Anyone else a fan of this series?

I’ll have to give these Dark Horse novels a re-read - it has been far too long. I remember enjoying the first, though for some reason never read the two sequels… (were they delayed for some reason?)

II • https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Crimson_Empire_II:_Council_of_Blood
III • https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_Crimson_Empire_III—Empire_Lost

Edit: ah, I refreshed my awful memory here at the Crimson Empire wiki - https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Crimson_Empire

The original comic art looked impressively enticing for all three series too…

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Part 3 was canceled twice and the project was revived. In fact it was one of the last few books in the last two years Dark Horse had the Star Wars license. At least the TPB came out in 2012 i think.

Tom Voegeli who worked on the Star Wars Radio Drama, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi also did the Crimson Empire radio drama.

As well as the Dark Forces radio dramas.

I may need to track these down.

I’ve been watching the “Episode IX: Duel Of The Fates” fan made comics and animated films lately, and I’ve really enjoyed them. So it is now time for Crimson Empire and some of the other 1990’s EU releases. If anyone else is interested in these:

Star Wars Crimson Empire Motion Comic (Full Movie) | nathan S

“In all the Empire, there are no more fearsome warriors than the Emperor’s Imperial Guard, and none is more loyal than Kir Kanos. But when Carnor Jax—the most formidable of this elite brotherhood—betrays the Emperor and orders the murder of the Guard, Kir must escape to carry out his duty to avenge his master. Devoted to the last, Kir must nonetheless ally himself with Rebel forces to help him attain his retribution in the face of the Empire’s full might brought down to destroy him. For Kir Kanos, the last royal Imperial Guard and the final threat to Jax’s rise to power, there are no alternatives—loyalty never dies.”

For me in my own head-cannon, Crimson Empire (11-13 ABY) was the finale of a “Trilogy of Sequel Trilogy” stories, following on from Zahn’s Heir To The Empire trilogy (9 ABY), and Veitchs’ Dark Empire trilogy (10-11 ABY). I enjoyed the New Jedi Order and X-Wing series, but didn’t really read much else from the EU as the other releases just didn’t hold my interest as much as these “Trilogy of Sequel Trilogy” stories did.

Nathan S also has a Star Wars animated comic website with more EU content available, that is not on YouTube (for free): https://nlstrong.wixsite.com/starwarsmotioncomic

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

A dedicated fan put together a soundtrack for Crimson Empire. Something to listen to when reading the actual comics:

Love the 90s Old Star Wars Feel of the Old Dark Horse Comics

The Crimson Empire trilogy was a letdown. Excellent first part; okay second part; pointless third part which only rehashed the “resurgent Empire” trope that had already been played out by the end of the '90s instead of realizing the trilogy’s raison d’être (the last of Palpatine’s Royal Guards seeking vengeance against Luke).

“The Anarchists are right in everything; in the negation of the existing order and in the assertion that, without Authority there could not be worse violence than that of Authority under existing conditions. They are mistaken only in thinking that anarchy can be instituted by a violent revolution… There can be only one permanent revolution — a moral one: the regeneration of the inner man. How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.”

Feel that it would have been better if it was the last stand of the empire

A sequel trilogy of trilogies of sort

The rise of the imperial remnant in the Thrawn trilogy

The height of the imperial remnant and the beginning of its decline after Palpatine’s final death

The fall of the imperial remnant after the fall of the last of Palpatine’s royal guards
