB drive in place should be good - whether it’s a box with Star Wars logo already on it - or applying a sticker or gluing some printer art to it etc…

I also ‘made’ this simple poster frame to put my Star Wars usb drives in (or on) - for safekeeping…
It’s just a standard white Ikea Ribba picture frame (26cm x 20cm) which costs £4 ($5) - with a printed piece of A4 paper slightly trimmed to fit inside frame (24cm x 18cm)…
I’m not quite happy with the finished picture - and am going to attach some small white hooks to hang the USB drives onto - but am sure you get the gist…
(I also took the glass frame out of the front so it wouldn’t have any reflections / glare for the camera - it does look better with the glass in, honest 😃)
The ‘poster’ used…
Originally I was going to something with this Star Wars Kenner/Palitoy ‘poster’ below for a USB Ribba picture frame - with a few small screws or hooks to hang the USB drives on - but I didn’t have a spare black frame…
Maybe someday soon I’ll get around to it - it’ll probably look a lot better in black than white - but either is good 😃
Obviously Ikea (and other similar stores) does all sorts of differing sizes and shapes of picture frames to fit on our shelves or wall etc - and one of the cool things is with using picture frames is that we can use any Star Wars art that we want for it 😃

Man, you’re always being innovative with these USB covers! I love it!
Those first covers have me missing my Definitive Edition laser disc box something fierce.
These are gorgeous. I’m not a Faces fan but even those are well done.

^ & ^^ - Thank you for the kind words lads - they are much appreciated 😃
I think I found the Rogue One logo here on this old article - http://www.slashfilm.com/disney-wont-promote-star-wars-rogue-one-until-after-mission-impossible-opens/
(it says it is by Michael Cohen of ‘The Rebels Podcast’ fame - https://twitter.com/arkwulf/status/576092216935886848 - so all credit to him)
There is also this similar logo for TFA - from http://popfurypodcast.com/110-star-wars-the-force-awakens/
The Faces pieces are based from these 3-in-1 dvd covers that LordStarkiller and I knocked up (and a lot of talented people before us) - http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/Star-Wars-THX-Faces-DVD-Covers-Finished/id/11481/page/3

I think this may be the way to go for me…I’m having too much trouble dealing with custom Blu-rays, for what it’s worth!
Do they not see the birds controlled in the atmosphere of the sky? none holds them up except Allah. Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. – Quran (16:79)
^ Aye, a fair bit less hassle than burning discs (and coasters!), installing and learning the various software involved, printing to discs and all that expensive ink etc… 😃
After many years of printing sci-fi and Star Wars dvd covers, discs and the like… I try to keep things simple - copy 'n paste onto a USB flash drive 😉 It’s always nice to have something a little different on the shelf too.
I came across a rare looking French VHS box set the other day, and with a little inspiration from Z6PO posting a picture of the laserdisc boxset of that set, have opted to ‘make’ another USB Flash Drive Frame (a simple cheap black Ikea Ribba-style photo frame - with a Star Wars background pic)…
^ I edited / adjusted / made up some of the lettering in MS Paint - so it’s not perfect - but should suffice…
The full size version can be found here - https://i.imgur.com/VFX7sii.png
The inspiring French laserdisc & video sets:-
with kudos to those classic 1993 ‘Widescreen Collector’s Edition’ laserdisc sets too…
a couple of pics from my new(ish) USB frames etc…
^ the text may be a little too big for the frame - though there’ll only be a small usb drive resting on the lower ledge of the frame.
