There's no point logging in and watching someone else play the "victim" - it's almost funny, but not quite.

Anyways, I will miss you guys, and these boards were fun, but I've a bad taste in my mouth and need to move on. Good luck to all those willing to put real effort into their transfers.

This is sad to here MeBeJedi, I really wish people could just be thankful with what they are getting from these fine folks HARD WORK time and effort, I know if I wanted a different version of the transfers I would do it myself instead criticising someone elses hard work, but because of this we are losing a good persons conversation on this board. Good Luck and I look forward to the day I can see your hard work MeBeJedi.

MBJ - good luck with your transfers, m8.

IOGear PS/2/video/audio KVM switch (for controlling 2 computers with 1 keyboard/mouse/monitor/speakers.) ***Update***

Now I have a render farm.

Current specifications:

The current DVD will be 4x3. When it is complete, I will reformat it for 16x9.

Update: There will be a DVD-5 version and a DVD-9 version as well.

Update : I've sent a hard drive to Laserman, so that he can send me the ANH AVI transfer from the X0 LD player. These are raw uncompressed files from the best possible player we can get our hands on. As such, the corrections I had to make to my own transfer will no longer be necessary (at least, nowhere near to the same extent.) As much as it was good practice to clean up my transfer, it will now be deleted to make way for these newer AVIs. Once I receive the hard drive, it will be relatively easy to prep the files to fit into my existing DVD project. I'm on vacation this month, so it shouldn't be too hard to knock out ANH by February (no promises!)

After that, Laserman and I may have to slow things down a bit, as we have both spent tremendous amounts of cash, as well as wife-collateral, at this point. Bringing ESB and ROTJ to the US is going to require another large expenditure (and my wife doesn't even know about the most recent one yet), so please be patient. We want this as much as you do, but we've had to do a lot of heavy-lifting lately. You are more than welcome to bombard us with thanks and appreciation, and even monetary donations, not with PMs asking for time tables or "can I have a copy when you are done" (or why we are making our own version when others exist. ).

It's coming, and it'll happen, and you guys will be the first to know when it's ready. I promise you this.

Is this part of the XO project or is everyone doing there own version from the same source?
Author

At this point, the "X0 project" basically refers to the transfers taken by Laserman from the X0 LD player, and subsequently given to Zion, myself, and anyone else who can afford the shipping costs. Zion and I will be working on our resulting projects independantly. As such, there will be at least two potential X0 DVD's in the near future.

That is an awesome idea. I wish I had an extra hard drive to ship him. Does Laserman capture the source to each hard drive or does he already have them on his hard drive and just transfer them to yours?

Yeah, to clear things up, my X0 project is about getting the best raw capture possible from a laserdisc source. Which then becomes a base for everything else. My main purpose here has always been to help as many people as possible get the best results possible for their projects, this is just another way of achieving that end.

Then others might use it for their own projects instead of the captures they were doing themselves (unless theirs was better to start with of course).

So you may see lots of projects in the future use the X0 project as its *base* (or may not if it doesn't measure up), but the enhancements from that point on will be each person's own.

As for myself, I will be making a De-SE version of the DVD for my own pleasure at some point in the distant future, it won't be completely 'OT' by some people's standards, but will allow me to watch a really high quality version of Star Wars without cringing or groaning

"I wish I had an extra hard drive to ship him."

Just so you know, the raw capture is @ 80Gbs. This doesn't even take into account the space you will need for an IVTC'd set made from this transfer, much less any filtered versions (you don't want to apply changes to your master.)

Yeah, and due to costs at this stage I'm only pumping it out to people who have a project on the boil and want to use this as a base instead of their own capture. Unless you are seriously into editing, you don't want it - you want the resultant DVDs that someone might make out of it. This is the engine for your car, not the whole car itself

yes, it is an excellent idea. It allows for different creativity and interpretation to take place with the caps.

If anyone seeks sponsorship, PM me with plans for your project and convince me you deserve a HDD for the transfer, and I'll front the cost for you. Limit 1 per customer.

Daniel

-erm did I say 1 per customer, cause I meant the limit is 1 customer.

To all other interested parties...you would have to discuss this with Laserman first, as it would be entirely up to him. No one else has any say in this whatsoever, regardless of what they are willing to donate.

Regardless, this is not the thread for such a transaction.

Just an update. I am in the process of offloading other SW transfers onto DVD (10 DVDs for a transfer?!? Where the hell is writeable Blu-ray!), in preparation for bigger and better things (including capturing ReverendBeastly's VHS tape.)

ReverendBeastly - you didn't name yourself after the werewolf in Silver Bullet, did you?

(What did Michael Jackson say to the priest? "I saw the boy first!")

[EDIT] Oh, and I have a new NEC dual-layer burner. (But I won't have DL media until next month. )

No, in fact, I did not. <offtopic>When I was applying for an email address at mail.com, there was the offer of the minister.com email domain. I thought "Reverend Beastly" sounded cool, which I still do. Since then, though, I have actually become a reverend in both the Universal Life Church of California and the Church of the SubGenius. Yep.</offtopic>

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

mebe,

when you bought the dual layer burner, what was the decider for you? there are a lot out there and I'm considering which one to get myself. did you see any reviews that particularly steered you towards that NEC model?

Every single review I read for it was exceptional - at least 4 of 5 stars. (minus one or two - regardless, the buzz about this drive is stupendous.) I believe ADigitalMan has the same model and loves it. Something else that sealed the deal for me was finding firmware updates that hard-code the DVD-ROM bit-setting for better compatibility with older DVD players. It was a cinch to apply. (It also hard-coded the "no region" setting by turning off the internal counters.)

Mind you, I've not yet burned a DL DVD yet, but I intend to buy DL media next month, and then I'll let you know how it turns out.

MeBeJedi,

Did you receive my last mails about the spanish audio and subtitle tracks?
Author

You mean, about my own English subtitles? I did not make any for myself (though I played around with creating subtitles.), so I don't have a template to send to you.

Yes, I meant that.

Well, I can send you the spanish subs (when my friend finishes them) and you could just synchronize them to the lenght of your movie. Then you could use them as template for your own english subtitles.

About the spanish audio, a friend of mine is going to rip the audio track from the spanish laserdiscs. I can wait for it until your DVDs are mostly done and then, if he hasn't ripped it, I still can send you that .AC3 files I told you about.

I really would like a DVD release with spanish audio an subs included. Even if the audio is presented as mono to save space.
