Thought I’d drop by with a few thoughts

I don’t mind the Morbius Doctors inclusion or the lore alterations, but I also understand how deeply upsetting it is for many fans who have grown up with the show facing a change on this scale. It’s the most sizemic we’ve had since the publication of Lungbarrow. Some believe this will go away like the half-human thing did, but I don’t personally feel like there’s a point to decanonising something of this size. Better to embrace a new idea than hold on so tightly to lore that at one point, was also pulled out of nowhere to keep the show interesting.

Jodie unfortunately hasn’t been ‘owning it’ as The Doctor all season and I fail to see how anyone is getting the impression she is putting in an effort. She is a woefully unprepared actress and Jo Martin’s Ruth Doctor acted the socks off of her in comparison. The Doctor had very little authority in this series and felt too much like a victim of circumstances. Ruth’s Doctor was in far more control of a room and a situation that she was.

It’s one thing to say the individual who would one day become the Doctor had previous lives. It’s a whole other to say they were going around already fully formed as the Doctor with the police box and everything long before Hartnell.

But isn’t that the point. 13 has lost Gallifrey again. Had the corpses of its dead turned into Cybermen by the ‘friend’ she spent her previous life trying to redeem. Yes she has had the wind knocked out of her sails. Ruth Doc hasn’t had that yet. I still think she is the true third Doctor.

But Three was wearing Two’s tux when he fell out. Also, she didn’t show up in Brain of Morbius.

But the wrong shoes and trousers. So presumably whatever incarnation preceded Pertwee went back to wearing a tux.

I came to this discussion after watching a series of classics (Third Doctor, Season 10, Green Death), where there is a series that is too similar to a series with spiders in season 11. It feels like Chibnell took the idea from here. Or just coincided.

In classics, there was also a clear topic of ecology (even one of the important heroes was an environmental scientist), the main antagonist of the series was a gasoline manufacturing company (led by an evil supercomputer, but this is not so important), which dumped a lot of harmful wastes, for which, under the ground, huge mutated larvae began to appear (which is even more vile than giant spiders) that infected people, and they died. And then they crawled out from under the ground and could turn into huge dragonflies, which was very dangerous.

I recall that mutated spiders at Chibnell also appeared due to hazardous waste.

I think if the storyline with a supercomputer that brainwashed everyone to help the company flourish and the personal storyline of Dr. Joe Grant’s companion were removed from this series, then we would have gotten a series similar to the one written by Chibnell. It’s only more interesting, more fun (it was from this series that a meme with the “Granny of the Sacrifice” came from), and without morality “on the forehead” about ecology (because here this topic is shown clearly, it goes through the entire series, and morality is not read to the viewer somewhere at the end of a long monologue). Although, without a storyline with a supercomputer, I think the series would not be so exciting …

And now the question. Why is the series with a similar message and complication, shot in 1973, much more interesting, more fun and less frenzied than the series shot in 2018? And at the same time does the message about ecology quite reach the viewer?

I understand that in the 1973 series there were 6 episodes of 23 minutes each, and in 2018 only 43 minutes were given (= 2 episodes of the classics).

100% agree! Personally, I would have preferred it if the Doctor was still a regular Timelord but the High Council had given him previous lives before Hartnell (and this would be before he called himself the Doctor). But given the way things are, I’d stick with my crazy idea of killing off the Doctor at Capaldi and having the Valeyard replace him as a “redeemed” figure.

Screw lightsabers, I’ll stick with regular swords. At least they won’t blow up in my face like this franchise has.

Nah, but I hear about it all the time on r/gallifrey. I haven’t been hanging out there much as of late though. Kind of offDoctor Who at the moment. The New Years’ special is coming, though, so there’s that.

It’s been announced Chris Chibnall and Jodie Whittaker will be stepping down from the show in 2022. There will a single be a six part story for S13 and three specials at some point between then and the end of 2022. The 60th is royally screwed.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Oh so no showrunner or Doctor is conducive to a good 60th? My point wasn’t that Chibnall and Whittaker would give us a good 60th, just that they’d give us any 60th at all. I hope they have showrunner and Doctor lined up for 2033, but even then it’ll be super weird having an anniversary special in their first year.
