I also have the CEDs of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I got those when they originally came out.

Nice. Sometimes, I wish I'd had a CED player @ some point. Are you familiar with CED Magic? Great little website with history, repair tips, etc.

Yes, I visit that site quite often. That's what got me interested in finishing off my James Bond CED collection.

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Three options here, pick one...

1. You're still holding strong and you do not own them

2. You purchased them for yourself (if so, when did you get them in relation to their release date... right after they came out or later on?)

3. They were purchased for you as a gift

Personally, I stand at #1. Haven't even considered them. Haven't rented them or borrowed them from friends. Still happily watching my LD>DVD transfers.

I'm still #1! I pre-ordered them on Amazon.com, but I canceled the order before it was released. Nevertheless, I don't own the official DVD release. Just out of curiosity, I'll either borrow or rent them just to see the changes for myself, but I'd like to own a copy of the special features disc.

I'm still #1 -- Lucas will not see one stinkin' dollar from me for these bastard DVDs. I saw them when they first came out (via borrowed copies) and I was mortified.

I LOVE my untouched Star Wars DVD-Rs, though.

Amen, Asha and JM! I'm still #1. In fact, I'm still directing friends of mine to some of the sets available here. None of them have purchased the official set either.

The special features disc is really the only reason to own the set, and that's sad.

*Ahem*

Starwars on a format that doesn't naturally deteriorate in quality or usability after 10 years? And um..

Improved.

Rancor.

Scene.

But alas, those are about the only reasons. Darn lack of quality control. They could have saved people all these problems if they'd just had someone WATCH the DVDs before releasing them.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the severe change in Darth Chaltab's opinion of these DVDs over the past few monthes? He use to constently question are complaints, and now he agree with most of them. Not that I'm complaining. ^_^

*shrugs* Maybe you guys are getting to me. Or maybe it was the fact that all the scenes in Jabba's palace looked like I was watching Ben Hur with the over saturation of red.

Or perhaps the green falcon lightsaber just grated on my nerves. Whatever. I still don't hate them as much as Solo Vs Jones or Bossk.

I just want the originals on an officially licensed LFL DVD set. That's all. It's what I grew up with and what I know and what I prefer. 'nuff said.

Hi,

I'm new here and wanted to jump in and add my name to this list of people who own the LFL Star Wars DVD Set (and Hate It).

So I Went to ebay one night and found it for under $20 used. (Looked like new when it got here).

Like a few other people here, I got the set for the Bonus Disc. Only thing that was on my mind was to canibilize that disc for the behind the scenes and out-take footage.

The only movie I looked at all the way through was "A New Hope", and it was a night of me and my friend making very rude comments to the screen. Also I took a quick look at the ESB sceen with Vadar speaking with the Emporer and was mortified. I will not even consider exposing myself to the final sceens in RotJ after reading so much about it around this forum.

It may be returning to Ebay soon...

I am a very happy and very satisfied #1.

I don't own the DVDs and don't care about them.

I have watched them since my dad bought them for himself. Actually, I watched Star Wars and couldn't take it after that. I just watched the bonus disk and gave it back to the dad. I will borrow it again to watch them all and see the changes...just to be prepped for Episode 3.

I won't ever buy the OT on DVD unless it includes the original versions.

I've watched them, and wasn't impressed - probably spent too much time here and at mverta's site so knew what to look out for

Still want to get my hands on the Bonus Disc, though...

I had a period where I opposed the DVDs, but that passed a few weeks before they were released. I went to Best Buy the day after they came out, and after seeing the asteroid chase scene on the big widescreen TV there, complete with the 5.1 surround sound, I couldn't leave without a set (besides, it was about $10 cheaper to buy it during it's first-week sale than afterwards).

My verdict? I'm more or less okay with them, excepting the whole film preservation issue, and the really bad lightsaber fixes in ANH. They're great to watch in context with the whole saga (at least when you take the spoilers for ROTS), and I can understand the changes in light of the prequels, because it certainly adds a new element to the story. Does that excuse Lucas not admitting that the original versions exist? No, but I'm content to leave that as an issue that Lucas will have to face up to eventually for the time being. I guess that's because I have my bootleg originals and the box set, and at least have a choice in which ones I watch. If you can stand the changes (not necessarily liking them, mind you), go ahead and buy the official set for the amazing sound and picture quality; and, if you have the extra money floating around, get a set of the original versions transferred from laserdisc. That way, you'll be okay until the originals do come out (fingers crossed, because if I have kids, they're going to see the originals first, like I did, and then the entire saga in order the way Lucas currently says he wants it).

#2. Traded in 3 crappy dvds to Gamestop and got the set for $29.99 on release date. Still give my friends copies of the LDrips and anyother bootleg dvd I get my hands on. I like to think I live in a universe where Han shoots first, but the transfer and quality, added scenes be damned, is freaking GORGEOUS. So I'll admit that I do occasionally watch the official dvds every blue moon, but like the LDrips better. Plus, even though it didn't have everything we were hoping for, the bonus disk is nice and what I watch most. Now if only we could get all the deleted/altered stuff, or maybe even dailies. (I'm a sucker for raw footage. ^_^)

I just got done wathcing the ANH DVD and I must say that wasn't really all that painful. The Falcon Lightsaber Greenish tent was the thing that stood out the most.

well...it's funny 'cos everytime i buy dvds, i look at the trilogy box and there is always one of the movies on demo and it recalls me all the bad "improvements", so i go:"et merde!!!" (i'm french) and i put it back on the shelve.
specially in ROTJ ,in the ghosts scene;the only thing i can think of is:"what the hell is he doing here!!!"

LOL....I thought you only had to say "merde". What does the "et" mean?

I think "et" is "and". Could be wrong. Likely am. I'm just thinking in terms of Italian right now and the phrase "et tu Brute" which is "and you Brutus." I figure it can't be all that different from the French translation, right? Most romance languages are very similar.

"Merde" is "shit", right?
